24.01.2022 I am a remedial massage therapist and yoga practitioner based in St Kilda, Melbourne I have been practicing remedial massage therapy and yoga for many years now. I have trained in various body work techniques and worked alongside a varying range of allied health professionals which has given me a wide range of experience and exposure. I am able to create the perfect treatment for any individual based solely on their specific needs and abilities. I have spent many years living... and traveling in India, the motherland and birth place of yoga. My personal yoga practice has been grounding for me for many years. A few years ago I returned to fulfill the long awaited desire to train as a yoga instructor. Yoga is so much more than just a physical practice. Yoga is a philosophy and a way of life. Although most of us probably aren’t able to immerse our selves fully in the yogic way of life due to the intense fast paced western world we live in today, it doesn’t mean we can’t take up at least some of the philosophies and practices in our daily lives. With my knowledge and experience I incorporate remedial techniques, yoga postures and breathing exercises to develop a personalized and individual treatment and plan. I am also able to offer introductory yoga on a one on one basis to give you the basic foundation and starting block so you may begin your own practice. My aim is to give you the tools and understanding to care better for your body with the assistance of treatment as needed. See more

16.01.2022 What is remedial Massage? Giving or intended as a remedy or cure. A remedial action is intended to correct something that is wrong or to improve a bad situation: Remedial exercises are intended to improve someone's health when they are ill Remedial massage is therapeutic but more than that, a multitude of modalities, techniques and exercises are used during a treatment to provide the client with the best possible outcome. ... Reducing pain, improving movement, joint function and bringing awareness back into the patient’s body and posture. Each therapist is different and employs different modalities and techniques. Special tests are sometimes conducted to determine possible nerve or vascular impingements. What I’m about as a therapist When it comes to body work treatment you must consider many factors to understand the individual body’s dynamics; Postural and functional. As a bodywork therapist I believe the first intervention is obviously a well taken care of body; through diet, exercise, stretching, good postural habits and an overall awareness of how we use our body in day to day life. Easier said than done though, right? Everyone is trying to pack more and more in to everyday and there’s never enough time. There never will be. The more time we have the more we fill it up. We don’t take enough of this precious time to care for our bodies and through this neglect we form bad postural habits, forget to stretch, forget to breathe, don’t know exercise enough; don’t drink enough water and most of all we never have the time to relax! Relaxation is not going to bed and sleeping Relaxation should not be thought of as a luxury we can’t afford. Relaxation is something we must feel every day in order to live a balanced life! There are many different ways to relax. You may enjoy listening to music, doing yoga, meditation, having a bath. Anything that brings you a little bit of peaceful You time. Massage is beneficial on so many levels! Massage not only treats sore and tired muscles but can alleviate pain, discomfort and leave you in a deep state of relaxation. Massage can fulfil many needs, physical and emotional. Allow your - self some You time To find out more and make a booking: Contact Sarah Trew Email: [email protected] Phone: 0401 950 490

12.01.2022 how qualified is your therapist??? A qualified and practicing Remedial massage therapist will have at least a diploma level education. To be be insured and accredited by private health funds a therapist must be registered with an Australian recognised association. To be registered, therapists have to stay up to date and current by completing annual workshops and courses.... Massage therapists don’t only learn the names and locations of muscles and how to massage them. There’s a lot more to it than that. As a student I had to first learn and understand the fundamentals and principles of physiology and anatomy and how they relate to each other, starting at a cellular level. Our understanding of human anatomy involved the entire body, not just the muscles and bones. Our depth of knowledge on the musculoskeletal system was not merely to memorize the names, locations and articulations of every bone and muscle, but also the anatomy of each individual bone and muscle. Right down to each curve and grove of a bone and the directional fibers, tendons, and sections of each muscle. We are then educated in a multitude of modalities and massage techniques. As a therapist’s we must also be capable of the following Understanding disease and illness. Managing people with various physical and intellectual needs. Research and review medical articles. How to manage and run a practice. Practicing under specific regulations and guide lines as well as complying with OHS standards Everything I’ve listed here is just an outline of some of the study undergone to become a remedial massage therapist. Unfortunately massage is not a regulated industry. Only Qualified therapists can join with a massage association. Being a member of a reputable association entitles the therapist to then be insured. A requirement of membership is to continue education in the body work field to stay current and up to date so you may always be providing the best treatment to your clients. Not all massage therapists are registered and are therefore not covered by insurance. This means it definitely won’t be and should not be covered by your private health insurance. Next time you receive a massage, consider the therapists depth of knowledge and education. Most qualified remedial therapists are passionate about what they do, and consider treatment to be more than just relaxation. Remedial massage is maintenance, correction and prevention for your body. Massage is more than it seems.

10.01.2022 Fascia - (Latin - meaning, band) The tissue that holds us together. Fascia is an important component of our body that needs to be taken care of just as much as tired, sore muscles and joints, and has a major role to play when correcting postural imbalance. Fascia is a binding sticky web made up of proteins (mainly collagen) which form tissue fibres. the first layer of fascia can be found just under the subcutaneous layer beneath our skin.... Fascial fibres attach, stabilise, enclose and separate muscles and internal organs. Fascia is the building material of ligaments and tendons. Fascia should always be considered and assessed when performing body work treatment, especially where injuries (old or new) have occurred. There is much study going on at the moment about the role fascia plays; its integrity and tensegrity. One day fascia may even be classified as its own body system. Watch this space #Fascia

03.01.2022 We are all aware of the benefits of ensuring that you are drinking enough water but did you know that water makes up a good portion of the spinal cord? Between ...every two vertebrae lies a disc, a doughnut-shaped ring much like a tire tube, which cushions the bone and acts as a shock absorber. This disc is made up of two parts: the outer ring, which is a flexible yet strong, and is filled with a gel-like material, and the inner ring, which is made up mostly of water. During the day our normal activities will obviously put body weight on these discs and the water is gradually squeezed out. When we sleep, the discs rehydrate, but only as long as there is enough water to rehydrate them. The discs also can reabsorb more water whenever the spine moves but again only as long as there’s available water. That inner water-filled ring is designed to take approximately 75 percent of the weight load on the spine. The outer ring, on the other hand, is supposed to carry only about 25 percent of the body’s weight. However, when there’s not enough water in the body to hydrate the discs, that inner ring deflates, forcing the outer ring to carry more weight than it should. Since the outer ring wasn’t designed for this, it can cause nerve pain, a bulging disc or even herniation.

01.01.2022 Taking care of your body is not only about nutrition and exercise. Take time to to nurture your body as well.
