19.01.2022 While a lot of KAMS and KRS staff are working from home, there is still staff like Aboriginal Health Workers, Remote Area Nurses, Doctors, Receptionists and Cle...aners working on the front line to keep remote clinics and renal dialysis centres open. Today we want to thank you for the exceptional commitment you are all showing at this difficult time. Many of you are working extended rosters, longer hours and away from loved ones. 15.01.2022 While we worry about Coronavirus, dont forget about the rest of your health....An important message from KAMS and BRAMS:

13.01.2022 MEET DAISY HOWARD: Daisy Howard is a proud Jaru elder from Halls Creek who currently lives in Broome surrounded by many of her children, grandchildren and grea...t grandchildren. Daisy is apart of the Stolen Generation and was taken from her mother at the age of 2. This has enforced an unimaginable amount of belief onto her that family is the most precious thing you can have and watching her children and grandchildren go out and make families of their own keeps her grounded. Growing up and starting her own family Daisy had no awareness of suicide or mental illness, they never crossed her mind as no one around her talked about it. This changed when she unexpectedly experienced losing her son and grandchild through suicide. Being more conscious of the importance of mental Health and the impact it can have on a close relative reinforced the idea of becoming a member for the Wirrya Lyiarn Committee. Daisy wants people to be provided with the courage to be able to talk about what theyre going through and hopes that people become more vigilant to the impacts of what poor mental health can do to the people and their families in the Kimberley. Daisy has many hobbies which include spending her time attending church and volunteering at the Sisters of St John of God Heritage Centre, Daisy will happily give up her time to pass on her personal stories to her family and loves spending time in her garden and watching sports. Daisy has always encouraged her family to be kind to people and that filling your day with things you love doing can have a positive impact on your mental health! See more

10.01.2022 Ten Mulan women have come together to write and record music, in the rare East Walmajarri language, alongside Kankawa Nagarra ‘Olive’ Knight. KAMS Social and Emotional Wellbeing Officer, Shirley Brown, alongside the Kimberley Aboriginal Suicide Prevention Team and Health Officer and musician, Tonchi, engaged legendary musician, songwriter, and Elder, Kankawa Nagarra ‘Olive’ Knight, to lead workshops and concerts with local women. These kinds of workshops need to keep going for the future of our desert women, to break the cycle, and empower our young women to build strong communities. - Shirley Brown

09.01.2022 If you have returned to the Kimberley from Perth since (and including) the 25th of January, KAMS recommends you follow the lock down restrictions that are curre...ntly in place for the Perth, Peel and South West regions at your place of residence. This is the best way to protect your friends, family and community from COVID-19. This would include wearing a mask if you leave your home for one of essential reasons below. Stay at home unless you need to: - work because you can’t work from home or remotely; - shop for essentials like groceries, medicine and necessary supplies; - medical or health care needs including compassionate requirements and looking after the vulnerable; and - exercise within your neighbourhood, but only with one other person and only for one hour per day. Get COVID-19 tested if you feel sick. If you have visited any of the locations the Department of Health have listed as potential exposure sites at the dates and times listed you must isolate, get tested for COVID-19 and continue isolation until you receive a negative result: https://healthywa.wa.gov.au//Locations-visited-by-confirme WA Goverment details of the lockdown are here: https://www.wa.gov.au/.../perth-metro-peel-and-south-west... 04.01.2022 From 6:00pm Friday, 5 February the South West region will be out of lockdown, and the Perth/Peel region will enter a post-lockdown transition period until 12:01...am Sunday, 14 February 2021. During the transition for the Perth/Peel region, face masks will continue to be mandatory outside the home in indoor and outdoor areas. Schools and higher education facilities should reopen on Monday 8 February, with masks mandatory for all staff except if clear enunciation is required when teaching, and for secondary school and higher education students. Primary school students are not required to wear masks. All businesses, workplaces and venues, except for nightclubs and the casino, may resume operation with some restrictions in place. A 4 square metre rule will apply to all venues, with a maximum limit of up to 150 people (excluding staff). Contact registers will continue to be mandatory at most venues and businesses. You will need to check-in with the SafeWA app or add your details to manual registers as required. Indoor and outdoor private gatherings will be limited to no more than 20 people. Travel to and from the Perth/Peel region will be permitted for essential reasons and for work purposes. A G2G PASS is required and travellers will need to produce approval for travel when requested by an authorised officer at the border checkpoints. These temporary limitations, along with everyone keeping up healthy habits, will continue to keep WA protected from COVID-19 as we enjoy more freedom.
