23.01.2022 Thank you to all who came to our MEG Community Lunch at DCAG. We had lots of yummy pizza and food, and it was a very relaxing afternoon watching the kids play and chatting in the warm spring air. Lots of great things were swapped, including kale, spring onions, leek, cos lettuce, chook eggs, coriander, coriander seeds, mustard greens, asparagus, tree protectors and stakes, and a compost bin!

16.01.2022 Hi folks. Lots of the pages followers have let us know they find attending the monthly Produce Swap difficult, but love the idea and would like to swap their home grown produce with others. A Group has now been created to make this easier: You can post offers of your surplus produce and requests for things you are seeking, and arrange to meet up with responders privately through the messaging function. Hopefully this makes Produce Swapping easier for everyone! https://www.facebook.com/groups/396079437498359/

15.01.2022 In an effort to make the Bacchus Marsh Produce Swap more accessible, this facebook Group has been created. You can join and post on this group to advertise home grown produce you'd like to swap with other local gardeners, and we can better interact online as a swapping community.

13.01.2022 Shared from Gillian Loughman : Would anyone like some FREE mulch? If yes bring your trailer/ute or whatever to Connor St BM & help yourself . A guy knocked on my door yesterday & asked if I wanted some FREE mulch, I told him no as I did not have anywhere to put it ; he said it was only a small amount & would fit on the small area of my nature strip that did not have any plants on it... (about 2 mtrs wide) he assured me it would not cover any of my plants - this is what I came home to last night - his idea of a small amount differs greatly from mine - I am unable to use it all so please help me get rid of it. If I knew the name of business he was from I would demand they come & remove it as he has surely deceived me regarding the amount. Posted this on BM Residents page earlier this morning with a few people responding (admin has now turned comments off) There is heaps of mulch, so far only a small amount has gone - if anyone else wants some I'm sure there is plenty to go round

01.01.2022 I am devastated this is serious - you CANNOT compost this or it will come back and haunt you as compost is the perfect breeding ground! It has previously ruin...ed fruit crops in Northern Victorian regions when it was not controlled. The rest of Victoria is on alert because this could devastate commercial and home growers alike. Prevention and responding to early detection is the most sensible and cost efficient way to manage this, because if not managed this could wipe out an entire fruit crop. Those who have dealt with Queensland Fruit Fly (qff) - have shared their devastating experiences. Victoria is not immune, nor am I and nor are you! This is not what I expected in my own backyard, but I feared it when I saw it. Samples have been sent off for further laboratory DNA testing, as preliminary testing has indicated it could be qff. If you see this in Yarra Valley you must contact [email protected] There is more information on Keep Yarra Valley fruit fly free www.fruitflyfreeyv.com.au or www.Agriculture.vic.gov.au for other areas in Victoria Stay tuned because when I get results, I’ll keep you informed. I don’t want to be an alarmist, but this is serious stuff, it’s likely that it is qff, and if so then action must be taken to monitor and control or it will mean major losses next season. Note: qff is the common name for Bactrocera tryoni
