25.01.2022 Its often not possible for our loved ones to be with us physically, but we can carry them in our hearts and in other ways.
24.01.2022 UPDATE: For those marrying today and tomorrow (Squee! :) by the way!) I have just spoken with a staff member at the AGs Dept. Today we will refer to the current a man and a woman Monitum. Last day!... As we suspected, we cannot say the old Monitum tomorrow as it is no longer correct. Wording for the new Monitum will be sent to celebrants today. I am tempted to handwrite the change in the ceremony - days to remember for another reason, as if you didnt have enough
21.01.2022 The most wonderful inconvenience... Staying up until 2am to print ceremonies and presentation booklets for weddings over the next week (heading to MONA for a ceremony on Friday and this week is incredibly full of happy days); and waking up to hear that today the wording of the Act I have quoted may be wonderfully wrong by the end of today! #myfavouriteshred #marriageequality
20.01.2022 Thanks for sharing this, Manny. I think hilarious is not this speechs greatest selling point. When the marriage equality debate is deprived of the irrational fear surrounding it, there is just so much to celebrate. Well put, Maurice Williamson.
20.01.2022 "Dear Celebrant From 9 December 2017, marriage in Australia will be redefined as the union of 2 people to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life. The right to marry under Australian law will no longer be determined by sex or gender. It will be legal for same-sex couples to marry in Australia. The usual requirements around giving a Notice of Intended Marriage continue to apply; the NOIM must be given at least one month prior to the wedding cer...emony, unless a shortening of time has been obtained from a prescribed authority. The earliest a same sex couple can give a notice is 9 December 2017. You must comply with new marriage ceremony requirements from 9 December 2017 The amendments to the Marriage Act also change the vows and monitum that are to be stated by the couple and the authorised celebrant in marriage ceremonies on and after 9 December 2017.... Bridget Quayle Registrar of Marriage Celebrants"
19.01.2022 It had to happen.

17.01.2022 Micro weddings are surprisingly lovely.
16.01.2022 What an incredible couple of days! Yesterday, at spectacular Lincolns rock at Wentworth Falls, two lovely people married in the knowledge that the law had changed and their adopted home was a more a more inclusive and kind Australia. And today, I was surprised at the depth of emotion as I stated the brand new Monitum with the new words that according to Australian law marriage is the union of two people.... The bride broke into spontaneous applause, there was clapping and ...joyous laughter. It has really happened. Thank you to all those who worked so hard to bring this about; and to those who challenged themselves to shake off the fear. Love is nothing to be afraid of. (Yes I know I ended that sentence with a preposition, but you try it the other way... blech). See more
16.01.2022 It's Friday 15th of May, a good day for an update on NSW social restrictions in the season of Covid19. From today: <3 weddings can have up to 10 guests plus the people conducting or assisting in the conduct of the service, a photographer, a videographer, and the couple; <3 indoor funerals and memorial services can have up to 20 mourners and outdoor funerals up to 30 mourners.
16.01.2022 The winemaker behind this label is wonderful. Its a bit of a challenge to secure this beautiful sparkling wine but I cant wait to succeed. Would be on my list at the top table. Good luck!
15.01.2022 As I write ceremonies, while driving to and from rehearsals and weddings, and standing by when those incredible words are spoken...I am so grateful for the privilege of being a celebrant. Thank you!
15.01.2022 The current status of the Marriage Equality Bill - copied from a letter from the Attorney Generals Office. "Same-Sex Marriage The Marriage Amendment (Definition and Religious Freedoms) Bill 2017 (Dean Smith Bill) was passed by the Senate on 29 November 2017. The Bill will be debated in the House of Representatives from 4 November (sic - should read December) 2017. The requirements set out in the Marriage Act 1961 remain in place until such time as an act of Parliament cha...nges them. When can same-sex weddings occur in Australia? The date from which same-sex weddings could occur in Australia depends on the date the Australian law is changed to allow same-sex marriage. The current section 42 of the Act requires notice of the intended marriage to be given in writing a minimum of one month before the date of the marriage. If the definition of marriage is changed to provide for same sex marriage and no further changes are made to the marriage process, couples would be able to lodge a notice of intended marriage with an authorised celebrant from the date the new law commenced. Couples would need to wait a minimum of one month before marrying, unless they obtained a shortening of time from a prescribed authority under section 42 of the Act (for example a state Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages or a local court). The list of circumstances for authorising marriage despite late notice is contained in Schedule 1B of the Marriage Regulations 1963, and include employment related or other travel commitments, binding wedding or celebration arrangements, medical reasons and legal proceedings."
14.01.2022 #yesmeansyes Along with so many Australians, I am anxious today about the outcome of the marriage equality postal vote, to be announced at 10.30am tomorrow. A No vote will simply mean another round. A Yes vote is cause for celebration. If it comes to a fight in parliament that has nothing to do with the postal survey outcome. Yes means yes!... #equal #marriageequality
13.01.2022 Hello. Happy New Year and I am still here! My priorities have been elsewhere - and not as much on self-promotion, so apologies for offering here so little of interest lately. Since Marriage Equality was introduced, with a bumper 700 additional celebrants qualified to meet the expected demand, I decided to refocus for a year or two. So many celebrants who have been patient members of the LGBTQIA communities finally won the opportunity to perform weddings within those communit...ies, and I had no intention of robbing them of that moment by competing for business. So my profile has been low of late. I have used the time well. There have been a few changes to the law affecting celebrants, which allow us to offer related services as well as celebrancy. After two couples had to postpone their wedding because they made the garden look so lovely that the landlord decided to sell the house, I decided to explore the possibility of offering my garden (as a fallback option as part of the service). I am not there as yet but well on the way. I have been trialing recording the ceremony from my speaker (also as part of the service) and providing an edited copy with the ceremony booklet. Done! I have undertaken Picaluna Funeral training and look forward to joining their Mardi Gras float (anybody with sequin clothing that I can borrow may like to message me - thanks). Picaluna is appealing because they handle the whole process transparently and you design everything with the celebrant and director present from the outset - no time pressure, no hidden costs, and at a place that is meaningful for you. Funeral parlor services can be wonderful and perfect for some but others find the pressure of time and cost overwhelming at such a sad time. So the shingle is out, and polished for 2019 and beyond. I dont tend to take or post photos of ceremonies because it feels uncomfortable for me to do that at a ceremony. Thanks to those who send me images from time to time. Cheers to a 2019 that makes us proud to be the ape with the big brain. Oh, and if you are/know someone who is struggling with the costs of a ceremony - we can sort something out.
13.01.2022 THE MARRIAGE EQUALITY BILL JUST PASSED IN A WINK OF AN EYE!!!!!!! Time for the third reading. But the PM is congratulating Australia on a fair diverse loving and respectful decision - a great day! PM has moved that the Bill be read for a third time now.
12.01.2022 A winter wedding in the Mountains conjures images of mists and gorgeous art deco and art nouveaux venues and a lifetime of romantic anniversary getaways.
12.01.2022 We have marriage equality. Well done, Australia!
12.01.2022 Here is the link to Compassionate Communities - another of the quiet shifts that are occurring to improve the way we as a culture deal with end of life. Compassionate Communities Network aims to promote and integrate social approaches to dying, death and bereavement in the everyday life of individuals and communities.
11.01.2022 Now this looks rather fab...
09.01.2022 If you are interested, The GroundSwell Project works to create a cultural shift in the way Australians respond to grief.
09.01.2022 Its Friday 15th of May, a good day for an update on NSW social restrictions in the season of Covid19. 09.01.2022 Well, Im surrendering to Facebooks insistence that I post to my business page. Here I am, this morning after the most divine wedding of Julia and Daniel at #TheHydroMajestic. Thank you, Julia and Daniel, for including me in your beautiful love story.
09.01.2022 I am feeling with all Australians who are hurting over the Marriage Equality debate. May it soon be over and may this country soon put aside the discrimination of people on the basis of gender and identity... and race and ability and address and class, but thats another fb page ;)
07.01.2022 Picaluna funerals offer a different approach to end of life - whether sudden or expected. It is wonderful to know there is a more personal and meaningful way to deal with this part of life...Picaluna is a disrupter that will only bring benefits to the funeral industry. Movements like The GroundSwell Project and Compassionate Communities are helping our communities and society to reflect on how we approach death, grief and the celebration of life. Some cultures have retained deep and meaningful ritual, others have some way to go. Things are changing - back to the future, perhaps. https://www.facebook.com/picalunafunerals/posts/1570595399715834
07.01.2022 I pinch myself sometimes. Writing marriage ceremonies must be the most beautiful job on earth. #allyouneedisloveI pinch myself sometimes. Writing marriage ceremonies must be the most beautiful job on earth. #allyouneedislove
07.01.2022 Love this idea. Its one of the tasks that can delegated and taken on by anyone with a little time, and friends or children with hole punches. Share the love!
06.01.2022 What a wonderful wedding! I love the way couples create distinctive moments to celebrate their love and commitment. Mike & Ellie s was rich with family and heritage, in a beautiful part of NSW. And such style! Thanks for the privilege. xxx
05.01.2022 Phew...that took a bit of doing. The Marriage Equality app doesnt readily work on fb pages. But when there are fussy complications, with patience and perseverance, we can prevail! (Direct parallel with postal plebiscite intended). Instructions in comments below.
04.01.2022 One of the most enjoyable tasks while setting up my celebrancy website was choosing an image from among the many on Garys site (http://garyphayes.com/photography/galleries/falling-waters/). The one I kept returning to is After the Storm (Lower Leura Cascades). I love that it offers a moments respite from the industry of planning a ceremony. Please enjoy.
04.01.2022 The wanderer has returned - ready for 2018 in Australia. My mobile phone number has been reinstated, and it seems most of the contacts have been retrieved - wasnt expecting that. I wonder whether the photos will reappear (fingers crossed - but probably not). On the ceremony front, Im already back on deck - a wedding at #WaldaraFarm at Oberon last Saturday, and one at the #FairmontLeura this weekend. So many beautiful locations! ... This planet blows my mind. #keepperspective
03.01.2022 Ive been looking at small and intimate and affordable venues in the mountains for weddings and other ceremonies including memorials and funerals. Would love your suggestions. I hope to put together a list of suggestions for those planning for something a little different. I do love this place in Sydney - a tiny wheelbarrow caf in the St James Church courtyard - great baguettes and coffee. Its right in the heart of town, opposite Hyde Park Barracks, yet strangely calm and quiet. I visited the caf last year and spoke to the manager about whether the little caf at the front had plans for functions behind in the crypt. Sure did. And doesnt it look wonderful?:) https://jardinstjames.com.au/
01.01.2022 Highly recommend Anne. She was so patient with me changing our wedding script multiple times. She worked with me with ideas on how we could have a micro wedding... yet personalise it to make it special and memorable. Our day was so perfect. I cannot stop smiling. It will be a precious memory we hold forever
01.01.2022 Beautiful. Your ceremony is what you can imagine.
01.01.2022 Couples married overseas will ALL be recognised in Australia once the new Bill passes into law. Some of those denied the opportunity to wed in Australia may be disappointed. The opportunity exists to create your unique - cant win but winning it anyway - event. Im very happy to help if youd like a celebrant there, and would love to help you craft a unique ceremony. Im away soon until the end of January so dont worry if I am not my usual prompt self. I might be out of range or time zone. Dates are good from mid Feb so suggest your preference. I have been holding off on marketing until the law is fixed. Happy ME week
