25.01.2022 As an industry we often talk about how its the people that make it and thats the same when it comes to making communities. These bushfires are unprecedented and right now a lot of communities are going through devastating times which Im sure has left a lot of us wondering what we can do to help these people. There are a lot of good people in this industry and many know people affected by these fires, so why dont we come together as an industry and make a joint effort as p...eople and businesses to help these people? How do we do this? Our customers past and present! Between us we have many hundreds of thousands of customers that have booked in our stores, stayed in our hostels and experienced our tours. The thing they have in common is that they have come to Australia and left with incredible memories. So many will be watching on heartbroken from their home countries, probably wondering how they can help. We can give them this opportunity. Weve set up the following page with Australian Red Cross. This money will go directly to the Bushfire Disaster Fund they have set up. Some ideas for how businesses in the industry can contribute: Donate to the page as a business. Email all customers in your database with a heartfelt email; include the link to the page and inspire them with your donation and the fact were doing this as an industry. This is easy done with our databases and Ive put our example e-mail in the first comment. Run an Instagram and Facebook post with a similar theme. Same again but through a story, ideally showing some facts and figures. Create a splash page, pop up on your website so any visitors can always donate. There is also a donation page below, this idea isnt ground-breaking although a simple way for us to best help together. Please send this to as many businesses as possible and feel free to share amongst family and friends. Lets do this industry!

04.01.2022 The beginning of 2020 has certainly brought some unique challenges to our industry and many others. We are wishing everyone good health through these times. With the unfortunate impact that the Coronavirus outbreak has had on the world we have had to plan for the reality of what may happen in Australia. Planned events around Sydney have already started cancelling and the F1 Grand Prix in Melbourne has also just been cancelled. We see this as a sign of what is to come in the m...onths ahead and have had to make some decisions around our own events. BOA had two key industry ticketed events planned in the coming months: - The first, in April - In support of NSW Bushfire Relief, an overnight trip from Sydney to Katoomba. Travelling through bushfire effected areas visiting and supporting local businesses and hearing from effected business owners. Once reaching Katoomba holding an open BOA Committee meeting inviting members attending the event as well as local operators in the area, followed by an industry networking event. Whilst we still think its important to support NSW Bushfire Relief, due the current climate we understand it is not be a suitable time for the industry to commit to such an event, as focusing on their own business is paramount. As such, BOA will be postponing this event and we look forward to hosting it at a later date. - The second, in May In conjunction with No Vacancy holding a youth industry focused conference at the ICC in Sydney followed by the Annual BOA Ball. Due to event changes out of our control the youth industry focused conference will not be going ahead. In consideration of the uncertainty of what may occur in the coming weeks we understand that industry will not commit to events until outcomes are known, therefore the BOA Ball that was planned for May 2020, will not be going ahead. We will be discussing our options for the Ball in the coming weeks and be looking to schedule an event later in the year that will benefit our members. We are disappointed that these events will not be going ahead as planned, however we will continue to work in the best interest of our members and plan for future events that will benefit the industry.
