24.01.2022 Good Afternoon Members, We've been given some good news this week from the Victorian State Government regarding the easing of lockdown restrictions. We know many of you are keen for our events to start up again, and they will as soon as they possibly can, though we are sure there will be limitations we need to adhere to. As we have members throughout metro Melbourne and regional Victoria, at the moment we are awaiting confirmation of easing from November 8th, as well as Dogs ...Victoria's Covidsafe Plan. We can only confirm at this stage that there will be no club events prior to November 14th. So please be patient with us as we will make announcements as soon as we are certain of what we will be able to do and when. In the meantime, please make sure your Membership is up to date for the 2020-2021 financial year so you are able to participate. You can email our Secretary via [email protected] . Please understand that as we may be limited on group numbers we will not be able to accommodate non-members, so being financial is essential. We will make further announcements once we have more information. Well done Victoria! You've done a great job. Let's keep it up! Best Regards, Sheridan BMDCV President

24.01.2022 Happy 90th Anniversary! Today Dogs Victoria celebrates 90 years of service to the canine community. We would like to thank our members for supporting us and helping us create a community that we are very proud of. #DVhistory #celebration

Please email submissions to Shane Millard at: [email protected]

23.01.2022 Please see the below update for the Dog Lovers Show which was originally scheduled for the first weekend of May. The DLS has made the important and responsible decision to postpone the show by approximately 7 months in light of recent government restrictions and advice. The BMDCV is very pleased with this decision and applaud the DLS for making the call on this. We hope as a club we are able to attend in November, but this is subject to the ongoing worldwide Covid-19 issue and other factors such as warmer weather at that particular time of year. The BMDCV does have some small events scheduled over the coming months and we will advise in due course if each event will be going ahead. At this stage our walk for next weekend will proceed as scheduled.

23.01.2022 Some top tips to avoid getting scammed!

22.01.2022 MEMBER UPDATE It has been a difficult year for all of us and that includes the normal day to day running of a breed club where a lot of work happens behind the scenes. Updates below regarding club events:... * AGM: Consumer Affairs have kindly granted us an extension to hold this. As soon as we are able a minimum 21 days notice will be advised to all current financial members for this. Date and venue TBA. * ALL MEMBER EVENTS - incl. Members Walks, Xmas Party, Shows, etc. Any events we run are subject to Dogs Victoria and our Insurance Plan. We are currently awaiting the state government's approval of Dogs Victoria's CovidSafe Plan. Once this is approved and advised to Breed Clubs we can look at organising club events (which may be limited in numbers). Please also keep in mind that as we approach the warmer months these events will also be subject to weather conditions. We will of course endeavour to do the best we can once we have the correct information and go ahead to do so. Thanks for your patience! We look forward to catching up with you all soon. - BMDCV Committee

19.01.2022 A good time to purchase the pics you have been meaning to from our previous specialties! Then we can all reminisce together on June 7th - which would have been our 20th anniverary show.

19.01.2022 If any of our members are affected by the East Gippsland fires (or any others that may come to pass) please feel free to contact any member of committee or via this page as we may be able to assist, for example: with temporary accommodation for your Bernese if required. Our thoughts are with everyone who may be affected by the extreme weather conditions and we hope this fire season is over quickly and safely. Thanks to all workers and volunteers who work so tirelessly in these conditions.

19.01.2022 A good resource. Shared from Dogs Tasmania Fb page. ***Identifying Registered Breeders***... Due to the increase in the number of people falsely claiming to be ANKC Ltd Registered Breeders, we have added a new facility to our web site, to check if a breeder is a registered ANKC breeder, inquirers simply enter the breeder's prefix or membership number and tick search. Scroll down & youll see the Registered Breeder Check - you can enter either a Prefix or Membership number. http://ankc.org.au/Home

18.01.2022 Wonderful event. Everyone welcome! Our Christmas Photobooth will be back. See you then!

17.01.2022 Just confirming to all our members that per the State Government of Victoria, as of 11:59pm Wednesday 8th July, there will be no club activities for at least 6 weeks until otherwise advised. We will keep an eye on how everything progresses within Victoria and keep you informed. Please stay safe and follow all directives. We wish you and your families all the best. Thank you for your understanding at this time.... - BMDCV Committee

17.01.2022 FINDING A REPUTABLE BREEDER If you are looking to add a puppy to your family, you want to ensure that it has been raised in a loving and knowledgeable environme...nt by a breeder who cares about the puppy’s long-term welfare and not just a quick sale. Dogs Victoria suggests that you look for: A Breeder who is knowledgeable someone who has dedicated hours to learning about their breed and who is happy to share their knowledge with you. A Breeder who wants to make sure that you can provide the right home for one of their puppies and that you understand the exercise, training, grooming and care needs of both the puppy and adult dog. A Breeder who is aware of the health issues affecting their breed and who undertakes all necessary health testing and screening prior to selecting their breeding stock A Breeder who provides ongoing support and advice A Breeder who works hard to make sure that all of the puppies in their litters have the best chances of success in life by providing them with learning opportunities and positive experiences from the time they are born. Choosing the right breeder can influence your entire experience of owning a dog. Dogs Victoria Registered Breeders agree to abide by Dogs Victoria’s Code of Ethics, Rules and Regulations as well as meeting or exceeding all other requirements under Victorian State Legislation.

16.01.2022 Reminder for our Veterans and New Champs! Closing this Friday 15th May 2020.

16.01.2022 IMPORTANT NOTICE - MEMBER EVENT CANCELLATIONS Dear Members,... I hope you are all well and coping with our current, stressful times. With the Covid-19 pandemic gripping the nation, a leisurely stroll with our beloved Bernese is exactly what is needed - however per the information below sent from our Governing Body, Dogs Victoria, we have been advised to cancel all upcoming events of large gatherings until we receive further advice in April. Sadly our walk scheduled for this coming Saturday in Mt Evelyn is definitely cancelled, however we will hopefully reschedule this for a later date as it is a lovely venue and walk. We apologise for the late notice. As many would have seen on our Facebook page the Dog Lovers Show in May has been moved to November. Our events for April onwards will all be advised either by email and/or social media if they are going ahead or changed. We encourage you in the meantime to interact on the BMDCV Members Forum - show us what you've been getting up to with your gorgeous dogs! Go for a walk somewhere you feel safe in a large, open space and post pics of your adventures. In stressful times like these we should reach out where we can and we encourage you to do so with each other or the members of the committee. Please follow all government and health department directives, but make sure you are practicing self care and taking time for yourself, your loved ones, and your pets. Hopefully with the current measures being put in place we can all work together as a nation to stop the spread of this disease and get back to our normal routines as soon as possible. My details are below if you would like to reach out to me, and all other committee members contact details were listed in our last newsletter. Thanks Lynney for doing such a great job by the way! Hopefully we will all see each other again very soon. Best Regards, Sheridan Holmes BMDCV President 0419 113 229 [email protected]

03.01.2022 Whatever code you follow... Whichever team you support... Or maybe you can't decide? We hope you're having a great weekend watching your game of choice like our club members dogs are below! ... **Most of the dogs pictured are Bernese, but there are two other breeds! Do you know what breeds they are?** #BMDCV #bernesemountaindog #BerneseMountainDogClubOfVictoria

03.01.2022 ** Puppy Enquiries and Covid-19 ** Hello Bernese fanciers!... We are certainly in unprecedented times at the moment, and hope you are all safe and well. Like many other dog and cat breeders and animal rescue organisations, Bernese breeders are currently finding themselves quite overwhelmed with puppy enquiries at the moment. Whilst we certainly appreciate your interest in the breed, we hope you understand that the wait for a thoughtfully bred, purebred pup may be longer than normal in the current circumstances. It is impossible for us to meet new potential buyers at the moment. We cannot have guests in our homes, we cannot meet at a dog show or sporting event, and all Dogs Victoria and BMDCV activities are cancelled in line with government and Dogs Victoria instructions. Some breeders may have put breeding plans on hold completely. Some breeders had their eye on using a stud dog interstate, or even overseas. Some breeders are concerned about vet availability and opportunities to socialise pending puppies. After all, we all try to do our best by the breed and for our own breeding programs, which ultimately you, the buyers, benefit from. With that in mind, we hope you understand if the breeders on our Breeders List may not get back to you for some time, or at all, with enquiries flooding our phones and inboxes all day at the moment. I would encourage you to follow up any enquiries in approximately 6 months or so. Normally we would advise the wait for a Bernese puppy may be 6-12 months or more once you are in regular contact with a breeder, but at the moment that timeframe could be indefinitely extended, depending on how our country, and the world, deals with the pandemic it currently faces. We do understand that many of you, like many of us, may be able to work from home now, and believe you have the time to devote to a new family member, but a Bernese puppy may sadly just not be available at this time. Many of our breeders are also essential workers in areas such as health, and are already putting themselves at risk every day. We encourage you to use this time of social distancing to research the breed/s you are interested in, and when we're able to talk to you, you should have questions ready about what you would like to know about the breed and our plans, but please know that we are as heartbroken as you are that our puppy dreams may not come true for quite some time. Please take care this Easter. We wish you all the best, and safety and happiness for you and your families. Sheridan Holmes BMDCV President

02.01.2022 ATTENTION BMDCV MEMBERS, VETERANS PARADE ATTENDEES, BERNESE EXHIBITORS, AND FANCIERS Our Specialty Championship Show scheduled for Sunday 7th June has now been postponed due to current government advice and travel bans. We still hope to hold the show this calender year and will keep you all updated as information is received. The BMDCV Co...mmittee sincerely apologises for any inconvenience, but we are sure you all understand this decision in the current climate, and will be back to support us once this is rescheduled. Any queries can be directed to [email protected] . Thanks for your understanding. * PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHARE *
