03.01.2022 As the data comes in, it is indisputable that Covid-19 is not near as lethal as the public health folks predicted. The models they used when this outbreak bega...n predicted a very high lethality rate. Fortunately, the actual data that has come in shows a much higher infectivity rate in the general population that initially believed which increases the denominator reducing the percentage lethality rates. Theories and models do not necessarily work out and Covid is a case in point. It is not about who wins or loses, but recognizing the actual data is different than the models. It is time for the ivory tower experts to recognize the models used were wrong. It is time to be courageous and recognize that the data shows Covid to far less serious than the media and experts have touted. As I have said before, people will still get sick and some will die just as people will get sick and some will die of the flu. What is also significant at this time of the year is there is no respiratory disease I know of that does not decrease in summertime. If there is one, please let me know. Is there a downside to sheltering? Yes. There is a drastic effect on the economy, increase suicides, increased depression, increased anxiety, increased alcohol abuse, increased spousal abuse, and many other down sides. These problems have already been seen. We have had two deaths in Teton County which could have been avoided if the victims had come to the ER expeditiously. Was the irrational fear of Covid at the hospital the cause for their delay? There is a third person who definitely did delay going to the ER who ended up being flown to SLC for non Covid related care. It is difficult to estimate how many times these type of delays happen in the country, but we are a small county with three examples just in the last week alone. It is time to get back to work. It is time for the hospital to restart elective surgeries and routine care. It is time to reopen schools and reopen public events over the next few weeks. Small businesses need to be re-opened. Your dog will get used to you not being home as much as you have over the past few weeks. Pet your dog and go to work.
