25.01.2022 CORONA VIRUS (COVID-19) And The BLUE Shop We are extremely anxious and worried about the quick spread out of Corona Virus throughout Australia. The number of cases have been significantly increased over the last few days. We like to request all of our customers and everyone to stay safe and follow the government guidelines.... All of our staffs are well aware of the situation and maintaining the utmost hygiene and social distancing necessary to keep them and the customers safe. WE ARE ALSO FACING SOME DIFFICULTIES IN REGARD TO SOURCING SOME STOCKS BUT WE WILL BE OPEN DURING THIS CRISIS PERIOD TO SERVE YOU UNTIL THE MOMENT WE ARE BOUND TO TAKE ANY DECISIONS. We are closing our gazebo eating area to comply with the Government instructions. Please be seated outside the shop and wait if you see more than 3 people inside the shop. All the pre-orders will be given priority over the phone or counter orders on Good Friday and we will make sure that you get your ordered food. 24.01.2022 Not a Bikie, but a Bicycle Gang!! Jack, Owen, Tom, Cooper, Matt and Nic - They each have a bicycle and they ride them every Sunday and pass The BLUE Shop on EK on the way to the bushes in Charlestown. They stop by the shop to have a soft drink or ice cream or sometimes a Deep Fried Mars/Snicker bar. Every time they come to the shop, they remind me my childhood and unforgettable memories with my childhood friends. I like their spirit and enthusiasms and who knows any of them c...ould be the next GREG VAN AVERMAET (2016 Olympic Cycling Gold Medalist) in future. Sometimes I offer them a free drink or ice-cream or chips to encourage them to keep doing what they are doing. I wish if I could go back to their age and join them! 13.01.2022 GLUTEN CROSS CONTAMINATION We dont want to say anything about the quality and taste of our food. We think its up to you to decide. But we like to say what we do in our ability to avoid the cross contamination for our GF Foods: * We use 3 benchtop fryers which are only used for frying GF items. ... * All these 3 fryers are kept on a seperate stainless steel bench which is located in the GF corner. * The tongs we use to stir the GF items are only used for GF items and kept on a seperate stainless steel bowl while not in use. Same principle applicable for the strainer and other utensils. * We use a seperate stainless steel tray where we keep the GF chips and use a seperate stainless steel scoop to get the chips to the basket. * We make the batter in a seperate stainless steel bowl with a seperate whisk which we dont use for normal staffs even after cleaning. * When we open the packet of GF flours, we use them all...so no chance of any opened flour to be even accidentally mixed with any sort of gluten. * We use seperate steel scrubbers and rags to clean the utensils used for GF cooking. We make sure to keep the scrubbers and rags seperate in GF corners. * We use 3 sizes of seperate stainless steel bowl to measure small, medium and large chips. * All of our pre-cooked GF items are kept in a seperate GF freezer which is next to the fryer in GF corner. * Usually the same person cooks and handles the GF items. if he/she has to touch any non-GF items and/or equipment/s, must have to wash hands before get back to GF corner. * Most importantly, all of our staffs are gluten sensitivity aware. We know the AS/NZS Standards for Gluten Free Food Service Provider and follow the Coeliac Australia guidelines. But we believe we have room for improvement. If you have any suggestions or concerns, please let us know and we will try to resolve it. Coeliac Awareness Week (CAW) 2020 aims to raise awareness about coeliac disease and the need for it to be treated seriously. 07.01.2022 GLUTEN FREE FISH N CHIPS We, The Blue Shop on E K, are one of the few Fish n Chips shops in Newcastle and Hunter that provides the gluten free fish n chips with gluten free chicken salts, BBQ Sauce and Tartare sauce. We are a very little shop and some weeks we dont even sell a single serve of GF chips or fish, but we still prepare the GF staffs for the Coeliac patients and GF friendly people. Along with a seperate GF cooking area and seperate GF fryer which is only used to f...ry the GF fish n chips, we managed to keep a whole freezer which is full of GF staffs. Even if we can serve a single person in the GF community, our hard work will not be in vain. We provide the following GF items: * Chips * Potato Scallops * Sweet Potato Scallops * Pumpkin Scallops * Large Battered Fish * Grilled Fish * Fish Cocktail * Chicken Nuggets * Pluto Pups * Pineapple Fritters We usually turn the fryer on after getting an order. So we highly recommend you to place an order over the phone and give us at least 20-25 mins. For larger orders, please give us some more time to avoid any waiting time.
