25.01.2022 Starting this week, we'll be bringing back #TipTuesday giving you a bonus tip every week! The Tuesday tips will be to do with Safe Towing so keep your eyes peeled! Do you know the requirements of oversize boats travelling on the roads? Here's a handy chart to summarise!

24.01.2022 November 2020 Event - https://mailchi.mp/595711a/february-2020-newsletter-1404832

22.01.2022 National Safe Boating Week 29 Sep 2020 - 2 Oct 2020 Icon Theme Message... 26 Sep 2020 Know It Safe boating means knowing the limits of your vessel. Before you go, make sure your boat is seaworthy and appropriate for your chosen activity. 27 Sep 2020 Service It Safe boating means being a responsible boat owner. Boats need regular maintenance, servicing and safety checks to keep them shipshape. 28 Sep 2020 Pack It Safe boating means carrying the right safety equipment. You’ll need different items depending on your vessel type and whether you’re in open or enclosed waters. 29 Sep 2020 Check It Safe boating means assessing the weather and choosing a suitable time and place to go out. Conditions can change quickly, so don’t hesitate to head back in. If in doubt, don’t go out. 30 Sep 2020 Plan It Safe boating means planning your trip and telling an emergency contact where you’re headed and what time you’ll be back. Where possible log on and off with Marine Rescue. 01 Oct 2020 Learn It Safe boating means knowing the rules and laws that keep all of us safe. Remember, boating safety is a responsibility we all share as waterway users. 02 Oct 2020 Wear It Safe boating means wearing a life jacket, the most important piece of safety equipment on any recreational vessel. Wear It to Work Day Wear your life jacket to work on Friday 2nd October and show your colleagues that if it’s easy enough to wear at work, it’s easy enough to wear on the water.

22.01.2022 This is the final installment of this series of Tip Thursdays but there will be more to come! Stay tuned! #TipThursday

22.01.2022 It is with much sadness we advise the passing of past President 1987- 90 and 2012-14 Life Member 1992 of the Boating Industry Association of WA Jim (Jimbo) was 74 years old. Jim became a member in 1978 being active in attending every AGM of the association. Jim's passion for the recreational boating industry and his involvement in the Mangles Bay Fishing Club along with Sea Rescue will be greatly missed. Jim gave his time generously to staff and directors of the association... and never sought nor expected anything in return other than the success for his fellow members. His voice was always heard. The thoughts of the BIAWA board of directors, staff and members remain with Jim's family. Fair winds and following seas. Rest in Peace

22.01.2022 Rottnest Island Now Open Please note the following update As you may be aware, work has now commenced on the rebuild of the Rottnest Island Fuel Jetty with works expected to be completed by November 2020.... During the works period, access to the Fuel Jetty (including fuelling, berthing and pen mooring) will be closed to all vessels. The new jetty will offer a number of benefits to those visiting the Island including a new deck, additional power and water facilities, new finger jetties, improved refuelling/berthing for smaller vessels and an extended end platform. Once the Island is reopened to visitors this Saturday 6 June, skippers of vessels travelling to the Island will need to ensure they have adequate fuel supplies for their entire journey to and from the Island for the duration of the project. I will provide you with regular updates on the project over the coming months. Regards Lynleigh and the RIA

16.01.2022 Australian Builders Plates (ABP) - proposed update to ABP Standard The Department of Transport has been working with national and state marine regulators to review the ABP standard, which determines how calculations for the ABP are made. The ABP Standard ensures recreational boaters are provided with essential safety guidance regarding their boats loading and passenger capacity, engine size and buoyancy characteristics. With the intention of improving safety outcomes, a ...new ABP Standard has been proposed and public feedback is now sought. Maritime Safety Queensland are hosting the consultation on behalf of the Australian Recreational Boating Safety Committee. Key changes proposed include: further guidance for boat builders regarding how ABP values are determined; requiring flotation to be fitted in accordance with nominated technical standards; making the operational warning statement a mandatory inclusion on the ABP; and generally restructuring the ABP Standard to improve safety outcomes and ease-of-use. To comment on the proposed ABP Standard changes and for more information, please visit msq.qld.gov.au/A/News-and-stories/Australian-Builders-Plate. Consultation closes 31 January 2020.

11.01.2022 Recreational Vessel Safety Equipment Review The Department of Transport WA wants you to be part of the final consultation for recommended changes to safety equipment requirements for recreational vessels on WA waterways. Transport Minister Rita Saffioti recently released the Recreational Vessel Safety Equipment Review Position Paper detailing 12 proposals including the compulsory wearing of lifejackets for children and by anyone on a vessel less than 4.8 metres in length.... The paper follows an initial round of consultation in 2017. It has been more than 25 years since the last review of safety equipment for recreational vessels in WA and the reforms are designed to make it easier for skippers and to save lives on the water. Boat owners and users, those who have personal water craft or regularly paddle, windsurf or enjoy kite surfing can read the paper and provide feedback by visiting: >> transport.wa.gov.au/imarine/safety-equipment-review.asp Information sessions: A series of special information sessions will be held around the State commencing at Bunbury on Tuesday October 22, 2019. Visit Safety Equipment Review for other locations and to find out how to register to attend. HAVE YOUR SAY!
