22.01.2022 DIAMONDS ARE A JEWELLERS BEST FRIEND Unlike us Humans not all Diamonds were created equally. For as they were being formed deep in our earths crust some 3 billion odd years ago, they took on various characteristics that made some alot more valuable, rare & beautiful than others.... The first Diamonds ever to be commercially mined were in India some 2800 years ago & have long been a source of mystery, wonder, lust/love & power. Many ancient cultures believed that Diamonds were splinters of stars that had fallen to Earth from the heavens & held the emboidement of celestial spirits or various verisons of such magical stories & belifes. In fact the word diamond comes from the ancient Greek word " Adamas" which means unconquerable & indestructible. Here in the beautiful vast sunburnt land of Aust we are home to (in my eyes) the most amazingly rare exquisite diamonds ever to be found on this planet, we also (up untill the end of this year) are the biggest producer of diamonds in volume per year in the world. No where eles in the world will you find such a rare treasure trove of deep coloured, unmatched in intensity one of a kind diamonds locked away in an equally awe-insipring landscape of the Kimberleys North West. The diamonds mined here were first discovered in the 1980's in dry creek beds and changed the diamond industry the world over forever. Since these early days of discovery, mining & subsequent commercialization a specialized stand alone grading system was developed by the GIA in the early 1950's. This system uses the 4 C's system to classify & describe diamonds: Clarity, Colour, Cut & Carat weight. 16.01.2022 DIAMONDS ARE A JEWELLERS BEST FREIND CLARITY It was in one of the early stages in our earth, the Pre-Cambrian Period some 4.6 billion odd years ago, that studies have shown diamonds were first starting to form deep in our earths mantle.... This is the most common of the 4 known processes that created Diamonds. These magical rocks were pushed up to our earths surface & crust by deep-source powerful volcanic eruptions, forming the Kimberlite & Lamproite Diamond pipes , the most sort after areas for modern Diamond mining. During this incredibly pressurized & intensively hot process a diamonds clarity was set. Diamond clarity to me is the most important aspect when selecting a large diamond. It describes in detail the existence & visual appearance of the internal charateristics of the diamond, commonly know as inclusions & surface defects called blemishes. These inclusions/blemishes are the result of solids, liquids or gases that were trapped in the minerals ( not coal as commonly thought) as it was being formed between 4.6 billion to 542 Million years ago. The number of, size, colour, location, orientation & visibilty to the naked eye effects how a diamond clarity is graded under x10 magnification. Or the beautiful .08ct round brilliant cut pink Argyle Diamond pair. Or maybe its the fancy vivid yellow and intense pink Argyle diamonds set around the top of the pearls?... 09.01.2022 DIAMONDS ARE A JEWELLERS BEST FRIEND The 4cs CUT Diamonds, OOF you sparkling little amazing rocks you sure do Rock in my eyes. The way you catch the light & throw it back at us, truely Blow's my mortal mind.... So as i do with all things that spark such firey desire & love i investigate / discover & learn all that makes it what it truely is. Which brings me to today informative share Diamond Cuts A Diamonds cut is often mistaken for its finished shape (Cushion, Round, Oval, Pear etc etc), though it is actually how well its CUT facets interact with the light. Precise expert workmanship & artistry is required to cut a stone so its proportions, symmetry & polish can bring flooding back to our eyes the light that shines apoun it & this brillance is only possible with a natural Diamond. This workmanship ultimately reflects in the finished Diamonds value & beauty. Its also the most complex & diffucult accept of the 4cs to analysis & grade. Using brightness, fire, & scintillation the GIA grades Diamond cuts into 5 categories, Excellent, Very good, Good, Fair & Poor & trust me when i say a Diamond with low clarity or colour can still look absolutely amazing if cut to Excellency's. Iv always had a deep respect for my fellow industry people who specialise in this timeless skill that they leave behind for an eternity as a reflection of there unquie workmanship.
