25.01.2022 Rest. Ice. Compression. Elevation. One of your first treatments to treat pain and speed up healing and swelling after an injury is known as RICE. REST - Avoid putting weight or strain onto your injury and dont continue to play sports or exercise for at least 48 - 72 hours. Moving or weight bearing too soon can do more damage and resting will also help to prevent bruising.... ICE - Icing the area will reduce blood flow to the area to reduce the inflammation and swelling that causes pain, especially around a joint or tendon. Icing can also temporarily reduce nerve activity to relieve pain even further. COMPRESSION - Helps to minimise swelling by keeping fluids from gathering at the injury site. FITNESS & SKILL- Dont try an open water swim unless you are confident in your swimming ability and comfortable in the surf, youll have to swim past the impact zone and dive through waves.
