25.01.2022 A news article came up on my facebook page today. It was about how a young woman pregnant with triplets had just tragically lost her husband in an accident. In the comment section a debate had started as to how this man had lost his life to suicide or if he had been hit by a car while walking . It's got me thinking .... Does a death by suicide make that death any less tragic. Does a death by Suicide make that man's life any less important. ... Why is it that I scrolled through a comment section filled with comments saying what sort of man does that. Why impact someone else's life. How selfish. Why is it that in 2020 we are still treating a suicide like a crime and not talking about it as a loss of life to an illness. A suicide is not someone taking their own life. A SUICIDE IS SOMEONE LOSING THEIR LIFE TO THEIR MENTAL ILLNESS. No human on the planet is programmed to inflict harm on themselves. We are not wired that way. It's why suicides happen the way they do. QUICKLY OUT OF NO WHERE. It's why we don't realise that it's going to happen. More often then not the person is on a high before their life is ended. We need to change the narrative. We need to let people know that it isn't week to speak. That mental illness is just as deadly as cancer but there is a way out. We need to have conversations with our children at all ages and age appropriately. For example a young man had taken his life in a street not too far from where I live. When my son asked me how he died my answer was simple. THE MAN'S BRAIN WAS SICK AND IT MADE HIM TAKE HIS OWN LIFE. Sometimes our brains get sick just like our tummy and if we don't ask people for help it can get worse so you need to make sure you talk to mummy. Understanding the illness starts communication. Stops seclusion and shame and maybe just maybe saves a life. If your brain is sick, please know that I am here for you. My inbox is always open and I never sleep. 24.01.2022 On thursday I blocked some time out of my day to go to the mums with hustle Christmas party. And I'm so glad that I did. While I didn't mingle with many people because well believe it or not I don't do well in big public spaces. I did complete an exercise that was set out for us. Tracey had asked us to write down 3 things we were grateful for and 3 wins we've had this year.... Now usually I don't do these sorts of things wholeheartedly but this time I did. Because this year has really been about growth for me. I want to share them with you. The 3 things I am grateful for this year are My friends and my family working for myself, and being able to make a difference. The growth of my mindset My 3 wins for this year are Getting my business through the other side of covid moving the salon from home to the new premises And the biggest of all these things was the following win. Being able to recognise that I have held onto and blamed myself for traumas i've experienced in the past. And through this I have been able to let them go, say my peace and come back so much stronger. Because those things weren't my fault, but they were lessons. Lessons on how to be resilient, to be empathetic, to show kindness and love. You'll be seeing a lot more affirmations and mindfullness things around here Soon, because I truly believe that these subtle things can help. You'll also be hearing about my stories, because I have a new goal in life. And that is to help as many of you over come the things that are holding you back as well. I felt worthless, I felt consumed, I was completely drowning and I had no idea how to find the surface again. ... I had a friend say to me, the next time you're at work. I want you to listen to the things you tell your clients when they mention something about how they're feeling. They said I bet you tell them that they're great. I bet you tell them its ok to feel the way they do. I bet you tell them they're strong. I bet you give them the same advice you give me and I really appreciate the things you say. And then they said to me You are wiser then you think, stronger then you believe, and you know the things you need to do to get yourself out of bed and it starts with the way you talk to yourself. 09.01.2022 R U Ok day or as I like to think of it World suicide Prevention day. I have a love hate relationship with this day, because I see so may people reaching out asking if their mates are ok. Yet that's when the conversation stops. R U Ok? Is more often then not responded with yeah mate I'm doing just fine. Followed by that's great remember I'm here if you need me. AND then it's radio silence. ... And we'll ask again in a few weeks and get the same response and so it continues over over and over and the cycle never stops. I can't tell you how long i've battled with my mental health for. Honestly I'd say it's been this way since I was really young child. So the thing is when you've been battling with it for that long you become really good at masking the problem. I have lost count the amount of times I've responded with yeah I'm all good when someone has asked me if I was ok. Only to be inside internally dying. I have lost count the amount of times i've felt sick to my stomach with anxiety but continued to show up anyway. I couldn't tell you how many days I've cried in secret so that I didn't have to have the conversation with someone about how I was feeling. And for what? Why do I lie about it? Because the follow up question to R U Ok Is usually but what's wrong? And the truth to that question is often I DON'T KNOW. And then the person who's started the conversation, doesn't believe or doesn't understand that you can be in a dark place and have no idea why. So the end of the conversation becomes ok, well I hope you get better soon. This needs to change. Asking a mate if they're ok doesn't magically fix the problem. This day needs to be about education, It needs to be about compassion, it needs to be about removing the stigma around mental illness. I'm not ok, doesn't always come verbally. It also looks like, sorry I can't make it to your event. Consistently late to work. An Untidy Bedroom or House Withdrawal And sometimes it looks like Smiles and Happiness. Mental Illness is difficult, it's challenging for those suffering and for those trying to help. BUT together we can make a difference. SO please reach out to a mate, ask how they're doing. BUT if you think something is up don't just stop there. And be prepared to Listen, no matter how hard it gets. Be kind to one another, care for each other. LIZ xx

He's been lucky enough to put up with me since 2007 really though I'm lucky that he's supportive and keeps our household running while I'm off chasing a dream.... The younger cuter one is our son Kyan. He came along in 2014 and I'm so glad he did. He is the loudest, most caring beautiful child that anyone will meet. They are both my driving force, and my biggest cheer leaders and I am so truly blessed to have them in my life. I want to thank them. And I want to thank you!
