23.01.2022 In September last year the Federal Government cancelled the Australian Children's quotas for the commercial free-to-air broadcasters saving them 0.745% of their Australian production expenditure, putting thousands of people out of work and jeoparding dozens of production companies. They could have, but chose not to impose quotas on the streaming services who pay little or no tax but take over $2.0b in annual revenue from Australia. Here's a small sample of the Australian children's productions - the likes of which we will never see again unless the Federal Government remedies their poorly considered policy decisions. Australian content quotas on the streaming video-on-demand services would create tens of thousands of jobs. Let's hope Senator Paul Fletcher realises the value of this vital industry.

12.01.2022 2021 will see some changes at Blue Rocket. After more than 20 years in the television and media business, co-founder Alicia Rackett will step away from Blue Rocket at the end of 2020. Alicia says: A series of curved balls in recent months including COVID and recent changes by the Federal Government impacting the children’s sector, have caused me to reflect on what I personally want for the future. After 20+ years as a children’s producer I think the time is right for me to ...make a change. I’m looking forward to a new direction in 2021 2020 has been a challenging year for Blue Rocket and the entire Australian children’s production sector, first with the coronavirus and then the Federal Government recklessly cancelling the Australian children’s content quotas for free-to-air broadcasters. It will however, be business as usual at Blue Rocket’s Hobart based studio, with David, Cathy, Stefan and Paul and the rest team who are currently in production on Season 3 of the award-winning "Little J & Big Cuz". Alicia Rackett’s contribution to Blue Rocket has been immense, says co-founder David Gurney. She’s been an integral part of the company, producing more than 20 television series, a feature length telemovie, and numerous large-scale interactive productions, that have employed thousands of cast and crew around Australia and throughout the world. Blue Rocket’s shows have been broadcast in over 120 countries worldwide and Alicia has been a critical part of that immense story
