24.01.2022 ...and here is the great news. The St Helena Fire is officially Out. The fire is no longer listed on the RFS website or Fires Near Me. Great work by all of the ...crews on the fire ground, organisations such as the NSWSES, the Salvation Army and the Rapid Relief Team providing support and feeding hundreds of people every day as well as the many, many individuals who pitched in in what ever way they could. Such a great community spirit in the face of such a big challenge. Resources can now be concentrated on the four remaining fires. See more

18.01.2022 The Gospers Mountain fire is now contained. After lightning started the fire on October 26, it has burnt through more than 512,000 hectares across the Lithgow,... Hawkesbury, Hunter Valley, Cudgegong, Blue Mountains and Central Coast local government areas. The firefighting effort has seen a range of local, interstate, federal and international agencies involved. Containment took longer than expected due to unfavourable weather conditions, however due to our hardworking crews, we have achieved that today. It is important to remember not to be complacent as there are still a few months of the bush fire season to go with some bushland that still has not been burnt.

16.01.2022 SCENIC WORLD IS OPEN Thanks to the incredible efforts of the NSW Rural Fire Service and NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service, we are unaffected by local bushfires and open. The Scenic Railway, Cableway, Skyway and Walkway are all operating as normal. Guests can disembark in the valley and enjoy access to all the Scenic Walkway including the 10, 30- and 50-minute walks. Skyway East Station is open and operating as normal. 12.01.2022 This is the most positive news weve had in some time. The recent rainfall has assisted firefighters to put over 30 fires out since Friday. Some of these blazes have been burning for weeks and even months.

05.01.2022 Following the recent relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions, we are pleased to announce the re-opening of the Valley Heights Rail Museum, effective 12 July. Museu...m management and volunteers have been working very hard to achieve this re-opening and we would like to acknowledge the assistance of Transport Heritage NSW for their guidance and assistance to reach this milestone. Re-opening will mean changes to how we operate, to ensure we comply with current COVID-19 guidelines. Online bookings, social distancing and a regular cleaning regime will be necessary, to provide a safe and hygienic venue for our volunteers and visitors. Further details will be posted on our website and on this Facebook page in the near future regarding booking details.

At the time of writing Blackheath is still under threat but Katoomba, Leura and Wentworth Falls are not in any immediate danger. The Great Western Highway is open. There is very little wind today and there is a forecast for light rain for the next couple of days.
