25.01.2022 I was lucky to hear Gihan Perera speak at the PCO conference last year. In a recent email he shared, he posed the question, are you measuring for COI (Cost of Inaction)? ROI answers the question,What are the benefits of this change?, whereas COI answers the question, What is the cost of not changing? An interesting perspective when we set our minds to a future event, business or project. If we don’t change for the future - what is the cost?

24.01.2022 I have been so delighted with growing these lovely micro herbs throughout my extended time working at home (and homeschooling and all the other aspects of isolation ha!). What hobbies did you pick up throughout the past few months? Are you going to keep them going?

24.01.2022 Where do I find conference speakers? While it may surprise you, one of the biggest avenues I use to find prospective speakers for conferences is social media - especially Linked In! You can get a great sense of peoples expertise and ability through what they share online PLUS how they engage with people gives extra insight. I also explore word of mouth referrals and other more traditional avenues to put together the best programs for every event I do.

24.01.2022 Is it time for some better COVID terms & conditions? Recently I was presented with T&C’s from a venue for an event I’m planning for next year. They require me to pay 50% upfront, which before COVID was kind of understandable, but now is difficult to commit to. What might happen between now and then? What if we need to adjust the date or change the format of the event? What if I have way less attendees coming and need to reduce the total numbers?... Is it time for T&C’s to change in light of COVID-19? What do you think?

23.01.2022 Over the past few weeks, I attended a series of sessions run by @WomenwithAltitudeAustralia and presented by the wonderful Gabby Benkovich from Judge Accounting teaching all about creating a profitable business. It was great to learn from Gabby and be challenged to make changes in my business to make it more profitable. Thanks to both Women with Altitude and Judges Accounting for such great workshops! Now to roll up my sleeves and start implementing what Ive learnt

23.01.2022 We all know the age-old adage from Benjamin Franklin that if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail. In the events industry, this often feels like it rings true, with every events professional able to tell you tales of poorly planned events they’ve either attended or been involved in, and what stress and frustration it caused for everyone. But how do we plan for the unplannable? Check out my latest blog to find out

23.01.2022 Ive been doing a bootcamp with Events Air recently to better understand ONAir, their recently released virtual conferencing platform and better be able to deliver tailored virtual events for my clients. Considering going virtual or creating a hybrid event? I can help. Send me a message!

19.01.2022 When Im not busy organising professional conferences, Im in my community. The other hat I wear is Weekend Canteen Lady for my local soccer club. Before COVID hit, we would regularly serve over 800 rolls with sausages, bacon and eggs or chicken on a single Saturday. ... I love being a part of my community!

19.01.2022 Recently I did some work with Mel & Ngaire at Focus & Flourish to get clarity and direction in my business. It was so energising to collaborate at INDY MTNS once again after so long isolating. Appropriately socially distanced of course!

18.01.2022 Im still overwhelmed with the wonderful turn out for the Altitude Small Business conference last week. Thank you to everyone who was involved as a speaker, a sponsor, an expo holder or as a delegate. These events truly couldnt happen without everyone involved! In these unprecedented times, it was wonderful to be able to all get together (perhaps the last time for a little while) and network and learn from the experts about how to plan, nurture and grow our businesses. What... was your biggest takeaway from the conference? #smallbusinessbluemtns #eventherethisyear #leura #bluemountainsbusiness #altitudesmallbusinessconference2020

17.01.2022 Its only after youve stepped outside your comfort zone that you begin to change, grow, and transform. One month on and I understand this quote by Roy T Bennett even more. As someone whos literal bread and butter is facilitating events where large numbers of people gather together, the inability to do so had me initially very stressed. However being forced out of my comfort zone has been unexpectedly transformative, giving me need to upskill even further and get creativ...e about delivering professional events. How has COVID-19 unexpectedly grown you?

16.01.2022 School is officially back and therefore so am I! 16.01.2022 As our event industry continues to take hits, I cant help but reflect on lessons working in this industry has taught me. Im especially grateful for my experience and time working at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre (and a short stint at ICC Sydney). The great working environment there helped establish me, and teach me some of the great habits I rely on in event planning today! I know we as the events industry can adapt and bounce back from this crisis. For now, ...Im thankful for how what Ive learnt helps me to continue to adapt to changing circumstances and keep events alive. Ps - Can you spot me in this pic? #eventsaustralia #eventmanagement #eventindustry

15.01.2022 It's almost Christmas and I'm officially signing off for the year! It's been a big one, and I wanted to end 2020 highlighting 12 things my year involved #1 - I successfully ran the Altitude Small Business Conference for the first time, in collaboration with the wonderful ladies at Women with Altitude. #2 - Almost the day after Altitude, the events industry shut down, sending myself and many other professionals into a big unknown.... #3 - School moved to home... #4 - ...and so did work! #5 - More time at home had me growing micro herbs in my ceiling and focusing on the little joys. #6 - I planned the Australian Bushfire Building Conference as a hybrid event... #7 - ...and successfully pulled it off! Despite all the COVID challenges, this years hybrid Bushfire Building Conference may have been the best one yet, and was a huge personal and professional achievement of mine. #8 - Work at the canteen at Springwood Soccer Club changed - no copious sausages to BBQ! #9 - I attended a LOT of zoom trainings, workshops and events. #10 - Zoom networking and virtual networking drinks saw me drinking wine with colleagues and friends from the comfort of our own homes. #11 - I applied for (and got!) some funding for business events in the future, creating stronger friendships and partnerships in the process. #12 - Worked on and attended the Lithgow Bushfire Building Community Day which was a wonderful opportunity to remember and reflect on last years challenging season. Thank you to all who were a part of my year, it's been challenging but also rewarding! Wishing you a joyful and restful festive season

15.01.2022 During isolation, Ive continued to work on the Bushfire Building Conference for 2020, shifting to online meetings and new online conferencing technology. The initial potential that the event wouldnt go ahead, reminded me of the critical importance of these kinds of events. Even when normal life feels like its been paused, the conversation on important issues cant be! Living and working in this area makes this conference extra special for me and the conversations extra im...portant. What work do you do that is personally extra meaningful?

15.01.2022 As the global pandemic of COVID-19 developed around the globe, the events industry had to stop and take stock, quickly learning to pivot from the traditional delivery of events. Virtual conferences have quickly risen in popularity, as a way to engage and educate people even when they cant meet together. However, they wont ever take over the industry forever! One of the things COVID-19 has taught us is that online just cant replace the benefits of gathering together in per...son. Hybrid events, a combination of in-person and online, will definitely be here to stay following the pandemic. Would you consider adding a virtual element to your in-person event? Ps. I had so much fun trying out this green screen the other week! A great tool for professional virtual conferencing.

13.01.2022 Have you noticed how tired you are after a few Zoom meetings? This article explains how our brains have to work harder to interpret non-verbal communication signals in an online environment. While virtual events are here to stay, I believe face-to-face events are going to come back stronger than ever. Lets wait and see....

13.01.2022 As someone who works with planning and goals on a regular basis, I found this ABC article super interesting. It explores our reliance on SMART goals and suggests that perhaps for greater success, we set open goals I’m using this in my personal life with my health and fitness goals! ... 13.01.2022 Even though we’re blessed here in Australia to be able to live with quite minor restrictions, we still live in a COVID world - this reeks havoc on any type of planning! When it comes to events, I’m trying to think of contingencies for all types of restrictions (or potential restrictions), not just those in NSW. What happens if VIC has an outbreak and our speaker gets stuck? Will people travel interstate like they used to or will they want to attend online? What if numbers fo...r events suddenly get smaller? There’s so much to think about when it comes to conferencing in a COVID world, but luckily I’m well-practiced at thinking through every possibility. If you need help planning or running your event - send me a message!

11.01.2022 Want less stress for your next event? Plan, plan and plan There are never enough hours in the day, and something always goes wrong but having a solid plan (with contingencies for the possible wrong things) will save you a lot of stress and uncertainty. ... A plan with a good timeline helps you stay on track and deliver an amazing event. When I work on events for my clients its not just my expert planning experience that helps relieve stress, its also that Im passionate about what I do and this rubs off! If youre looking for an even more stress-free event I can help! Message me for help with event, conference and destination management.

11.01.2022 I usually dont have time to join into the sessions I plan at conferences, but I made sure I was available to attend Kylie Chowns session on LinkedIn at the Altitude Small Business Conference. I definitely wasnt disappointed with the session and learnt many great tips for improving my profile, reaching people and increasing my connections. Thanks Kylie! What do you find most difficult about connecting with your clients or peers online?

06.01.2022 Lets talk event etiquette INTRODUCTIONS When it comes to events, introductions are paramount. You should always introduce or address important guests.... When it comes to Keynote speakers or other presenters, an introduction helps to build excitement in your audience, give your speaker credibility and raise the profile of your event. Depending on the event, you as the organiser may be required to brief to MC and other times they do the research work themselves. Clarifying this early helps you to stay on top of things!

06.01.2022 Caddens Corner opens tomorrow! I’ve been working with Zan Davies from Elomeno PR to help coordinate the launch of the new Caddens Corner shopping centre in Caddens Hill. It’s been interesting to do something different and utilise my connections with local vendors and various businesses.

05.01.2022 As COVID-19 sweeps the globe, were all making adjustments. As an event planner, Ive been learning about my capacity to pivot and provide events in an online format. While some things can simply be postponed, other events must be provided in some format. Currently, Im in the thick of organising the Australian Bushfire Building Conference, an important annual event that helps a variety of industries prepare and improve our response to the bushfire season. Were working to p...rovide this event online later this year, so that the important discussions we have can still take place. For the events industry this time is a formative one, were all learning how to still provide quality information, networking and thought leadership to our audiences. #eventplanning #eventsindustry #pivotnotpanic #bushfirebuilding #conferenceplanner #pco

03.01.2022 Recently I went into a meeting feeling a little low on confidence, and ended up letting the other people person take over. 03.01.2022 As a part of last weeks PCO Conference I contributed a poster presentation! I submitted a presentation talking about my hybrid event experience and how you can mitigate the risks of technology. We all know that we, Event Managers are control freaks. ... However, there is one area you’ll never be able to fully control with hybrid events and that’s the virtual attendees online environment. Their browser type, the specific browser privacy settings, ad blockers and other add-ons that may or may not conflict with your technology delivering the online concept. What aspects of a hybrid event you lost control over and just had to let go? #PCOA20 #hybridevents #hybridconference #technology
