25.01.2022 Honey Facts. #2. Honey should be stored at room temperature. The best place to store honey is a cool, dry cupboard or pantry shelf. Never, ever keep honey in the refrigerator--it will only speed up the crystallization of the honey.

24.01.2022 With your help this post has reached over 30,000 people! Please continue to share The beekeeping industry is often a forgotten industry in times of droug...ht. Bees along with every other living creature need access to water. Spring usually sees Beekeepers across Queensland migrating their hives to areas with an abundance of nectar, pollen and water which in turn maintains the health of the hives and will sometimes provide an excess honey flow that can then be extracted and sold on to major honey packers. Sadly the current drought has had a significant impact on our industry. Native forests often considered to be great resource to bee colonies because of their floral diversity and abundance of natural water source are not an option for many beekeepers. Due to the prolonged period of dry a large number of eucalyptus species simply aren’t flowering like they usually would at this time of year and because of this honey production has significantly decreased. Ultimately, this season many beekeepers will produce little to no honey as the bulk of the honey produced by the bees needs to remain with the hive to ensure the colony has access to food when needed Many commercial beekeepers across the state have been forced to travel thousands of kilometres to find forage and water for their colonies. More than 76,000 of the 108,000 hives in Queensland are commercially managed and many of our larger beekeepers are going to great lengths to ensure their bee colonies survive the current dry spell we find ourselves in. Queensland bees not only produce some of the worlds best honey, they also largely contribute to the supply of healthy food grown in Queensland. The best way you can support our Beekeepers during the drought is to continue to buy Australian honey, you simply need to check the country of origin label for 100% Aussie honey. So when you’re next at the supermarket pick up some delicious honey! Earlier today the QBA was contacted by 9 News Queensland for a story on the drought and its tightening grip on our industry. We’ll do our best to share it with you once it has gone to air. #supportaustralianbeekeepers #australianhoney #queenslandbeekeepersassoc #queenslandbees #honey #bees

24.01.2022 Shifted some hives a couple of days ago. The bees have been doing it tough for the last couple of months. Lets hope they find something in this location.

23.01.2022 Ok, i've been quiet on this page for some time now. I have been busy, bought a second hand truck some 12 months ago, then a second hand ezyloader for loading and unloading Bee hives. I had to do a fair amount of work to the truck as well as build a complete tray for the truck. During this process i hurt my hand and that put me completely out of action to do anything for two months Well it is finally now mobile, still have a few little jobs to do on it. Took it out for my first test today [i have never used a loader before] All went ok, will take a bit of getting used to. I can now move the hives on to better conditions for them at night by myself. Everyone stay safe throughout these times. PS: I have Honey for sale.

22.01.2022 Ok, so we needed the rain. Now the grass is growing like crazy and had one stand of hives fall over due to the soft ground. Stood them back up today.

19.01.2022 Did you know that you can replace sugar with Honey in your cooking. Honey is the healthier option. You may have to make adjustments to quantity of other liquids being added as Honey is a liquid. I have attached a conversion guide. Happy cooking.

16.01.2022 Had to stand a couple of hives back up today. The result of a combination of the wet soil and curious cows.

16.01.2022 Managed to make a few Nucs recently. The season to date hasn't been that good, so at this stage there will only be minimal expansion of the Apiary this season. I should be able to transfer the Nucs to full size boxes in the next few weeks. I also just transferred them from a temporary stand on to a couple of my new hive stands that i made recently and picked up yesterday after they returned from the galvanisers.

16.01.2022 Shifted a small load last night. Load up after dark, drive to the new location then unload them at daylight. The Bees might have had more sleep then me.

15.01.2022 The Bees are out and about.

15.01.2022 Moved some hives this morning. Need to get the truck and crane going to make it an easier task. Rain forecast for later in the week. That will wash any nectar out of the flowers that are in this location. Cant win.

14.01.2022 Attended the two day Queensland annual Beekeepers Conference at the Bribie Island Golf Club. A great opportunity to meet other Beekeepers and learn what’s happening in the industry.

13.01.2022 I have been working hives for the last two days. Some are quite good.

12.01.2022 Have had a big three days. Removed full supers of Honey, extracted them for just over 700kg's of Pure Raw Local Honey. Have returned the extracted supers back to there hives. A big thank you to Keith for his assistance and for the use of his extraction set up. With out it i would i would still have a couple of days work still to go.

12.01.2022 Went and checked the hives i moved yesterday. The bees were flying well. Its a pity that they forecast rain for Thursday and Friday. It will wash out the nectar that's in the Weapy Tea Tree thats out in bloom in the area.

12.01.2022 There’s so much more to learn about our honey bees than just the honey they produce and the crops they pollinate. https://www.abc.net.au//new-aus-research-finds-h/12618064

12.01.2022 At the Tocal Agricultural College in the Hunter Valley for the next couple of days to do a Queen Bee breeding course.

05.01.2022 Honey Facts. #1. Crystallized honey does not equal bad honey. If your honey is firm and has white in it, it is not an indication of spoilage, age, or impurity--it has simply crystallized. This happens when sugar is exposed to oxygen. Heat it gently and it will turn back into the golden liquid it once was.

05.01.2022 Had a big couple of days going through hives. Removed 20 boxes of 100% Pure Raw Local Honey today. Have to get them extracted as there is around anther 10 plus boxes that also has to be removed.

01.01.2022 Just a thought.
