18.01.2022 With the sun setting a lot earlier, it is vitally important to check that your navigation lights are installed correctly and that you know when to turn them on.... When underway, you must have your port, starboard and all-round white light on. If you are at anchor, you leave your all-round white light on, and turn off the red and greens. This must be done at night and in poor visibility. All you need to know about nav lights: https://transportsafety.vic.gov.au//vessel-navigation-ligh See more

17.01.2022 Boaters should be aware that there is a 500m exclusion zone around the Ocean Onyx in Port Phillip Bay. This is an offshore exploration drilling rig that is betw...een jobs. The rig is crewed with a reduced number until it is deployed to the next project. The exclusion zone is in place to reduce the likelihood of any collisions occurring with the structure or mooring gear deployed for the platform. Please comply with the 500m exclusion zone. https://www.vicports.vic.gov.au//ocean-onyx-at-anchorage.a See more

14.01.2022 Vanessa explains how to appropriately dispose of your emergency position indicating beacon (EPIRB). 13.01.2022 This morning we boarded the Singapore-flagged container ship APL England at the Port of Brisbane anchorage following Sundays incident involving the loss of abo...ut 40 containers overboard during heavy seas. Our team of surveyors conducted a seaworthiness inspection to establish the structural and operational condition of the ship. The outcome of this inspection will help inform if, and how, the ship might be brought safely into the Port of Brisbane. It appears that the affected stacks contained a wide range of goods like household appliances, building materials and medical supplies. We have also received a report of some medical supplies (for example, face masks) washing up between Magenta Beach and The Entrance. If you see debris which could be linked to the incident, please pass this information on to NSW Maritime. Read more in todays update: http://ow.ly/S8PT50zPTNK

09.01.2022 In our last video, we spoke about using mobile phones to call for help. While we understand phones are often first to hand, a GPS-enabled distress beacon (PLB o...r EPIRB) is your best chance of being found quickly in an emergency. This is especially important as colder temperatures set in and your risk of hypothermia increases. If you are in any difficulty, dont be afraid to press the button. Rescue agencies would choose an early start over a search in the dark every time. Our recreational boating safety expert Gareth recommends always taking a beacon out with you - even in Port Phillip Bay. #Carryadistressbeacon Better Boating Victoria Vic Emergency Parks Victoria Victoria Police See more

01.01.2022 Important information: NSW has updated its Murray River maritime rules. The NSW border starts from the high water mark on the Victorian side of the Murray Rive...r. People currently in Victoria who intend to enter NSW waters using a vessel on the Murray River must have a permit. This applies to: Each person on board a vessel entering NSW waters from Victoria; and All recreational and commercial vessels, including houseboats. This replaces previous advice that did not include the requirement to have a border entry permit. NSW Police are enforcing border entry requirements. You can apply for a border entry permit via Service NSW here: service.nsw.gov.au/t/apply-covid-19-nsw-border-entry-permit Further information about NSW border restrictions can be found here: nsw.gov.au//what-you-can-and-cant-do-u/border-restrictions Victorian Fisheries Authority Maritime Safety Victoria VRFish Boating Industry Association of Victoria Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning Parks Victoria
