24.01.2022 Fighting fires is a family affair for the Luff family. Farmer Stephen, his wife Megan, and their three adult children, Jacob, Daniel and Monique, are all proud ...members of the Tumblong Rural Fire Brigade. He says one of the most important aspects of being part of the NSW RFS is the amount of support available. It’s not a one man show. Joining the local fire brigade is part of belonging to a community and it’s easy to be a part of the team. Reflecting on the 2019/2020 season he said: There were quite a few scary days courtesy of the Dunns Road Fire. The worst when a spot-over took out thousands of hectares including three homes. The most satisfying was on a similar bad day and another spot-over but with a lot of pre-planning and resourcing we were able to contain it. At one point we had 48 fire trucks on the ground holding that fire back from the Tumblong village. And it’s not all fire fighting: Within the brigade there are plenty of ways to be involved and help out, Stephen says. You don’t have to be out holding a hose - you can cook a BBQ, pack or distribute ration packs, get water to the crews when we were very busy (last season) all the helpers kept things moving along. 23.01.2022 To help with your bushfire planning for this imminent fire season, be aware that the best option for protecting your family and pets is to get out early and head for an evacuation centre such as at Moruya or Narooma. This is critical if you suffer loss of mobility, are are ill equipped or unable to defend your property. Bodalla DOES NOT HAVE an evacuation centre, just a PLACE OF LAST RESORT which is the Bodalla Bowling Club CARPARK. It is only the carpark which means there will be no facilities available so no toilets, no food or water, or shelter of any description. A place of last resort does not have facilities for pets or livestock. Places of last resort and evacuation centres are determined by the Eurobodalla Shire Council and while we can advise, it is not the direct responsibility or in control of the RFS.

19.01.2022 This Sunday 29 November was a time for recognition and celebration with a presentation ceremony held at the Bodalla Fire Station. One of our volunteer firefighters was recognized with a Long Service Medal for over 50 years of service. Secondly over 20 volunteer firefighters from the Bodalla Brigade were presented with a Premier’s NSW Bushfire Emergency Citation. This was to recognise the outstanding contribution of volunteers, both firefighters and the support members, during the 2019-2020 bushfires of which there were more than 65,000 people involved.

19.01.2022 Just five months ago, the NSW village of Nerrigundah confronted a raging firestorm. Now, 10 News First checks in on the community still living in ruins -- and still lifting each other's spirits.

17.01.2022 On this day 38 years ago Victoria and South Australia experienced what was to be known as the Ash Wednesday bushfires. Our drought stricken landscape combined w...ith ferocious winds, fanned the fires that swept across the state and devastated many communities. Tragically, 75 lives were lost including 14 CFA and three SA Country Fire Service volunteer firefighters. We take a moment of reflection today, as our thoughts are with those who lost so much on February 16, 1983. ------------ Lifeline: 13 11 14 CFA Wellbeing Support Line: 1800 959 232 Image 1: Wendy Bootle Image 2: Wally Grant

01.01.2022 THREE YEARS ON FROM TATHRA-REEDY SWAMP BUSH FIRE. Today marks three years since the Reedy Swamp-Tathra bushfire swept through our community. 65 homes were lost ...and 48 homes damaged and 35 caravans and cabins were also destroyed on March 18, 2018 when the bushfire, fanned by extraordinarily strong winds, raced from Reedy Swamp towards Tathra town. Today Tathra still wears both physical and emotional scars from the fires, however our Community has grown it's level of resilience and support for one another.
