23.01.2022 ~ Some time ago, I had the pleasure of catching up with the incredibly brilliant Didj maker and all round legend Adam Henwood. Picked up some beautiful raw logs. These photos show the log in its natural state. Well folks, Ive plucked this beauty out, and Im starting the shaping process with the intention to get it completed in time for our son Jarrahs second birthday. Ill use pure Australian beeswax for a mouthpiece- straight from our hives!! So thankful to be shown the art of didj making by an incredible human- Bruce Rogers. Proud to be playing a part in Jarrahs first didj! I hope he likes his present!!
23.01.2022 ~ Perfect! These grafts have taken. Within these developing peanut shaped cells the girls are drawing, a pool of Royal Jelly houses future Italian Queen bees. Its an amazing feeling rearing your own Queens. 23.01.2022 ~ Our daughter Sage is joining me tomorrow as we head up into the Mallee to check on our bees. We’ll find a spot to brew up breakfast along the way, look over some hives then knock up lunch in the bush. We’re pretty excited!!!
22.01.2022 ~ Grafting from a beautiful Italian Queen tonight with our daughter, Sage. One of my favourite things about beekeeping- shared with one of my favourite humans on this planet Grafting is a process where the beekeeper transfers worker bee larvae from drawn brood comb into queen cups attached vertically to a cell bar. The nurse bees, encouraged by the hanging cell cup, then start to feed the larvae a secretion known as Royal Jelly in a much greater quantity than the work...er bee larvae. This resulting in the larvae morphing into a beautiful Queen Bee. Im more than happy with the genetic traits this colony has displayed over the past two seasons. 22.01.2022 ~ Beautiful Winters morning at Bluehouse Honey HQ. After a sort break from the Bees following a reasonable season, we are back into building and maintenance of all hive components. The 2019-20 season is fast approaching and we cannot wait!! With some new sites and different floral varieties on the cards, fingers crossed its a banger of a season!!

13.01.2022 ~ It’s an incredibly beautiful thing to open hives and see the resilience these amazing super organisms have and what they can endure. After a reasonably cold winter with several frosts, I was blown away with all colonies across the board. It’s absolutely fundamental to leave enough stores (nectar and pollen) for your bees to survive through the colder months. This image shows a colony that has battled through and still come out with a great surplus of last seasons honey! In ...our part of Victoria, Australia, we are almost at the beginning of our season on paper. Things look to be ramping up quickly here, and I can’t wait! Our son Jarrah is almost due for his first bee suit and sister Sage is in her second year working with bees. To all our brothers and sisters across the globe, thank you for your support. The start of 2020 saw us donating honey to assist in the treatment of burns our wildlife sustained in the bushfires of Victoria. Only a month or so later, we find ourselves contributing honey to this beautiful act of community spirit. We need to stick together in times such as these folks. 08.01.2022 ~ After a good day sculpting steel, its always nice to wind down in the bush with a rattle on the didj and a cold ale. As soon as the bottom of the stubbie is visible, its off to the workshop to build more hives!!

There is a perfect natural way to combat mosquitoes! Despite their diminutive size, microbats serve a unique purpose, consuming thousands of insects that cause damage to crops and threaten humans (notably, the treacherous mozzie)! In fact, a single microbat can consume over 1000 mosquitos in a single night thats more than I could easily swat away!
