15.01.2022 It’s taken me a while but the best evidence I could find of my back breaker at Cyclops is a screen shot on YouTube from Tension 7. The wave still holds up to t...oday’s standards so I’m happy about that and it brought back some painful memories. This was my first ever wave out there which myself and Virtue were paddling. We watched for about an hour before hitting the water but were completely ignorant, naive and above all unprepared for what was about to happen. The wave itself looked like a 3ft which I thought would be great for a warm up which made for an easy take off. Little did I know I was about 10ft too deep and it would ultimately wrap in on itself and swallow me up. The main thing I remember from being in the barrel is seeing a big line like a step running the whole way to the end. I realised my position when it was too late and immediately had the feeling in my mind, I’m going to get really hurt here. Next thing I felt what seemed like a sledge hammer hitting me in the spine and completely took the wind from me. Rendered pretty lifeless Virtue came to my aid to hold me up as I was unable to keep my head above water. It was only the 3 of us with @chris.whitey aswell and we only had a JetSki which I had no chance of hoisting up onto. Instead of panicking Wongy pinned it to shore, found a dingy on the shore which he picked up over his head and tied to the back of the ski. Meantime myself and Virtue find ourself in shark infested water in the middle of nowhere with seals jumping all around us. Unlike Wongy Virty panicked and broke down in fear for both our lives. Wongy gets himself back out to the line up, they carefully slide me into the dingy and slowly head back to the nearest beach. There we lay for hours with no plan and no idea of how to move me as we had made a 1.5 hr JetSki ride to find the break and was too rough to pull a dingy back to our car which probably would have taking half a day. After hours pondering they spot a fisherman up the beach and run for help. They slide me in the back of there car and drive the beach way back to our car which was about a 2 hour drive and then another 3 hours to the nearest hospital. Continued..
