21.01.2022 One of the most precious and fragile times in a woman's life can be during early pregnancy. It is so important to feel safe, nurtured, supported and know that you are doing the best possible for your baby. Acupuncture during pregnancy is often encouraged by doctors because it has been widely researched and recognised as being a safe treatment option - especially because it doesn't require 'taking' anything. To find out more check out my newest blog post about this exact topic, and talk to your local qualified acupuncturist about it - we are more than happy to answer all of your questions.

21.01.2022 Is the wind ruffling your feathers? Before I knew anything about Chinese medicine, I did not think twice about how I felt on a windy day, much less give any regard to covering my neck with a scarf. In Chinese medicine, the exterior wind blowing is known as "the spearhead of the hundred diseases" and easily combines with other pathogenic factors, driving them into our bodies. Admittedly, when I first heard that I was like 'sure it does..., like being in the rain gives you ...a cold... '. But I now think it's completely normal and appropriate for someone to complain about the wind. And I am totally aware of not allowing the rain to invade my immune defences. I think that I probably sound a lot more like my grandma now who always wanted me to venture out with a head scarf. And I am so grateful for her care and love, even if I didn't understand it at the time. Sometimes the old wisdom takes a while to sink in. When I offer cupping to patients (not necessarily with Chinese heritage, but from many different backgrounds) they often remember their grandma or old aunty doing that for them when they were young. And then they remember that their grandma covered them up with a scarf too ( # @paulheathphotography ) See more

15.01.2022 Some of my most favourite Chinese herbs are flowers. I love to offer patients a cup of Mei Gui Hua, rosebud tea, which is just so beautiful and calming. I also absolutely rely upon chrysanthemum flowers - usually the immature buds, when I find my eyes a bit red or dry and irritated. This tea I take with goji berries too. These two are some of my must-haves at hand and there are more lesser-known ones in my dispensary too. So much more to them than just a pretty face ... Photo @heatherbarnes

07.01.2022 Life's pace is speeding up again, with Melbourne re-opening, the sun shining and inviting people out, and people are loving the chance to re-connect with each other. Then on top of that many are returning to their workplaces after many months at home and preparing for Christmas and the holiday season with all that that involves. I've noticed that for many, the balance is being tipped too far too quickly and stress, anxiety and being overly busy is on the rise. One of the things I was most grateful for during the COVID lockdown was the chance to slow down. It's so important to take the time to stop, rest, and take care of yourself. If your calendar is filling again to overflowing, will you make sure self-care is part of that too?

03.01.2022 With silly season in full swing... are you needing to balance this out with some gloriously wonderful Chinese herbs? Let me know asap to get your little packet of goodness before the new year begins.
