25.01.2022 It was all a dream, I used to read muscle-up magazines. Chalk n Peppa and heavy dead balls up in the limousine. Hitting handstands on the wall. Every Saturday, partner up, strap up and go full balls to the wall. I let my tape rock, till my tape popped... Eating protein bars in bamboo sippin on the fit aid stock Way back, when I had the red and black to brace my back, And the knees sleeves to match . If you don’t know. Now you know, bruvvvvva PS: congrats @procopics and @sidneyrrrr for their first muscles ups. We are so stoked when our members reach massive milestones like this!

24.01.2022 Do not pray for an easy life but pray for the strength to endure a difficult one Putting yourself in uncomfortable situations is one of the easiest ways to adopt a growth mindset and develop mental resilience. Most of our troubles are usually less about what actually happened and mostly about how we react to the situation. ... By practising mental fortitude in controlled environments, we will develop the work capacity and skills needed for the main game (just like physical training) Can you learn to be calm when your body is screaming at you? . . . #growth #training #mentalhealth #positivevibes #workout #positivity #howtobecalm See more

24.01.2022 The secret to success is eating high-quality foods in the right quantities for your goals Check out the full blog here. https://bodybybrando.com/portion-sizes-are-you-eating-the-/... *** If you're interested in becoming a member with either our small group or personal training membership at Paddington or Waterloo, jump on the link and find the contact us button.

23.01.2022 Solid day on the squats today to finish out our 3rd week of the first phase in this 12 week cycle. I don’t like to miss many reps during training, but on the same token, at some point in time you need to touch the stimulus in order to know (and move) your thresholds. There are usually 2 types of athletes:... 1. Those who always push their capacity/ thresholds to the max and end up injured 2. Those who never push the stimulus and find themselves lifting the same loads year after year. If you resonate with one of these groups of people, perhaps try swinging your training in favour of the opposite and positioning yourself further along the adaptation continuum

20.01.2022 Are you someone who has no trouble getting into the gym and smashing a workout... but can't seem to stay on track when it comes to nutrition? It's safe to say you are not alone. Many people find the 'calories in' side of the equation harder to manage than the 'calories out' (because let's be real, training feels awesome).... But whether it's tough due to time constraints, laziness, not knowing what to get in the weekly grocery shop, or how to cook anything except plain spaghetti and vegemite toast... All it takes is a little preparation. Our latest blog post will point you in the right direction so you can get a handle on your nutrition again. And the best thing is it shouldn't cost you any extra time or money... it might even save you them in the long run.

19.01.2022 There's an old saying that goes 'if you've forgotten the language of gratitude, you'll never be on speaking terms with happiness'. It looks like this isn't just some fluff statement but backed by research. Our latest blog touches on a few tips that can help make this habit even more effective. Check it out below and start 2021 off on the right foot.... https://bodybybrando.com/what-are-you-thankful-for/

19.01.2022 SLOW MOTION If more people were willing to endure the short term discomfort of spending time under tension (TUT) during a workout, they would soon realise that they would then be free from the long term discomfort of injury and lack of performance. Artificial tempo and TUT are the most under-rated and under-utilised training variables on the free market. ... Short term discomfort for long term results is a great trade off This week we have hit a bunch of tempo work to firstly nail the motor pattern acquisition, but also to develop more time under tension and therefore stimulate the muscle protein synthesis pathways and anabolic potential that comes with increased training volume See more

18.01.2022 HOW TO MAKE HABITS STICK? Start with tiny habits! https://bodybybrando.com/how-to-make-habits-stick/

16.01.2022 Here’s to another epic lap around the sun Thanks for all the birthday love from everyone Whilst I definitely ate too much food food and drinks over the weekend, I’m looking forward to getting stuck into the next phase of our @bodybybrando_gyms programming as prescribed.... One thing I’ve always advocated, is that you can’t and shouldn’t try to make up for lost time and or poor behaviours with excessive or high intensity training. I.e. bad weekends (or months) can’t be flogged out of you. The best thing you can do is just get started and maintain long term consistency over short intensity. Create positive and meaningful habits that will be adhered to. Shoot me a DM if you’re looking for a hand to get started

15.01.2022 How many success stories do you need to hear before you make your own? Throw yourself into the deep end - transform the way you look, move and feel! Just get started! #fitness #fitnessjourney #training

15.01.2022 TRAINING TIPS YOU SHOULD KNOW 1. Lift weights through a large range of motion so you do more stuff without breaking 2. Build an engine so you can enjoy life more 3. Learn new skills to keep your mind-muscle connection young 4. Do bendy stuff (loaded mobility) so you stay injury free.... If you have any other training tips, drop them in the comments! See more

14.01.2022 How to set up for a snatch vs a clean and jerk How to understand the movement and fix the common mistakes we see with beginner athletes

13.01.2022 How lifting heavier changes the workout and physiological adaptations If you’re someone who always picks the light option during a workout because you’d prefer to go fast, you’re missing out on a massive chunk of physiological adaptations. Fitness is essentially the ability to continually produce force under fatigue. ... In order to be fit, you’ve got to be able to produce force and you’ve got to be able to sustain in over long periods. The notion of lifting something heavy (relative to you) forces you to brace and support your midline using the valsalva manoeuvre, leading to a bunch of downstream effects that alter HR, gas exchange and therefore energy system. Long story short, it’s harder! However, Harder usually leads to better adaptations (when managed correctly) If you’re using a lighter weight just to finish your workouts faster than your friends or leaderboard, you may win the battle, but you’ll end up losing the war *** the term heavy is subjective. Mechanics > consistency > intensity will always ring true, however, this is targeted at those who do not follow progressive overload principles. . . . #lift #liftheavy #weightlifting #training #workout #crossfit #coach #athlete #sydney #newsouthwales See more

12.01.2022 Why do we promote getting deeper and increasing range of motion with our movements? Two reasons: 1. If we can produce force in large ranges during controlled situations, then we have a higher chance of producing force there in uncontrolled situations.... Said the other way, if we have never produced force in that range, if we find ourselves in that range one day (accident, sport, bad timing) we definitely won’t be able to produce force. >>> when muscles get stretched and pulled unwillingly, they snap! 2. Range and TUT are correlated with muscle tearing. Which sounds bad, but it doesn’t have to be. When muscles get pushed to their limits (controlled of course) they go through a destruction phase. If you allow them repair and rebuild, they’ll go through a construction phase and adapt to the stimulus by providing more density and strength. Meaning you can either do more things, or you can do the same things with less effort. Both of which you can chalk up as a win See more

11.01.2022 One of the greatest gifts you can give someone is the freedom of movement and the confidence to think and be themselves. I’m so stoked with what we have created @bodybybrando_gyms that allows us to do this everyday, with a culture that continues to grow (physically and metaphorically) Life is too short to waste the best years of your life feeling weak, sluggish and lacking the ability to express your true potential

10.01.2022 Are you training or competing? What’s the difference? Training is what you do today, in order to improve your performance in the future. Competing is when you’re aiming to get the best result and express your training.... Those who compete all the time will have limited adaptations (and often can be negative) because they aren’t looking into the future. The best athletes know when to train and work on creating the perfect stimulus for their desired adaptations. Novice or ego athletes will aim to compete every session in order to fulfil their superiority complex. Think about this next time you train. Will this benefit my long term goals and move me closer towards excellence. Or is it fulfilling my short term satisfaction and ego?

10.01.2022 Most of us find the beginning of the new year a "fresh start", a time to look back and see how last year went, and to think of what we want to achieve for the next one. We have some athletes who are rich in their athletic ability, but most of them didn’t start like that with us. They walked in as total beginners, learned the fundamentals in a safe and controlled environment and were held accountable to doing the things necessary to achieving their goal. Find out more here

07.01.2022 As we approach the final stretch of 2020, there are only a couple more opportunities left to crown Members of the Month! October at Waterloo, it was a smiling face we all know and love - the one and only Michael Lumley. He's been training with us for around 5 months now, and during that time he has achieved some incredible results - including losing over 5kg and dropping his body fat percentage by 5.6%! We had the privilege of asking him a few questions about his time at Bod...y By Brando. After hitting numbers like that in the first few months of training, we'd be silly not to sit down and find out more about him, his experience and what he loves most about training with us. 06.01.2022 Conditioning is not the same as cardio Conditioning is "conditioning" the body to become more adapted to a given stimulus, so that we can increase our work capacity for a given task. If you are "conditioned", you are in a state of readiness to tackle and complete a task. ... This can come in many forms, and not just mono-structural, cardiovascular endurance (running, rowing, ski-erg, bike) There is a complex interplay between strength and conditioning which is largely task dependant. The ideal state is to be conditioned across the 10 physical skills and be able to repeatedly produce force whilst under fatigue (depletion of energy). Once we know our capacity, we can begin to touch the symptoms and move the threshold to the right (increase). See more

01.01.2022 Christmas and New Years are around the corner! This time of the year it's pretty common to just let yourself eat and drink whatever you want. Celebrations are happening, BBQs are firing up and beers are flowing. Sometimes we can get carried away and it’s harder to return to our normal discipline.
