19.01.2022 1950s Eddystone Point Lightstation Eddystone, Tasmania Constructed - 1889... Automated - 1930s The Dobber Family at Eddystone. Eddystone station was very remote in the early days, with limited access due to shifting sands on the access road. Most supplies had to be shipped in. At these remote stations the lightkeepers and families had to be as "self sufficient" as possible. Many stations had gardens, crops, chickens and livestock etc... As well as fishing to help supplement their food requirements. 10.01.2022 It would be fair to say that we are very excited to be blessed with some West Coast weather for this weeks Master <24m practical training. Our aim is to get into Bathurst Harbour. During the COVID 19 restrictions we have completed the theory aspects of the course, and now are completing the final prac week of three smaller groups. This weeks lucky group will hopefully see some of Tasmania’s rarest sights.
