25.01.2022 Hey everyone, I know its been a while since we posted. But Im sure as most know, along with all gyms and PTs, I was forced to temporarily stop running Semi-Private PT at Mickys. It was a devastating blow at the time. I was extremely lucky that I had outdoor space at home & some amazing clients who were able to continue with 1 - 1 PT to get me through. BIG LOVE to those who were able to this.... Its been hard. I wont lie & say I held it together. Like many others...I had my moments. I drank, I ate & Ive probably watched everything on Netflix twice. All to compensate for a feeling of uncertainty - that I may lose something I worked my ass off to build. There was times of depression & doubt. Thankfully I have people in my life who helped me get through it, I have a lot of love for them. BUT this isnt a poor me post. I wanted to say this to bring light to some dark shit happening. People are suffering because they lost everything & we should come together & help each other as much as we can. My job isnt only about providing a service its about helping people. Im invested in them, I want them to succeed & Im always here for them. Come the 22nd I cant wait to be back doing what I love. Look out for each other! See you soon Brad - back at Mickys Fitness (& feeling like the guy in the pic below)

19.01.2022 THROWBACK THURSDAY // As we step back into the gym this week, I thought it timely to re-share the very first blog I posted here (nearly 2 years ago!). Be mindful of the amount of general stress you may be carrying as a result of whats going on around us atm. When reintroducing the physical stress of exercise, consider your bodys ability to recover. MY ADVICE.... Small steps people. Try not to get too excited & expect personal bests in the first week. Ease your way back into training & most importantly, listen to your body.

19.01.2022 This way to the long weekend! Have a good one & stay safe out there. Apologies for the gratuitous Arnie pic. Its been a while. ... Sorry, not sorry. Brad See more

18.01.2022 THE JEFFERSON CURL || A great loaded mobility drill for your posterior chain (all the muscles along the back of the body) with a focus on the hamstring. If you have tight hamstrings & back this is going to feel amazing! Choose an appropriate weight (dumbbell, kettlebell or barbell). Note: start light (not a lot is needed to begin with) & gradually move up as you improve.... Stand on a box or step with your toes on the edge. Holding your weight roll your head forward, tucking your chin to chest. Keeping your chin pinned in that position, round your upper back & slowly roll your spine forward (one vertebrae at a time). Hinge at the hips keeping your knees locked & legs straight. Keep folding forward until you can go no further Reverse the movement, unstacking one vertebra at a time, ensuring you keep your chin tucked. Repeat 8-10 times OR until you feel yourself loosen up. Enjoy!

17.01.2022 BALANCING YOUR APPROACH TO FITNESS // People love group fitness classes. Its a great social way to workout your cardiovascular system - like-minded folk pushing each other to achieve. BUT...(yep theres always a but)...if you spend ALL your training time doing just cardio, youre missing out on the other VITAL component to a balanced fitness routine...STRENGTH! The best way to build strength - the foundation to all movement - is by doing resistance training. ... I hear you saying "but I do Pump classes". Its important to understand that the reps & sets in these type of classes are still based around cardio adaptations to your body. Even if you load the pump bar up youre still not really addressing your functional strength. Lifting weights OR bodyweight training designed in the right rep range with the right amount of sets & (most importantly) the proper rest times, will build the strength needed to smash out your group fitness classes & most importantly reduce the chance of injury niggles. Im pretty passionate about this stuff so if you wanna pick my brain (or even argue the point) over a cuppa, Id be happy to oblige. Cheerio, Brad

16.01.2022 The force is strong in this one. Client Lyn getting it done midweek! Hard work pays off folks.

16.01.2022 Throwback to a Movember with my PT Mo-bros! We have a great workplace at Mickys Fitness & these guys are part of the reason why. This ongoing health crisis is something that will affect the livelihoods of all PTs & yep, thats worrying BUT its comforting to know we have the support of the Mickys crew.... Stay healthy out there folks...Cheers Brad

16.01.2022 Admit it...you do it too!

13.01.2022 NEW SESSIONS ADDED || Were excited to let you know that you can now train with us at 4pm every Monday through Thursday. Thats 36 time slots available per week! Im sure you can find one that suits your busy lifestyle.

13.01.2022 Its hard not to be driven by body image goals. Imagery of the ideal physique is all around us. This week...lets all try to work towards adjusting our mindset. Health over aesthetics.

13.01.2022 What is healthy? Theres no finite definition. Of course theres heaps of opinions out there about what it is but sometimes these views dont serve us very well. They make us compare ourselves against others or strive to be something that is unrealistic & out of our reach. And thats def not healthy. Bottom line.... EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT.... We come from different places, we have different genetic background & varying strengths/weakness/injuries etc. Ive seen females lift 4 times their body weight & unfit looking ppl smash a half marathon in better times than I could ever do! Point is...healthy doesnt have a look. Its a feeling. Go chase YOUR version of healthy & OWN it! Over to you & if I can help, give me a holler. Brad

13.01.2022 Been thinking youd like your life to be different? Change IS possible. Pluck up the courage & go for it in 2020!

13.01.2022 SEATED CABLE ROW // The seated cable row is a great functional strength exercise for the back. Whilst it primarily works the upper back muscles, the forearm, upper arm, bicep, tricep, hamstrings & glute muscles are also used as stabilisers. Start by sitting on the platform with bent knees. Lean fwd & grab the cable attachment (triangle handle or bar dependent on target area). Move yourself into a position on the seat where your legs remain slightly bent, your arms are ...outstretched & your back is super straight. Brace your abdominals & pull the handle toward your belly button whilst squeezing your shoulder blades together Return the handle slowly forward under tension to full stretch. Repeat for the desired number of reps TIPS Remember to keep your back straight even when youre traveling forward. (think of hinging at your hips). Keep your chest popped up so you avoid rounding your upper back. Try not to use the momentum of the row by leaning the torso backward ie when pulling the cable in, dont move your back past the 90 degree mark. Big love to Simone Stabb for allowing us to take pics of her for this demo.

12.01.2022 For some of us, the thought of having a personal trainer can seem like a ridiculous luxury. And I get it, some folk simply cannot afford the extra expense after paying all the bills. But for others, it might simply be a matter of reassessing your goals & re-aligning your spending priorities. Coz lets face it, if we want something bad enough, say a new outfit, new phone, a holiday - well most likely find a way to justify paying for it & then figure out a way to save OR make... extra more money to purchase it. So I challenge you to ask yourself.... HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT: your injury/pain to go away to have more energy to feel strong & confident every day to improve your long term health to love the way you look & feel again to be happy/content An investment in your health will generally save you money in the longer term too. Set the goal & go find your best YOU.

12.01.2022 WELCOME BACK to SEMI-PRIVATE PT From Monday 22nd June, were excited to be offering 28 sessions a week back at the Mickys Fitness Original Gym. Weve made some small changes to our service offering to make training more accessible in the current climate & to ensure your safety.... 1) TIMETABLE - weve reduced the number of sessions per week until we get a feel for initial demand. Were hoping we can get back to our original schedule ASAP but for now we apologise if your fave time is not available. 2) SESSION SIZE - for safety reasons we have reduced the session size from 3 to 2 ppl. This will enable us to to do the required social distancing within the Mickys environment & work within government restrictions. Hopefully it will also make you feel safer. 2) PRICING - in light of the current climate, weve reduced our pricing until AUG 31st & were also allowing clients to take up just one session a week instead of the usual 2. We will also now be operating on a week to week system i.e. no ongoing commitment, so hopefully this is a bit more flexible for those who are still experiencing levels of uncertainty. Pricing is as follows: $70 - 2 x 45 min session $40 - 1 x 45 min session 3) PAYMENT - to keep costs to a minimum we have abandoned our automated direct debit system. Wed appreciate payment on the night of your session. Cancellation policy still applies. 4) BOOKINGS - existing clients can still use the online booking system. NEW CLIENTS - wed love to talk to you about an initial consultation/assessment/induction. If you have any questions at all pls dont hesitate to msg or phone me for a chat. See you Monday! Brad

09.01.2022 Tiger impressions were the order of the day this week! No, not really. Just my way of motivating my Semi-Private PT client Gary to squeeeeeeze his glutes. No point in just lifting your hips in a Barbell Glute bridge. If you want toit buns, you gotta squeeze them in haaaaard when you hit the top.... Always here to keep you entertained! Enjoy your Friday & have a top weekend. Brad

08.01.2022 Upper body goals!! Happy Straya Day!

07.01.2022 New Years Day - a great time to make a change to the status of your health & fitness right? Its absolutely clear on the calendar when you need to begin & provides a mental fresh start. YES? Unfortunately NO. Let me tell you why I think NYs resolutions can be a waste of time. Because WHY wait for that ONE day? Just another day of the year to start/put off your health goal. A day that only comes once every 365 days!... Procrastinating will only lead to excuses for giving up & changing your goals. Its starts TODAY, in fact it started yesterday!! If you want to change, do it NOW. Create a healthier mind set instead of waiting for News Years Day, or Monday, or after Easter, or when the holidays are over. Do it NOW! Need some help with mindset? Its all part of the BMPT Semi-Private PT service.

05.01.2022 PT INSIGHTS // Last year was a big year for me! In February, quite honestly, I was ready to walk away from Personal Training. Dont get me wrong, I was getting great results with my clients but the business just wasnt growing as Id hoped. I wasnt in a very financially positive position & naturally that has an impact on job satisfaction. I decided to give it one last crack & made some massive changes, which included transitioning from 1:1 PT to a SemiPrivate (small group) ...model. Long story short it worked & Im still here! This was a tough ask. It felt like starting over & was truthfully a very stressful & demanding time. My training & nutrition suffered & I took less care of my personal needs than I should have. My holiday to Thailand helped in August but by the end of last year I was burnt out. My 2-week break before coming back for 2020 became 3 weeks because I was very sick. Essentially my body needed to get all this out of its system as soon as I stopped & took a big breath. I preach balance a lot to my client base & admittedly sometimes I lose sight of that myself. This year is all about balance for me. Taking the time I need to look after myself is important & we should all make that time because a healthier body & mind will reflect on everything around you in your life & that is what I want this year. Balance.

05.01.2022 Giving the middle finger to cardio today.... #liftingonly #mondaycardiosux #beardsdontdotreadmills

04.01.2022 Theres so many reasons why its good for you to get sweaty. Heres just a few... 1 DETOXIFICATION - our bodies werent designed to handle the volume of toxicity we are exposed to today. Infrared saunas can help stimulate cells to release heavy metals through sweat. 2 MUSCLE RECOVERY - heat can help to relax muscles & ease tension & soreness throughout the body. Additionally, increased blood circulation delivers oxygen-rich blood to muscles so they can recover faster.... 3 STRESS RELIEF - infrared saunas promote relaxation by helping to balance the bodys stress hormones. Additionally, sauna use increases endorphins, the happiness hormones! 4 SKIN HEALTH - the skin is our largest detoxification organ. A sauna session can help cleanse the skin by improving circulation & shedding toxins through sweat. Increased blood circulation may improve acne, eczema, psoriasis, burns, & cuts. 5 WEIGHT LOSS - sauna therapy increases body temperature which requires your body to work harder to lower your core temp.Your body burns calories which can result in weight loss when coupled with a healthy diet & lifestyle. 6 IMMUNE HEALTH - Saunas make your body heat up the same way it would if you had a fever, helping your body to heal itself. Several studies have documented that the deep elimination of toxins & waste improves overall immune function & resistance to illness. Its a great idea to incorporate sauna therapy into your weekly routine. We are lucky to have a few close by. I can recommend the infrared sauna at Tippydog & Ive also used the dry heat one at Eltham Leisure Centre. Im sure you can find find one that suits your needs & budget. Embrace the sweat!
