04.01.2022 Due to the National flower shortage we are temporarily closed and will re assess the situation on a daily basis. I am writing this to inform my customers about how much has been changed by a virus. The impact of Covid 19, closed borders, caused disruptions to international trade and social distancing has an impact on everyone. Nothing is the same, new challenges arise everyday. I ordered flowers for Mother's Day from a few different flower wholesalers as well as some local gr...owers weeks in advance for Mother's Day. On Monday the 4th the local growers told me they could not supply. I had to monitor my website and remove flowers that I knew were not available. On Thursday the 7th before Mother's Day I picked up my orders to find that half of the flowers I had ordered were not available and most flower prices were double or triple what they would normally be. Since the "lockdown" we have mostly only been able to access locally grown flowers Nationally and minimal supply from international growers. International flowers were not arriving on time and a lot of local produce was not in good condition. I then had to attend the flower market at flemington extremely early every morning to try to source more flowers for the orders that I had already taken. The availability of flower varieties changed daily. I closed my website on friday the 8th of May, when it was clearly apparent that there was a large flower shortage. I then sourced flowers from many other places including local fruit markets and supermarkets to try to fill the orders that I had taken. Due to Covid 19, some of my friends who were going to help me had other commitments like home schooling to attend to and were no longer available, including delivery drivers. Others had other job commitments that they could not change due to reduced hours and trying to keep the minimal wage they were now grateful for. I could not fly my florist friend or other friends now out of work down from Queensland to help as borders are closed. I worked tirelessly trying the best that I could with one or two hours sleep each night to get the work done and source the flowers needed to please my customers. Some things went wrong, and I am sincerely sorry if you were affected. I accidentaly dropped my iphone into a bucket of water which sustained water damage and could not be contacted by customers. The apple store is now open but I cannot walk in and purchase another phone. I have to order online ,and pick up. I survived Mother's Day 2020 and in my 20 years of floristry have never had to navigate so many things to bring joy and happiness to so many Mother's who could not spend the day with loved ones due to Covid 19. We are all doing the best we can in these unprecedented times. Stay safe and well and I hope we bought some joy to some Mother's on Mother's Day 2020. Blue Mountains Blossoms. See more
