25.01.2022 Shepparton looking picture perfect for the running of tonight’s cup meeting

25.01.2022 2013 Waterloo Cup - Flashback The Longwood Coursing Club would play host to the 140th edition of the Waterloo Cup. For those who reside out of Victoria, this track uses a trolley lure instead of a traditional drag lure. Reigning 2012 Champion Zambora Blueboy had changed Kennels and ownership over the 2012/2013 summer and was now in the very capable hands of Graham Whitford and owned by the Lanigan Syndicate. Its a massive task to backup and still be at the top of your game fo...r another crack at a Waterloo Cup. The blue flash was no slouch behind a trolley lure either. He had a successful career around the circle. Longwood would suit him perfectly. Once again he coursed beautifully all weekend, in fact his stats show that he was the Black Caviar on the coursing circuit , remaining undefeated when he eventually retired. Zambora Blueboy won the final course in commanding style over Sprite Lee. He started the weekend a champion and by Sunday afternoon was crowned a legend of the sport. Footnote - The last two photos are recent images of the fella in retirement. Still looks like he could line up this weekend for a run

25.01.2022 What a race, well done to Hard Style Rico and Luckie, winning the 2020 TAB Melbourne Cup

24.01.2022 Beautiful weather greeted the trainers for the running of the Group 3 - 2020 Northern Districts Cup. Congratulations to Sonny Daze, and trainer Rod Clark in taking out this years event. The son of Don't Knocka Him and Big Bang Marjen had qualified fastest in the heats but was only sent to the boxes on the third line of betting, Getting on the rail soon after the start and he was able to kick clear around the bend and win in a time of 25.23,

23.01.2022 Another great day up the straight. I love this place, outside the Metro tracks, Healesville is one of my most frequented tracks for work throughout the year, it still holds a special place as the track were I got my start in the industry. Worked there for a number of years as the track photographer. Well done to Zambora Lou, winner of the 2020 Healesville Cup and connections taking out this years event .

23.01.2022 It doesn't get any better than this. HARD STYLE RICO is the 2020 TAB Melbourne Cup champion. In what was one of the strongest fields in memory, the brindle flash jumped well from the squeeze box, crossed SIMON TOLD HELEN before the first bend and when he stretched his legs down the back straight, well, the fat lady was warming up her vocal cords. Hard Style Rico not only claimed the cup, but also added the Sandown Track record to his resume as he crossed the line, stopping th...e clock at a sizzling 28.91. Well done to Luckie and the Karabitsakos family. It was certainly a emotional win and one for the small trainers last night. The placegetters were not disgraced at all. Simon Told Helen ran a galant second and WA superstar Tommy Shelby rounded out the placings in third. In a night where over a million dollars was on offer in prize money, the other main feature of the night was the time honoured 'Bold Trease'. This years edition was taken out by Manilla Knight for trainer Mario Briganti. Just as with the Melbourne cup, this field was full of some of the best stayers in the land. Manilla Night jumped well and held on to the lead right through the race. It came down to a thrilling finish, but Manilla Night was able to hold out to a fast finishing Sir Truculent in second place and Houdini Boy in third. There were a number of other feature races conducted last night at the Lightwood Parade stadium, for full round up, check out the GRV and Sandown websites but well done to all the trainers and connections who had a winner on Cup night https://www.facebook.com/media/set/ See more

21.01.2022 Most weekends it’s fair to say you will find me working somewhere around the state of Victoria at a greyhound track. These trips generally involve staying overnight due to the time work finishes and the distance to travel home. Now last year was a shocking year for Victorian’s. Honestly if you didn’t reside in this state, the rest of Australia cannot imagine what we Victorian’s have been put through with the state spending many months in Lockdown. Regional business and towns ...which support our greyhound tracks have had major downturns in Customers and Visitors. So I’m making it a thing on my return journey on Sundays to take the long/Senic route home. A pub meal along the way, stop to purchase fuel or food in a small town. Check out the local produce at a farmers stall. It’s just a small contribution, but it can make a different to someone’s livihood. And the best part is discovering some fantastic places. The long way home today from Horsham saw a detour via Halls Gap. The Gateway to the Grampians is a great little place to explore. See more

21.01.2022 James Van de Maat gives his thoughts on the first day of the Waterloo Cup. Looks to be a beautiful day at Lang Lang

20.01.2022 This was my first ever attempt to put together a little bit of footage showcasing the Waterloo Cup Weekend. Looking back this was filmed on a little Nikon D7000. At the time it was the first DSLR to Feature HD video capability. The cameras were a little bit groundbreaking, but clunky to use compared to what we have available to use nowadays. I have fond memories of this weekend in 2011. Along with photographing and videoing all the action, I had one of my boys coursing 'Tell Em' Tom', trained by Matt height. He didn't win the main event, that honor went to 'Cruise Away Lass', but he did win one of the consolation events, The Silver Eagle Challenge. After six months off with an injury, that was awesome effort for my boy phoenix to get through 6 courses over the weekend. https://youtu.be/1fgdJ5yNVMY

20.01.2022 Fantastic night down at Sale for the running of the Group 1 Gold FM Sale Cup. Congratulations to Houdini Boy and the Greenough Kennels, taking out the race. Got to say it was fantastic to see a crowd back at the track (in a Covid safe way of course)

20.01.2022 Very happy to be able to be part of producing this clip and show the punters and wider public, the action of the final course yesterday between Making Gravy and Pure Magic. With COVID restrictions coursing has had to limit on course the amount of people to the bare essentials on track. This was one of the reasons not being able to livestream the final course as has been done in other years. It takes a bit of a crew to be able to put that together. However, I'm sure they will be back live streaming for next years cup. Also a big thankyou to Victoria Shaw for stepping in and helping out with the Video, Enjoy the action.

19.01.2022 Flashback - Melbourne Cup 2010. Around mid march in 2010 I was still working at Sale each Sunday night, selling the winning post photos to owners and trainers. I had been speaking to Des Dooley and he mentioned a certain young pup that we had both seen go in a grade 5 heat that got within half a length of the track record and was expected to go well again in the grade 5 final. Des's words were somewhat Nostradamus like in saying"this dog will win a group 1 by the end of the y...ear". I had seen 'Ari' go around that week before in the heats and my first impressions of the 39kg dog was that he should be jumping out of the gates at the gallops down the road, not squeezing into the starting boxes. But boy could he run. In only his fifth start he broke the Sale 440 track record. From there he dominated racing for the next 18 or so months. Winning the Maturity and the Topgun before turning his attention to Sandown. His style was generally a front runner, breaking the hearts of those who trailed behind him. The big son of Where's Pedro and Elgrando Gold didn't have the 2010 Melbourne Cup final all his own way. Only getting away fairly, there was plenty of bumping up the straight, but his big frame was able to hold it to the first corner where he rode a check to put him in front, from there on, it was just a matter of how far he would win the cup by. Trained by Carolyn Jones out of Rosedale, El grand senor would finish his career with the super impressive stats of 43 Starts. 35-4-1 and over half a million dollars in prize money. Naturally a stud career beckoned and its fair to say his mark on the breeding scene will be felt for generations to come. His most notable offspring would have to be Ando's Mac, who emulated his sire's achievements by winning the Melbourne Cup 6 years after El grand senor reached the peak of greyhound racing. 19.01.2022 1st round of the Waterloo Cup completed and it was the John Clay trained Blue Irish that set the time standard, stopping the clock at 16.41 when defeating Notorious Jiggs

18.01.2022 Playing with a few toys inbetween photographing the pups at the coursing. Sorry bout the sound, this was a last minute grab the video camera type thing, didn't have time to put an extenal microphone near Racecaller Victoria Shaw. Anyway, great day coursing - Blue Irish looks in fantastic form. #NCAVictoria #GRV #Coursing

15.01.2022 Flashback - Melbourne Cup 2016. A beautiful fawn dog by the name of Ando's Mac ventured south to the promised land of Victoria to have a crack at greyhound racing's greatest prize. In his first race that November of 2016 at Sandown, he was coming off some red hot form, having just won the Vic Peters Classic at Wentworth Park. His run in the Cup prelude, he started favorite from Box 7 but during the course of the race he took more hits than Mike Tyson, finishing eight lengths ...adrift of winner Allen Terminator. However, he still gained a start the following week in the heats of the cup due to having already won a group 1. In the Cup heats, he atoned for the previous weeks unlucky run. Starting from box 8, he stayed wide and out of trouble heading into the first bend. From there he stretched his legs, never really looked troubled and landed himself a spot in the worlds greatest event. Cup week, I love it. Its the excitement, the build up. I can only imagine what the owners and trainers go through. Ando's Mac was largely ignored by the punters at $13. The raging favorite Zambora Brockie had gained most of the attention. The start of the race saw Ando's Mac get away well and lead the pack into the first corner, striding out down the back, the race was on his terms, but closing in fast was Jesaulenko. It was a tight tussle nearing the post, but Ando's Mac held on by a head. ( I still say Scooter was just whispering an early congratulations and well done in Ando Mac's ear). Trained by Jason Mackay, the fawn dog wearing the number 5 would take the Melbourne Cup back to NSW that year. On a side note, there is one photo from 2016 that stands out for me as photographer. Its when Jason is presented with the cup, he raised the trophy in triumph and I happen to take only one snap. But its that perfect timing where the golden light reflected off the cup against a black sky - a Holy Grail moment. Out of the thousands upon thousands of images I have taken its one of my favorites, ever. See more

14.01.2022 Very saddened to hear the passing of Gary Brett. Gaz was one of the first people I meet on the coursing circuit many years ago, he was the slipper at various coursing meetings, always up for a chat to tell you the latest news/gossip or whatever. He had an absolute passion for the greyhound. Along with training dogs, he was currently working at the Geelong greyhound club and from memory he had in the past also been heavily involved with the Melton greyhound Club. Condolences to Col and the rest of the Brett family on your loss.

14.01.2022 Massive day out on the grass . Congratulations again to Making Gravy and also to all the dogs that competed, well done. Also a pat on the back for the huge effort that all the crew at Lang Lang and the NCA do in stageing this time honoured event Your winners are as follows:- Waterloo Cup Making Gravy ... 14.01.2022 Jumping back on the flashback theme to celebrate the World's most prestigious greyhound race - the 2020 TAB Melbourne Cup, which will run this Friday night at Sandown Park. First up in the flashbacks is the 2003 Melbourne Cup winner - BOMBASTIC SHIRAZ . I never got the chance to capture any race images of Bailey, that was a bit before I starting working at the tracks with a camera around my neck, however I was there the night he won the Topgun. That spring in 2003 the son of ...Black Shiraz and Bombastic Blonde produced something special that I believe will be a long time before we see it happen again. Winning the big three in the same year - The Top Gun, The Shoot Out and then The Melbourne Cup. Hard to believe that Bailey's on track talents would arguably run second to what was an outstanding stud career. He only had a relatively short racing career - 35 starts for 18 wins and another 11 minor placings, with stake money earnings of $355,915. His stud career was something else, producing the next generation of champions like Miata, Cindeen Shelby, Flashing Floods and Lord Ducal (who himself won the 2009 Melbourne Cup) just to name a few. I did get the chance to visit Bailey (and Darren) in 2013 to celebrate the 10 anniversary of his Melbourne Cup win. The old boy was living the life of luxury he so deserved. What I do remember from the visit apart from Bailey being a beautiful old soul was what an impressive Trophy cabinet the boy had amassed. Bombastic Shiraz would also go on to be inducted into GRV's Hall of Fame. See more

13.01.2022 Here it is, Day 1 of the 2020 Waterloo Cup

13.01.2022 With summer only just around the corner, The Meadows looked picture perfect for the running of the Group 1 - 2020 Hume Cup. Last Hurrah jumped well from box 3 and never gave his rivals a look at the lead, stopping the clock in 34.23. Congratulations to Brett and Last Hurrah on a great training effort and in the process winning their first Group 1 race. The other feature event on the card was the Group 3 - RSN Silver Bullet. Hard Style Rico exploded out of the boxes and was able to get across champion Simon Told Helen before the first bend. Charging around the home turn all eyes were on the clock with Hard Style Rico going within 1.5 lengths of the track record. Well done to Luckie and Hard Style Rico on a fantastic win.

12.01.2022 Congratulations to MAKING GRAVY and connections. Winning the 2020 NCAV Waterloo Cup

12.01.2022 Different venue, but same exciting format. Speed Star was back for 2020. From these nights there always seems to be a couple of brilliant match races. A few upsets along the way gave punters of the roughy some value for their money and we also saw some of the stars of the sport show exactly how fast they can go with a clean run. Match race of the night was Catch the Thief vs Christo Bale, with the later charging home late down the outside to win by a nose and take out the event overall with the fastest time.

11.01.2022 First time in 12 years that I have missed working at a Victorian Greyhound Awards night. COVID restrictions might be keeping us home, but that’s not going to stop me getting into the spirit of the evening while they Live stream the awards online. Make sure you smile people #VGA2020 #GRV #victoriangreyhoundawards

10.01.2022 Last post before the jolly fat man in red starts sneaking around everyone’s house’s. Wishing you all a very merry and safe Christmas and hopefully the new year brings you all some good fortune in 2021. To Greyhound Racing Victoria, I would like to thank all the crew in at North Melbourne for their fantastic and continued support. To all my other clients, thankyou for sticking with me in what has been an incredibly tough year. And to all those that follow this page and also follow my art. Thankyou so much for your continued support and many kind comments that I receive on the posts or directly. Have a great day catching up with family and friends - Cheers Clint

09.01.2022 I'm really enjoying looking back at some of my past work. While most people will look at the vision and see dogs doing doggy things. I see it different, to me its about the dogs but I'm also looking at angles, lighting, stable camera movement. I did have a passion for motion media before I stuck to stills photography. I can see from the previous years video where I improved and also what still needed fixing, a couple of things I shake my head and wonder what as I doing - an...yway enough of the fluff 2012 Waterloo Cup - flashback Trainer Rob Britton decided during the winter to course a beautiful Blue greyhound by the name of Zambora Blueboy. The son of Cosmic Rumble and Secret Powers would by the end of his coursing days become a legend of the sport. After six courses, the final came down to two hounds, Zambora Blueboy and Connemara Flame. It was the blue flash who would pull away by about two lengths and win the 2012 Waterloo Cup.. It what was a family affair, Blueboys littlermate, Zambora Lover would go onto win the first consolation event of the weekend, the Waterloo plate making it a very successful weekend of coursing for the Britton Kennels. https://youtu.be/wwshkAbUfOs

09.01.2022 Video Flashback In 2013 the coursing fraternity gathered at Longwood for the final weekend of season. The club (as do all), does a ripper job at staging coursing events. This, as it turned out would be the last year that I would compile my little videos of the Waterloo Cup. The photography aspect at this stage in my working life was becoming more demanding, I was being engaged by GRV to work at these coursing events, so in future years had to commit to shooting stills imag...es. However this little video I remember being rather proud of the finished product. To me it represents the progress I made over the years developing and refining a number of skills which I still rely on today. The other part of showing these older videos is it gives a bit of an insight of the time and shows the true spirit of coursing I had already covered the 2013 winner in an earlier post, the champion Zambora Blueboy went out on a high. Remaining undefeated during his coursing career and taking out the 140th Waterloo Cup - what a legend https://youtu.be/efx7Sg-GUrE

08.01.2022 Great night of racing in the states north for the heats of the 2021 Shepparton Cup. The final lineup for the main event is a great field, worthy of any group final. For all the Cup action, be on track or tune into GRV’s Facebook live this Saturday night

07.01.2022 Sensational night of racing at the Northcorp Boulevard venue. Two feature events on the card were over both the 725 and 525 metre distance. First up and well done to Tornado Tears and the Britton Kennels, winning the Top Gun stayers and in the process passing the 1 million dollar mark in stakes earnings. What a champion. The field in TAB Topgun was just about as good a lineup as you will see in 2020. Tommy Shelby, Golden Night and Oh Mickey were the interstate raiders coming to take on some of Victoria’s Best. First past the winning post was Shima Shine, finally celebrating his first group race victory after a number of attempts in recents months. Well done to the Dailly Kennels and connections of the dog on a great effort.

06.01.2022 The Geelong track is looking fantastic for tonight’s 2020 Geelong Gold Cup.

06.01.2022 A bit of inclement weather down at old sleepy hollow was never going to stop superstar Simon Told Helen from adding to his ever expanding trophy cabinet. Well done to connections of the champ, taking out this years Group 2 Geelong Gold Cup.

06.01.2022 1 Day to go before the 2020 NCAV Waterloo Cup Friday Flashback - At the start of the 2018 Season it had been 15 years since RAY HENNESS had considered putting a dog out of the slips. Around May that year, Ray had purchased a young son of El Grand Senor and Angel's Chorus. Prior to the purchase that black puppy had shown some good straight track form at Healesvillle, taking a hat-trick of wins. Rays intention was to keep him on the sand, but did receive some advice from t...he previous trainer that the puppy would go alright at coursing. BEAR LEFT had already made his coursing debut at Benalla, winning a maiden dog event. His first win for Ray on the grass was the BERT CLARK MEMORIAL at Longwood. He would not course again that year till the Waterloo cup, having scratched in a leadup meeting. On his way to the final of the Waterloo, Bear Left become a bit of a giant killer, defeating the likes of Cullquinn Bomber and Gotham Queen. He would enter the last course of the weekend as an underdog. The DALLAS MASSINA trained Julana was odds on favorite to take out the prestigious event having been backed in heavily from $6.50 to $2. Coming out of slips the dogs bumped each other giving Julana a slight edge to lead up to the halfway way, Bear Left stepped up another gear and ended up winning the final by around a half a length. Adding his name to the list of champions from the previous 145 years See more

05.01.2022 ONE DAY TO GO till the 2020 TAB Melbourne Cup, with that in mind we are doing one last Flashback. - Melbourne Cup 2015. What a night and what a race. In my time in greyhound racing, the 2015 edition is my favorite with one of the most thrilling finishes in Melbourne Cup history. Fernando Bale was the Brad Pitt of the racing scene, he had the looks, the style and the swagger. Then you had his kennel mate - Dyna Double One, although not related, I imagined him as that goofy exc...itable brother. The son of Barcia Bale and Crystin Bale had largely taken a back seat in the media during the early part of 2015 due to his more famous kennel-mate. It wasn't because he wasn't a good race dog, in any other year he would have been a headline act, he had made a number of group finals but was upstaged by his more famous kennel-mate. That Friday night in November 2015 was a mix of fantastic on track action, backed up by some great entertainment off it. Fernando Bale started raging favorite at $1.40, Dyna Double One was the only other contender according to punters in single figures in the betting market at around $4. Dyna double One jumped only fairly, but did get on the rail early. Fernando Bale jumped midpack as well but was able to sweep around them at the top of straight and break away to a 2-3 length lead heading down the back. At this point the crowd noise was building in anticipation of a close finish. The roar made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Dyna Double One had in previous race's shown his strength running down the leader. Into the straight and with each stride the gap was closing. Finally breaking his bridesmaid tag to his illustrious kennel-mate Double-one won the 2015 TAB Melbourne Cup by just under half a length in one of the best finishes you will ever see in this great race. It was magical night to remember for the team at the Dailly Kennels as they also took out the other main feature of the night, The Bold Trease final with Bourbski Fever. Dyna Double One would go onto further success to claim the Melbourne Cup/Australian Cup double and by the end of his racing career would become the third greyhound to pass one million dollars in stake earnings. 04.01.2022 The first Group 1 race on the Victorian Race calendar was run and won at The Meadows last night. The rains had opened up early afternoon over the track, but had cleared in time for the first race. The main feature of the night was the Feikuai Greyhounds Silver Chief Classic. Congratulations go to Lakeview Walter and the Whelan Kennels, taking out this years event in brilliant style, stopping the clock at 29.67 seconds.
