21.01.2022 All you squashies out there. Schedule this into your calendar

21.01.2022 Freshly strung racquets all ready for the annual pilgrimage to Parkes for doubles. Bring on a big weekend of squash (And maybe a beer or three) Rohan Toole

21.01.2022 Back in my home away from home - sunny Leeton. Love coming up here and coaching at the club and catching up with everyone. Not the same without the Quinlivan and Jennings crews - but still a great time. Bloody hot and humid - is it beer time yet?!

19.01.2022 Great day training with these two boys down in Geelong. Getting the Team BML Squash hoodies out for a run!!! Good luck at the Vic Open Rohan Toole

19.01.2022 So - is the next installment a lengthy written Piece of work or a short video. I don’t care either way

18.01.2022 Big week for BML squash. Lets start with the Hayes boys and their big wins at the WA State Titles this weekend. Darcy finally over came his State Title runner up streak and won the u13 title. Big brother, Connor, claimed the U15 title and continues his great year. Earlier this week the Baines girls competed at the NSW Combined High School tournament and both were selected to play in the NSW CHS to play in the Trans Tasman event in a few months time. Great effort girls.

16.01.2022 Sad day for squash

16.01.2022 Big day for Team BML Squash / Oliver sponsored players at the Vic State Titles. 8 players made the State Junior Team with Alex Baines being made Captain. So proud of these kids and what they have achieved. As for the Titles - great result for Jack Quinlivan winning back to back U17 titles and Gabby Baines runner up in the U15 girls. Good results also for Nicky and Alex Baines. Now it’s time to sit in front of the heater and thaw out!!

14.01.2022 Oh the IOC - what a bunch of f$#%ing tools. Let’s add in a sport called - break dancing - it’s not a sport, it’s an 80’s throw back. Love to see what cash has changed hands to allow that to happen!!

13.01.2022 The individuals at AJC 2019 are now done and dusted - congratulations to all winners and finalists. Very proud of two of our sponsored players: Gabby Baines - r/up girls under 15 Darcy Hayes - 3rd boys under 13 Rest up everyone and enjoy the teams event

12.01.2022 Been a few months since I have done any coaching - between covid and the two shops - finding time is hard. Great to have Haider and Kuhmal come down to Geelong for a couple of hours today and work on some key aspects of their games. Great fun boys, thanks to Dave Crossley for bringing them down.

11.01.2022 Over the weekend at the Mountain Districts Tournament BML squash had a few young players having a crack. Congratulations to Connor Hayes for winning Div 4 and to his brother Darcy for taking out Div 5. Darcy beat another BML player - Heider Naqvi - so a great result for a few of our younger players. Well done boys

11.01.2022 Hey there all you squashies out there, the new ASICS Gel Rockets have just arrived at Brighton Sports. Men’s and women’s versions, great colours and as good as what you expect from ASICS shoes. Great prices on great shoes - see you soon, or contact me if you need a pair shipped

10.01.2022 Another Australian Head Coach bites the dust. At what stage do we start looking at other models for delivering coaching to our players? It’s obvious the current model doesn’t work due to a number of reasons: 1 - The physical size of Australia 2 - Number of kids actually playing 3 - Number of potential PSA players from our limited pool 4 - Limited funding ... Going and hiring another person into the same role within the same structure is a waste of time and money. Time for discussions to be held with the right people about potential ways forward because at the moment coaching in Australia is a farce

09.01.2022 Powerful life lesson from a great man

06.01.2022 Over the past few years I have had the pleasure of watching a great mate of mine build a great junior squash program with out much fuss and with great success. Dave Crossley and his crew out at Focus Squash out at Gladdy Park are an example of what a huge amount of passion can do. Dave is very humble and is one of the kindest, supportive and enthusiastic guys you will ever meet and his program is kicking goals for junior squash. He has great support from the club, parents and other coaches and is an example of what can be done for squash. Great work Chewy - you are inspirational.

06.01.2022 Fantastic to be invited by my great friend Dave Crossley to work with his junior group this morning. Worked hard on warm courts, they all did really well - see you all again soon David Crossley

05.01.2022 Last week I dropped a quick note about the 7P's. "Piss Poor Preparation Produces Piss Poor Performance". Pretty self explanatory but below are a few key points about the 7P's and some other key things you need to remember.(I'm trying to not let this be too long so I will bullet point them):... - Set yourself bite size / achievable goals. Going too big, too early will inevitably lead to disappointment. - You need to learn that there is a big chance you will NOT achieve your ultimate goal - sounds harsh but it's true. It's also OK if you know you have done everything you can. - When you hear a champion tell you that if you believe, it will happen - it doesn't work like that. - Prepare to win but also prepare yourself as to how you will deal with bad days / losses - Preparation = planning. Planning = identification of key aspects to help achieve success. - Preparation is not just about being physically fit and hitting thousands of balls. It includes a lot of small things such as: sleeping, eating, hydration, strategy, tactics, player research - just to name a few. - Mental preparation is KEY - At tournaments preparation goes down in to smaller details like - monitoring match times, do you have water, eyewear, towel, racquets and shoes etc. Sounds simple - Let me tell you I have seen it all. This is all tip of the iceberg stuff , just a few things to consider about preparing yourself - you can't expect to succeed if you don't do the small things well and consistently. I'll touch base again soon.

03.01.2022 Big day up in Melton at the junior event yesterday with some great results by our players. An amazing clean sweep by the three Baines machines in their respective divisions and a runners up for Connor Hayes in his group. Great effort by all.

02.01.2022 We have been keeping a relatively low profile here at BML Squash, just sitting back and watching a lot of squash stuff come out on Facebook - some good and some just a complete waste of time. So I just wanted to throw in a quick message to players about preparation. Not just fitness, strategy or targets but overall preparation. So to give you something to ponder until I delve into more detail - ALL of my players lived and died by one creed: "Piss Poor Preparation Produces ...Piss Poor Performance". This became my crews mantra for training and competing but more importantly can be applied across all facets of your life. It doesn't involve weird rituals, incense burning ceremonies or standing on one leg and barking like a dog. It's very simple - prepare everything you do - results don't just come about because you would like them to!! I will leave that with you to mull over - in my next post I will start talking more about the "7 P's" and how it is practically applied to squash.

02.01.2022 Big couple of weeks for the Hayes boys - last week a big show at the ACT junior titles and thus weekend some great results at the SA State titles. Results Connor runner up ACT u15 Darcy runner up ACT 13 Connor U15 and U17 champion SA... Darcy U13 runner up SA Awesome effort fellas

02.01.2022 Hugely excited for Team BML Squash Player - Gabby Baines - who has had a big few days at the AJC in Tassie and has made the U15 girls final. Great work Gabs - so proud of what you have achieved.

01.01.2022 Big congrats to Alex Baines and Jack Quinlivan on their results at the AJO in Sydney. Baines lost to the no 2 seed in the quarters and Jack lost out in the U17 semis. Great work boys - now we head to State titles
