25.01.2022 Choosing the exterior colour! The house has always seemed to me like it should be a sweet white cottage where the garden is the hero. But what white?! Did you know by the time you consider brand, shade and tone there are 150,000 white options?! Our paint person threw in the lavender for a bit of colour - sweet but not for Werona. It’s between the #whiteduck half and the #mountbuller We really want to reclad the whole house for a raft of reasons but there is still so much to ...do it seems the budget is better spent completing #littlewerona first. The boards have a few years left in them yet with their embodied energy and a fresh coat of paint will make a world of difference. 15.01.2022 I had to research this little guy because he looked and moved like a #snake but had legs (and ear holes) like a #lizard . I decided it is a #snizard Turns out it’s a She Oak Skink. 14.01.2022 Our beautiful original Metters cast iron claw foot bath it ready to be picked up and delivered to Werona after being completely re-enamelled by the terrific folk at #antiquebathssydney Sue not only identified our bath as very much worthy of restoring (made in Australia probably around the same time the home was built) but we have ended up with a quality cast iron bath for about a quarter of the price of buying one new - and with much fewer carbon miles!! When contemplating w...hat to do with our bath, I looked at the cheaper cast iron alternatives out of China and it would have been a far inferior result on many levels for the same price. Our #ecofriendly reno brings with it many pluses beyond price. You can’t replicate this character and quality while supporting another #australianbusiness We’ve made our fair share of mistakes too which is why we want to share our learnings to make #ecorenovation much easier to achieve!! 07.01.2022 Have you ever wondered what to do with your avocado pip? They don’t break down so well in compost but it always felt like a waste throwing them out! Well I discovered recently, you can take out some aggression by beating the pip into pieces the size of peas. Leave it out in the sun for a couple of days then grind into a powdery form (coffee grinder?) and put in the sun again if it needs a little more drying. The result? An amazing exfoliant for your face and body. Simply add... a little water, honey or aloe Vera gel straight from the plant!
