24.01.2022 ARE YOU BUSHFIRE READY?

24.01.2022 Check the water before getting in this summer. Clean water for swimming, boating and fishing is the norm for Break O’Day beaches, estuaries and rivers. However, we've just had a heavy downpour and floodwaters will take a few days to clear. Our monthly monitoring of water quality at popular locations has consistently shown good water quality for swimming and safe levels of health risk. Of course all our natural waterways may have poorer water quality from time to time due to weather or other conditions (like flooding). Check the water before you or family get in to enjoy a swim or other activity - how far in you get makes a difference too! For more information see the Department of Health’s webpage (www.health.tas.gov.au/publichealth/water/recreational) and ours (www.bodc.tas.gov.au ).

22.01.2022 National Drought and North Queensland Flood Response and Recovery Agency and Rotary Australia are bringing ‘one stop shops’ to St Mary’s on Wednesday 2 December to provide support and advice on the drought and challenges like COVID-19. These events bring together all levels of government, charities, not-for-profit and agricultural organisations to support farmers and rural and regional communities living through the immediate and longer-term effects of drought. It is an excellent opportunity for farmers, families and rural communities to grab a sausage sandwich, catch up with friends and neighbours and find out what support is available during drought and tough times. Come down to St Mary’s Community Hall, Gardiners Creek Rd, St Mary’s between 4pm and 8pm and say hello.
