22.01.2022 2021 Anti-Doping Policy] Bocce Australia has recently approved it’s 2021 Anti-Doping Policy which comes into effect on 1 January 2021. The Bocce Australia anti-doping policy is the Australian National Anti-Doping Policy and can be found on the Sport Integrity Australia website at ... https://www.sportintegrity.gov.au/. All members, participants and non-participants in the sport of Bocce are bound by these rules. This includes athletes, support personnel and employees whose employment contracts enables this. It is important that all members understand their obligations under the new policy. Changes include a new anti-doping rule violation of retaliation, a category of athletes that is lower-level and flexibility related to sanctioning for certain levels of athletes/participants. 20.01.2022 MICHAEL MIGLIACCIO SHARES HIS BOCCE HISTORY I started playing bocce in 2013. I love the social and club competition aspects and am currently Bocce Club President at Knox Italian Community Club (KICC). My volunteer role with Bocce Australia is representative for SOA Bocce.... During my time at KICC, the fortnightly bocce training of SOA athletes took my interest; they’ve been playing at KICC for about 25 years. However, there was little growth of athletes over the years. I also have/had special family members; a cousin and an aunt, the latter no longer with us. I started asking questions about SOA. Early in 2016, I was asked to join SOA as a volunteer coach. Although a bocce novice, I volunteered to give coaching of the seven athletes a go. I thought yes; I can do this and hopefully increase athlete numbers while increasing their skills and enjoyment. Within three months, more athletes were coming to training; parents also came to check out the new coach. In 2017, I attended a BA Bocce Coaching course run by Tony Biancacci. I adapted my new skill set to the specific SOA rules; the athletes engaged really well. I was selected Victorian Bocce Coach for the 2018 National Games in Adelaide and led a team of 17 athletes (3 athletes from my MER team). One Victorian athlete, Vicky Robbins, along with three other athletes from other states were selected to represent Australia at the Abu Dhabi World Games in 2019, where Vicky won gold and two silver medals. I’m very proud of all my athletes we are a family and part of this special club and SOA. Melbourne Eastern Ranges (MER) has 22 bocce athletes (86 across SOA clubs in Victoria). We have started recruiting juniors for next year and plan to have Junior Bocce tournaments. Wanting to share the World Games success with SOA Clubs across Victoria, I arranged with Bocce Australia’s Tony Biancacci to introduce a revised bocce training course for our Victorian SOA Bocce volunteers. This was followed by a resource guide and reference folder approved by SOA and Bocce Australia for all SOA Clubs in Australia. All SOA Bocce athletes are ready and eager to restart bocce late January/early February. We have a COVID-19 plan in place; all our coaches have Safe Covid-19 procedures certificates. My next goal: to be reselected as Vic Coach for Tasmania Nationals 2022 and hopefully National Bocce Coach for the 2023 Berlin SOA World Games. SOA Bocce is a non-strenuous game for Special People with intellectual disabilities. We encourage and train our athletes to enjoy and have fun playing Bocce, while competing in state, national and international tournaments. Written by Michael Migliaccio

10.01.2022 MEET JUNIOR PLAYER JENAE FEDORCZYK Bocce Australia recently caught up with Queensland’s energetic and popular junior player, Jenae Fedorczyk. Jenae has lived in south east Queensland all of her life and plays for the Redlands Bocce Centre who Jenae says is a great community.... It was great for Bocce Australia to get better acquainted with this young bocce rising star who, in a short time playing, is already making her mark on the game. Here is an excerpt of our interview: BA: How long have you been playing bocce? JF: First introduced to the sport in July 2018 when the senior nationals were held at our local courts. I started going to the courts shortly after nationals was over and that lead to more training. BA: What is your favourite event? JF: To play: doubles. To watch: rapid relay or precision. BA: Best bocce tip you have ever received? JF: As I was still reasonably new to the sport when I went to the junior nationals in Victoria in 2019, I was given advice on how to better my balance while I was pointing / shooting and that really changed the way I performed from there on out. BA: You were recently a guest panellist on The Bocce Dome Show. How did you find that experience? JF: I was initially nervous. Despite knowing the rest of the panel members and having played with Nicole Samsa (pictured above) and Max Tricarico their technique and knowledge of the game is much more advanced so I felt a bit behind. Nevertheless, they made me feel super comfortable and it was a very fun experience with plenty of laughs and catching up! BA: Apart from bocce, what is your favourite thing to do/other interests? JF: I love socialising, which is why I think I enjoy bocce as there is a large social aspect to the game. I enjoy what I do for a job which is working at a photography studio. I’m also finishing up my degree in film, screen and new media this year and hoping that leads to some fun opportunities down the track. BA: What is something people may not know about you? JF: I’m half Polish... although my last name might give that away. The shared interest and passion for bocce is evident when host Tony Palermo has Janae (QLD), Nicole (NSW) and Max (VIC) as guests on the Bocce Dome Panel. Although they all live in different states, the sport of bocce has brought them together and wonderful friendships have been formed. It is refreshing to see this next generation of players paving the way for the sport of bocce. A special big thank you to Sport Australia for having the foresight to guide and support sports through these hard times and to help put in place the reboot of all sports in Australia. 05.01.2022 BOCCE QR codes rolled-out and already proving to be a success! QLD Bocce were first to use the BA QR code system at their Redlands Sporting Club Saturday Bocce social event. Although some players were not familiar with using the QR code system the Tournament Director was quick to help have the names recorded. Meanwhile we look forward to having bocce back in SA. Further announcements are to be made regarding easing of restrictions this coming week, for a further two week peri...od. From Tuesday 1 December community sport in SA will resume, however due to recent developments there will be modifications in place to ensure the risk of infection and transmission is minimised. The detail of these modifications will be clarified prior to 1 December. For bocce the unique Bocce QR code will part of the Covid Safe Plan and will be required to display the QR code or make it available for people to scan with their mobile phone as they attend bocce events or engage in Bocce activity. If patrons do not have the app or a mobile phone, common sense to prevail and the Tournament Director is to record the names onto the QR system after they have filled out the attendance form by pen. 05.01.2022 BOCCE AUSTRALIA PASSES ON SIGNIFICANT FEE RELIEF TO MEMBER STATES/TERRITORIES & REGIONS BY BOCCE AUSTRALIA (29/11/2020) As many States proceed with starting up Bocce events, Bocce Australia (BA) has continued its proactive response to the challenges faced by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the BA Board agreeing to continue with the membership fee relief to its Member State and Territory Associations (STAs) & Regions in the 2020/21 financial year. BA acknowledges and congratul...ates many of the STAs who have confirmed membership fee relief to their members and is pleased to support them by also providing fee relief to counter the impact of the pandemic on the sport. The fee relief is part of BA’s ongoing response to the current challenges, having developed the Return to Bowls Plan and Toolkit earlier in the year to assist Member STA’s, Regions, and clubs in getting back on the bocce courts.
02.01.2022 SOCIAL BOCCE AT PORT LINCOLN - SOUTH AUSTRALIA Port Lincoln Croatian Club has been playing bocce since members migrated to Australia in the 1950s. When the club was first built, bocce was played by both husband and wife as a social get together with friends within the Croatian community. Over time the game became dominated by men until I created a women’s competition in 2007. The competition is now open to the whole of the Port Lincoln community. In the beginning, the compet...ition began with four teams of two players and has increased over the years, having nineteen teams of three players in 2019. The women love playing the game, which is a version of Oz bocce, but also enjoy the fun and laughter that goes with it. They look forward to turning up each week to be greeted by the smiling faces of new and old friendships made through the game of bocce. The women's competition runs from September through to May each year. To celebrate the women's 10th anniversary, we held a bocce weekend which included a women's tournament followed by a celebration dinner. The tournament has since continued each year as an annual event with normally two or three ladies making up a team. Today, the Croatian club has four bocce lanes with concrete edging and a fine aggregate base with a gabled roof. Previously, only two lanes were covered which made playing all-year round difficult. Having the other two lanes covered makes playing more comfortable at any time of the year, giving us more flexibility. This has allowed us to add in a mixed competition in the evenings over the summer months. We were introduced to bocce Raffa last year and held the Australian national Raffa tournament at our club. It was a fun weekend, but it is a shame that many of our players will not give the game of Raffa a go. Most of the men are happy to continue to play their version of Oz bocce and continue to come out and have their social game each weekend, having become very good players. If they were to play Raffa, they would be hard to beat. Written by Lesley Kolega
02.01.2022 Bocce Sport COVID-19 update (23 November 2020) Restrictions ease further in VIC & NSW, while in SA Community Sport still not permitted under current restrictions.
01.01.2022 THE BOCCE DOME: TALKING ALL THINGS BOCCE WITH THE WORLD The global focus on bocce, with the expansion into Asia Oceania along with the COVID-19 transformation of the sport into a new digital way of life, was the ideal time for Bocce Australia’s venture into an online broadcast of The Bocce Dome ‘talking all things bocce’. In July, Bocce Australia launched The Bocce Dome weekly show. It was a way for current members and the greater player community to keep engaged with th...eir much-loved sport. As the episodes featured different topics and guest panellists, viewers were able to learn about the sport, its people, training and coaching techniques and the different codes of bocce. We wanted the show to promote bocce and increase awareness. THE RESULTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES Bocce Australia’s goal was to achieve 500 regular viewers and we exceeded that target and increased our digital reach by 1231+%. Some quick facts about the success of the show which numbers are still increasing are as follows: Over 2,300 viewers with a reach of 6,226 49% women and 50% men Watched in over 18 countries Top three viewing countries: Australia, France and Italy Other countries watching: Turkey, Slovenia, USA, Indonesia Top viewing show to date: Episode 4 Women in Bocce. THE BOCCE DOME TALENT The show's dynamic host Tony Palermo quickly eased into the role entertaining viewers and the panel with his fun and charismatic approach. Tony was joined by regular panellists Dino Mikolic, Vanessa Allegretto, Nicole Samsa, Max Tricarico and Daniel Samsa who all shared their knowledge, experience and many laughs with our audiences. Daniel Samsa tirelessly worked on the production of the show with his assistant Nicole. A sincere thanks to these exceptional ambassadors of our sport, who generously volunteered their time and their enthusiasm in helping develop and roll out this inaugural history-making series of The Bocce Dome show. 01.01.2022 QR Codes for bocce to become compulsory for all Bocce .affiliated clubs, tournaments and events. Bocce Australia continues to look at digital innovation to help with Bocce Sport and are to trial a QR code system that will become compulsory at all Bocce Australia Federation tournaments and events. This is inline with NSW State Government which have made it mandatory in NSW from 23/11/20 with pen and paper sign-in sheets no longer accepted. Businesses and venues in NSW are ...allowed to have their own QR codes. "Bocce Australia are getting on board and have produced our own QR code program which is being rolled out to all States & Territories to test and trial the process in the coming month" . Frank Funari told the newly formed Bocce Leadership Board. "The Bocce QR system developed by David Marks (BFV) is being launched today and once testing has been completed and approved by the States the QR code system will soon be in use at all Bocce events". Pen & paper is very hard sometimes to understand or to interpret the scrawl that is written there, so moving to digital makes easier for the contact tracing.
