21.01.2022 BLUE LAKE VET CLINIC REMAINS OPEN AS AN ESSENTIAL SERVICE After today's news of a 6 day lockdown beginning in South Australia from midnight tonight, Veterinary Clinics have been announced as an essential service and can remain open. There will be some changes in place outlined below: The waiting room has been closed again - please wait in the car and call the clinic on arrival Please be mindful that tomorrow the temperature is predicted well above 30 degrees. Please wait ...in the car with your air conditioning to protect yourselves and your pets from heat distress. Please call the clinic when we open if you would like to reschedule your appointment Only ONE person per visit will be allowed into the clinic and MASKS are mandatory The clinic is unable to provide masks, if you do not have one we will collect your pet from the car and run the consult over the phone If you do not feel comfortable coming into the clinic we are happy to run a distance consult. Let the receptionist know on the phone and one of the nurses will collect your pet. The consult will then be run on the phone with the veterinarian. You are still able to collect food and prescription medications from the clinic. PLEASE CALL AND ORDER FOOD or MEDICATION so that it can be ready for your collection and prevent delays. We will continue to update you as soon as we hear of any changes. We are here to keep your pets happy and healthy and support you in whatever way we can. Stay Home, Stay Safe!

20.01.2022 Elf is checking a slide with the microscope. We offer different types of in house cytology which can often be done during your appointment. We do a cell examination on these slides using different methods of staining or non stained to help determine treatment or the need for further investigation. Cytology helps us to diagnose ear infections, cancerous lumps, urine issues, blood disorders skin parasites etc.

20.01.2022 Dr Caroline and Dr Georgina spent a full weekend in Adelaide at an advanced ultrasound course. Their ongoing education had enhanced their knowledge in diagnostic imaging. They were so excited to get back to work and put into practice what they had learnt.

13.01.2022 ~ Meet Sadie ~ This beautiful blue eyed rag doll presented to the clinic with ongoing vomiting and just not her usual bright and active self. Upon X-ray we could see a very radio opaque dense object in her small intestine. She was taken in to surgery later the same day where a laparotomy was performed by Dr Caroline to remove the object. Luckily Sadie has recovered well from the surgery but the object is still a mystery to us and her owners

02.01.2022 Murphy the Cocker Spaniel is a very special patient of ours - he has had a big year which started with a hospital stay for pancreatitis. The pancreas is a special organ with many functions - it produces hormones to regulate the blood sugar levels and enzymes which break down food in the small intestine. It can get upset though, more often in overweight dogs, or after a particularly fatty meal (sausages, fat off cuts, ham, bacon etc.). In some cases like Murphy this... makes the dog quite unwell and is painful and means they need to stay in hospital for a few days to get better ! Murphy’s owner has done so well with his weight and this is an appreciation post as Murphy has lost 3Kg on his new diet regime!! Well done Murph! This should ensure he doesn’t experience pancreatitis again!!! Please avoid high fat foods in dogs, but if you do think your dog is unwell give us a call, there’s a quick blood test we can do at the clinic and have a result for you in 30minutes which will tell us if the pancreas is unhappy See more
