25.01.2022 We have reached the end of our Women's Self Defence Program and what a journey! We have learnt many news skills and have finished feeling empowered, confident ...and more aware of how to defend ourselves against an attacker. Thank you to all the women who supported and participated so passionately and who all helped to make this course so enjoyable. A massive thank you to our wonderful instructor Robert Caruana from Efficiency Jiu Jitsu and Fitness Academy. You made the program fun, relevant and individualized it to what we wanted and needed. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills with the world and being an ambassador for putting a stop to domestic violence and violence against women. I think all of us who participated would highly recommend these programs and we will definitely be hosting this course again in the new year...so watch this space!

23.01.2022 Today marks the end of National Pain Week. Pain is a normal human experience. Its purpose is one of protection. However, often when pain becomes chronic, it is not a signal of ongoing tissue damage requiring protection. Pain Physiotherapist Dr Tania Gardner APAM, with contributions from Tim Austin APAM NSW Pain Group Chair, Melanie Galbraith APAM WA group Chair, Michelle Wilson APAM, Peter Roberts APAM, FACP, Lois Tonkin APAM and Honoured APA Member and National Pain Group Chair Dianne Wilson discuss five facts for pain prevention. Read the full article in the July edition of InMotion at https://bit.ly/2X0zgnn This #infographic is proudly brought to you by the Physiotherapy Research Foundation (PRF) supporting research translation. #NPW2020 #choosephysio #PRF #painprevention #physiotherapy

20.01.2022 With 1 in 5 Australian adults currently living with a mental health condition, its more important than ever that we use a holistic approach to health. A physiotherapist can bridge the gap between physical and psychological symptoms, ensuring you receive treatment focusing on you as a whole person and how you interact with your environment. This is the basis of our philosophy at Body Mind Wellness Physiocare. #choosephysio

20.01.2022 Muscles are important for every day life and overall health. In The Guardian’s article, Tristan Chai, Physio and APAM, highlights that we need our muscles to be strong so that we don’t end up absorbing the impact of movement in the wrong places an easy way to wind up with an injury or chronic pain. Try out some of these simple movements and read the full article here: https://bit.ly/3jfhHrZ

20.01.2022 Interesting...Planking. Once a social media competition, planking has more gusto about it than the trend may lead you to believe. An article by Business Insider recently explored the exercise and listed its many, many benefits. And planks dont just target your abs, but require almost all the major muscle groups in your body to work together. But if you've never planked you need a graduated program because doing a plank incorrectly can cause more problems than it's worth...speak to your physio today! https://www.businessinsider.com.au/plank-benefits-2020-7

14.01.2022 With many of us now working from home here are some guidelines for a CORRECT WORKSTATION SET UP to prevent any postural/sitting pain. My preferred option, is a stand-up desk. So please check out the two images and try to replicate. And remember... *Keep your KNEES & SHOULDERS RELAXED as you stand. *DON'T STAND STILL. Shift side to side. Rock back and forth. Pace or dance! The more you fidget and move as you stand, the longer youll be able to do it comfortably and productively. *TAKE REGULAR BREAKS.Your Best Posture is Your Next Posture. Standing can help fight sitting pain, but it has its own problems, so take a break to sit or walk (or squat) every half hour or so. *Wear your comfy clothes/shoes and surround yourself with plants!

12.01.2022 Listen to your body. Take care of your body.... Its the only place you have to live! If you've been inactive for a while, getting moving again can lead to injuries. Listening to your body, and discussing your plan with your physio, is the best step you can take to building up your strength and fitness.... Read the full ABC article at https://ab.co/340UGn9

12.01.2022 Ready to get back to the gym post-iso? Be sure to follow these tips from physios around Australia to make your return without injury as smooth as possible. Warm-up and cool-down properly using stretching, foam-rolling and icing techniques to aid in your recovery. Drop your pre-iso weight by 20-30% and gradually increase the weight over four-eight weeks depending on your age and fitness level. Get your form checked by a professional and ensure you are controlled and slow... in your repetitions. Don't go too hard, too early! Build up to your pre-iso levels as your muscles and tendons will have likely shrunk, making you more susceptible to injury. Check in with your local physio to avoid injury and manage your return to full capacity. For more recommendations from APA Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist Julie Campbell, MACP, and Brooke Patterson, APAM, on returning to the gym, head to https://ab.co/2XPA3Z6 #StayFitSaturday #gym #choosephysio #weekendworkout
