25.01.2022 Great day in Frankston!

24.01.2022 This is a sad 50 years ago today post. If we only remember one person today. It was 50 years ago today, on Sept. 18, 1970, that Jimi Hendrix left this world. H...e was only 27 years old. There are many who would agree with us that Jimi probably influenced more Rock and Roll people than anyone else. There are those who would disagree, but they would still put him in the top 5. If you can only hear one song that Jimi did today, what song would would you choose? Thank You Jimi. You opened so many doors to so many things for so many people.

24.01.2022 On Sept. 22, 1969, one of the most important albums of a generation was released. THE BAND released their 2nd LP, self titled "The Band". It is also referred to... as 'The Brown Album'. The record was a definitive moment in the bands career, featuring song including "Rag Mama Rag", "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down", "Up On Cripple Creek" and others. The best way to understand what this record meant is this: In 2009, the album was preserved into the National Recording Registry because the album was "culturally, historically, or aesthetically important, and/or informs or reflects life in the United States." Remember the first time you heard this, and was it the first time you heard The Band? And for something different, how many of you never 'got' THE BAND? Happy 51st Birthday to The Band's LP "The Band"!! What an incredible record.

24.01.2022 Credence Clearwater Revival released their 4th LP "Willy and The Poor Boys" 50 years ago today on Nov. 2, 1969. It was the last of three studio albums that the ...band released in that year. The album features the songs "Down on the Corner", from which the album got its name, and "Fortunate Son", which is a well known protest song. By the fall of 1969, Creedence Clearwater Revival were one of the hottest rock bands in the world, having scored three consecutive #2 singles and the #1 album Green River. In addition, the group had performed at the landmark Woodstock Festival in August and made several high-profile television appearances, including The Ed Sullivan Show. Bandleader and songwriter John Fogerty had assumed control of the band after several years of futility but, despite their growing success, the other members - bassist Stu Cook, drummer Doug Clifford and guitarist Tom Fogerty, John's older brother - began to chafe under Fogerty's demanding, autocratic leadership. The band's output in 1969 alone - three full-length albums - was staggering considering that they were touring nonstop as well. "That was a bit of overkill and I never did understand that," Clifford stated to Jeb Wright of Goldmine in 2013 "Fogerty told us that if we were ever off the charts, then we would be forgotten...To make it worse, it might sound funny, but we had double sided hits, and that was kind of a curse, as we were burning through material twice as fast. If we would have spread it out, then we would not have had to put out three albums in one year." The fiercely competitive Fogerty remained unapologetic, insisting to Guitar World's Harold Steinblatt in 1998, "Everyone advised me against putting out great B-sides. They'd tell me I was wasting potential hits. And I looked at them and said, 'Baloney. Look at the Beatles. Look at Elvis. It's the quickest way to show them all that good music." Besides all the infighting that happened in the band, would you agree it was a great record? Happy 51st Birthday to "Willy and The Poor Boys"!!

05.01.2022 If you were in Detroit on Halloween night in 1968 and happened to be at the Grande Ballroom, you would have been in the audience when the MC5 recorded their deb...ut LP "Kick Out The Jams". The band recorded over two nights, the 30th and the 31st what would become one of the most important albums in Rock and Roll history. The album wasn't a huge success commercially, but it went on to influence countless other bands and musicians. The album wasn't released until Feb. of 1969 when MC5 earned a place in Detroit history and sparked local controversy when retail giant Hudson's refused to stock the band's album due to profanity on the title track. The band responded with a full-page advertisement in Fifth Estate, stating: "Stick Alive with the MC5, and F*ck Hudson's!" We ( The College of Rock and Roll Knowledge) are huge supporters of the MC5's journey into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They deserve it. Guess we really can't say Happy Birthday to the album so we will say Happy 52nd Conception Day to Kick Out The Jams!! w/ Tony D'Annunzio, Craig Erickson, Wayne Kramer, LOUDER THAN LOVE-The Grande Ballroom Story
