24.01.2022 Following up on yesterdays posting about the potential demolition of boat sheds around Fourth Avenue, I went searching in my archives and found these images from 2016. One of the reasons for the Boat Sheds Tasmania page is to record and document them before many of them disappear. Could someone go and take more photos before their likely demolition - or maybe save them?

09.01.2022 Nothing new here unfortunately. A few years ago, a group of us challenged the legitimacy of Sorell Council charging rates for boat sheds sitting on Crown Land Public Reserve as the Local Government Act stated quite clearly that we were exempt - but no one at council had bothered to read it. They reviewed every boat shed in their jurisdiction and discovered that they had been charging most shed owners illegally for some years. For twelve months, rates werent charged but then ...the Local Government Association, at the behest of councils, lobbied the government to change the Local Government Act (including a clause to stop shed owners claiming restitution for rates charged illegally in the past) to reinstate the gouging. You are being charged rates for no services and Sorell Council, as well as all the other councils with boat sheds in their area, are happy to raise revenue that way, Time for another challenge eh? 06.01.2022 Well, something is in the air (or maybe the water) down there and if youve "been thinking about getting a boat shed for summer", nows your chance with this one at Red Ochre Beach, Dodges Ferry as well as the opportunity at White Beach on the Tasman Peninsula. And theres my old place on Parnella Road peeping out of the bush above the red arrow.
