16.01.2022 The Measure Up van will be here at the Bluehouse from 12th October to 15th October performing bone density scans. If you are over 70 and havent had a scan in the last 12 months this service is free for you (bulk billed with no gap) - you just need a referral from your GP. The scan takes about 10 minutes and the bus complies with Covid 19 policies. Why is it important to have a bone density scan? The main reason to have the test is to find and treat serious bone loss, called... osteoporosis, and prevent fractures and disability. Even if you feel healthy, having a scan is advisable because osteoporosis has no visible symptoms. It affects 1 in 2 women and 1 in 3 men. People with osteoporosis are more likely to break a bone should they fall, which can lead to ongoing health issues. If you find you are at risk, you and your doctor can take steps to protect yourself further. The scanning service is provided by MeasureUp, who will bring a mobile laboratory to our Surgery. The lab carries a DEXA, a highly-precise type of X-ray. The scan is totally painless and takes just two (2) minutes. You keep your clothes on and theres no need to fast Early detection is very important. Give us a call on 4476 1390 to make an appointment to get your referral (or make an online appointment on HotDoc). Feel free to give us a call if you have any questions.
16.01.2022 Have you had a Heart Health Check yet? Are you 45 or over (30 for ATSI patients) and don't have Cardiovascular Disease? A Cardiovascular Risk Assessment (or Healthy Heart Check) estimates the cumulative risk of multiple risk factors to predict a heart attack or stroke event in the next five years. If you are at risk of developing Cardiovascular Disease you can be reviewed annually to receive supporting referrals, lifestyle interventions and medications to prevent CVD. The 20-...minute Heart Health Checks allow GPs (with the support of practice nurses) to: - Gather information about the risk factors for cardiovascular and chronic disease, such as: blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, smoking status and lifestyle factors - Implement a formal, ongoing preventative management plan over subsequent visits or through referral pathways. Give us a call on 02 4476 1390 if you would like more information or would like to make an appointment for a Healthy Heart Check.
15.01.2022 Covid Vaccine - A special vaccine clinic will be set up at the Bluehouse Surgery with extended hours to provide the Covid Vaccine and manage any complications whilst providing the routine consultations separately. We will keep everyone up to date with the vaccine schedule and when you will be eligible. For further information please feel free to call us on 02 4476 1390. Phase 1b covers 6.1 million people including anyone over 70 years old, other healthcare workers, younger adults with an underlying condition and high-risk workers like emergency services personnel and meat processing workers. It also includes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are over 55. Phase 2a covers Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are between 18-54, along with other Australians over 50 years old and other critical high-risk workers. Phase 2b is the rest of the adult population, plus anyone from the previous phases that have been missed out. Phase 3, the final phase, will be for children but only "if recommended" given the evidence that they don't transmit the disease like adults.

04.01.2022 Give us a call or come in and see us about getting a Shingles vaccine - at no cost if you are 70-79 years old under the National Immunisation Program. Call us on 4476 1390 or book an appointment online through HotDoc. Why get immunised against shingles? Shingles (also called herpes zoster) is the disease caused when the chickenpox virus reactivates. Shingles can cause severe pain that can last for months. Vaccination is a safe and effective way to protect you from serious di...sease caused by shingles. By getting vaccinated against shingles, you can also help protect other people, especially people who are unable to be vaccinated. The more people who are vaccinated in your community, the less likely the disease will spread. When should you get immunised against shingles? Anyone over 50 years old who wants to protect themselves against shingles can talk to their doctor about getting immunised. Shingles immunisation is recommended for: - adults aged 70 years to 79 years, for free under the National Immunisation Program (NIP) - adults aged 60 to 69 years - adults 80 years and older - adults aged 50 or over who live in the same household as someone who has a weakened immune system. Do I need to pay for shingles immunisation? Vaccines covered by the NIP are free for people who are eligible (in this case patients aged 70-79 years). If you are not eligible for the free vaccine, you may need to pay for it. The cost depends on the type of vaccine, the formula and where you buy it from. If you need more information about this please call us.
