24.01.2022 It's a pretty crazy time to be alive! Here at Leather and Wood we are doing all we can to help keep everyone safe. We have a sanitizer station set up at the doo...r for use apon entry, we have taken away all magazines, cutlery buckets and water station and only bringing out the necessities when required. We will be as napkin free as possible, if you do require a napkin we ask that you take it with you so our staff do not have to touch used napkins and bring them back into our food preparation area. We are strongly encouraging card payments (tap) and will not be accepting keepcups unfortunately. We ask that everyone be kind and considerate towards everyone around this time. We also want to stress the importance of still supporting your small local businesses while you can! They all need it (us included) now more than ever! Thanks, Amber (Leather and Wood owner) See more

11.01.2022 From the wilds of Tasmania comes a family journey wound around three generations of beekeepers. Robbie Charles reigns over the hives of Blue Hills Honey today, ...but things are easily traced back to the fascination his grandfather found with bees. Dad was the same," Robbie explains, "And along with the support of my mum of course, he started the family business back in 1955. They began keeping bees as a hobby and it just evolved into something commercial. I wasnt one for school, so I quickly learnt to love them tooits a legacy thats shaped where we are today. The latest addition to the Blue Hills Honey experience in far north west Tasmania is a boutique cafe and visitor centre. Our aim here is to share what we do with others," says Robbies wife Nicola. "Were opening our operations so people can see we are committed to producing a world class product and to provide confidence in the Tasmanian market. Furthermore, its about providing education around our industry. For the benefit of all beekeepers, we want to maintain the value of Tassie honey. What we do as an industry involves a lot of hard work and we notice that when we explain that well, the public really appreciate and understand the value of the product. With the average age of beekeepers in Tasmania being about 60, its also a way we can share our knowledge with others. We really want a bright future for Tasmanian honey and we love working collaboratively with other beekeepers. Leather & Wood cafe is causing a stir in the local community. People love calling in for a good coffee and some honey sampling, says Nicola. Were getting really positive feedback from our visitors and are using the opportunity to showcase how we harvest. The new glass front production facility gives a genuine insight into what we do to pack our honey and were very excited to be launching Australias first virtual reality beehive experience shortly. Imagine stepping inside a beehiveflying over a leatherwood forestor being a bee being tapped out of the box during a harvestthis is cutting edge and will put our guests in the middle of life from both Blue Hills Honey and the bees perspective. Its liquid gold straight from the heart of the Tarkine wilderness. Grab your puffer and come exploring over on The Tasmanian Tuxedo website - https://www.thetasmaniantuxedo.com/all/39-honey-with-heart/
