11.01.2022 Yay for our @therapeuticpillow contoured pillows being back in stock! These guys are great for any neck pain sufferers as they maintain the space between your shoulder and neck for maximum support. We spend a decent amount of time horizontal , so it’s worth making sure your neck position is on point

01.01.2022 Tendinopathy - Quick Facts Is it called Tendinopathy or tendinitis? Is there a difference Itis = inflammation. And in the case of tendinopathy, inflammation is not generally involved in the progression of the disease, only in the initiation (in some cases). Therefore Tendinopathy is the correct terminology .... We commonly see tendinopathies in the rotator cuff (shoulder), the lateral hip, the Achilles tendon, the wrist (especially post-pregnancy), the elbow (tennis and golfers elbow) and the knee (jumpers or runners knee) . The main risk factor for developing a tendinopathy is overuse or a change in activity. You can also have predisposing factors to tendinopathy such as poor biomechanics or strength imbalances. Systemic factors also play a role - you are more likely to develop a tendinopathy as you get older, if you are perimenopausal or menopausal, or if you have elevated cholesterol levels . Exercise is the most evidence based treatment for tendinopathy. The tendon needs to be loaded progressively with the correct exercises in order to heal. Eccentric exercises are often used - this is where we lengthen the muscle/tendon with load rather than shortening it. The prescription of exercise will be different for each patient depending on severity/pain levels. Your physiotherapist will advise you on this and on how to modify activity . Tendinopathies are frustrating!!! You often need to give it at least 12 weeks to see changes with exercise. For chronic cases shockwave therapy and injections can be used; though research is still being conducted in these areas . Questions? Send us a message or give us a call. See more
