25.01.2022 The NEA 2018 RC was at its closest from the Earth last 9th of September 2018. At magnitude 12th, it was visible with a small telesope from the southern sky in the constellation of Capricorn at a distance of only 230,000km from Earth, closer than our Moon.

24.01.2022 So what sort of Astro photo can our observatory produce? ETA carina nebula is unrecognizable in this wide field long exposure image taken with our 12 Astrograph Can anyone see a butterfly? It should have been called the butterfly nebula ... #etacarina #nebula #cosmos #galaxy #astronomy #color #red #butterfly #nebulaphoto #astrophoto

22.01.2022 The fire has stopped. The smoke has cleared. The rain has washed all the smoke away. And now its time to rediscover the wonder of the universe from BMO and support our local community. 21.01.2022 Travelling slowly between the constelation Sagittarius and Scorpius with the back drop of Milky Way stars, Comet 2016 M1 PANSTARRS is now brightening to magnitude 9 and visible through a small telescope. Animation is a compilation of 180s picture frames taken with a 11" telescope at f2.2 over 3 hourson 21st June 2018

20.01.2022 This coming December, we will have a bright comet visible to the naked eye. Best viewed from a dark site.

18.01.2022 On the 9th of October 2019, an 8km asteroid located in the main Asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter passed close to the face on spiral galaxy M74 at a distance of 32 Million light years from Earth. In contrast, the asteroid is 120 Million kilometers from Earth. Even at such relatively close distance, the small asteroid appeared only as a point of light moving among the back ground stars.

16.01.2022 The 12 f/2 Boren-Simon Astrograph that was used to take the previous wife ford images. Cleaned up and serviced ready for more Astro imaging.

16.01.2022 An asteroid just visible to the naked eye.. brightest in over 10 years. The only main belt asteroid( orbit between Mars and Jupiter) can be seen without a telescope. Its very faint though.. so need to know where to look

16.01.2022 As Mars approaching the best opposition since 2003, so does the global planet wide dust storm. When look through a telescope on the 27th July, it will look like Martian picture on the right .

15.01.2022 What is that blob in the sky? It all started when Douglas Austen sent me these photos taken from Hay NSW at 4:41am local time on 29th March 2018 looking South East. This glow was just a few degrees above the horizon and as Douglas said: was there until sunrise but slowly fading. Originally the cloud around it seem to be expanding.... Douglas suspected a Russian satellite close but not quite. I sent the picture to the astronomical community trying to rule out any natural atmospheric phenomena. I didnt get a respond until recently when Photo by Paul Russell was shared through IceInSpace suggesting that the 2nd stage (or perhaps even 3rd?) of United Launch Alliance Delta IV Heavy rocket carrying NASAs Parker Solar Probe made me realise that the images are very similar. I sent the picture to Paul Camilleri, one of our team members to analyse the pictures who later identified it with the help of Marco Langbroek - SatTrackCam Leiden, the Netherlands. that it was a CZ3-B rocket third stage (NORAD #43247, COSPAR 2018-029C) with the payload where the upper stage at that time had not yet separated. Just under an hour earlier, on 29 March 17:56 UT, China launched two navigation satellites, Beidou 3M7 and 3M8, with a Long March (CZ) 3B rocket from Xichang space centre. 15.01.2022 Incredible widefield picture of NGC5128 or Centaurus A galaxy. As its nickname indicated, a hamburger in the sky. This massive galaxy at 12 million light years away was captured showing the curious curvy dark band believed to be the remnants of a spiral galaxy currently being devoured by a giant elliptical galaxy... a true cannibal. 13.01.2022 Amazing image taken by Hubble space telescope of an Asteroid 6478 Gault. Unlike any typical comet where the tail was created from water ice that underwent sublimation, This asteroids tail was formed from dust and bits of debris from the asteroids rubble surface. As it was being spunned-up by a process called YORP effect, the loose "dirt" flew off the surface and as it travel around the sun, it stretched to from this beautiful tail.

13.01.2022 The asteroid Vesta in its close approach shining at naked eye visibility of magnitude 5.5. Taken on the 22nd of June just a few days before it occult the small planetary nebula NGC 6445 seen in the left side of this pictures. NGC6445 blue and pink true color is apparent. Vestas red and blue fringe however, is not its true color. Shown here as the red, green blue frames are combined to create a composite color picture while Vesta moves slightly against the background stars. #vesta #stars #milkyway #galaxy #planet #color #asteroid #astronomy #solarsystem #universe #cosmos @julianoey1 @haoey_dental_

13.01.2022 Finally we can see what this distant object looks like.. a contact binary explained eloquently by @EmilyLakdawala from the the #planetarysociety The next few days more detailed images of MU69 will be streamed back from the New Horizon. http://planetary.org///mu69-baby-comet-contact-binary.html

08.01.2022 The comet 46P/ Wirtanen is now visible to the naked eye as its heading North. It will be closest to the sun on the 12th of December and closest to the Earth on the 16th of December when it will be at its brightest.

02.01.2022 Pretty Blue Mountains in winter

02.01.2022 Interesting differences between Webb and Hubble. Its always exiting to know that we could then see the universe right to the edge of the dark ages when the first stars were formed.

01.01.2022 Did anyone see this last night?

01.01.2022 One of our telescopes used for minor planet research. A 14 Schmidt Cassegrain telescope design operating at f/7 and an astronomical cold camera FLI Maxcam 3200.
