21.01.2022 8 Week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Course (MBSR) in February 2021 Life is constantly changing. Knowing this, how do you want to live?... What really matters to you; what do you spend your attention on and really how is that working out? How is your health, physically, emotionally and mentally? Now is the time to re-balance. 8 week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Course beginning Sunday the 7th of February 2021 Cost $550 $500 for repeat participants 12 spaces available To Register : e-mail [email protected] or ring 0437639999 Quentin will be facilitating an 8 week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course starting on Sunday the 7th of February, 1.30-4pm in South Perth. On the 6th of March there will be a one-day retreat held at the beautiful Star Swamp reserve in North Beach. The course is based on the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) model developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn Ph.D in 1979, who helped to pioneer mindfulness into mainstream society. MBSR brings the principles of mindfulness into everyday life by teaching specific skills and practices that can be incorporated into daily life to help break cycles of anxiety, stress, unhappiness and exhaustion. The MBSR course is suitable for everyone, regardless of age, health, gender or religious beliefs. Mindfulness works, however you have to practice it, rather that think about it, read about it or study it. It can only be known authentically from the inside out. The sessions include: lying down body scan, gentle mindful yoga, walking meditation and sitting meditation (chairs are available). Home practice recordings are included in the course fees and you receive these at the start of the course. The more you can practice at home the more you will get out of it. The MBSR course is one of the most clinically studied meditation courses available, with there being 30 years of well documented evidence based studies. Here is one example: https://www.memory-key.com//mindfulness-meditation-trainin. After 8 weeks practicing mindfulness meditation, measurable changes occurred in brain regions associated with memory and emotion. Brain images of 16 participants in an 8-week mindfulness meditation program, taken two weeks before and after the program, have found measurable changes in brain regions associated with memory, sense of self, empathy and stress. Specifically, they showed increased grey-matter density in the left hippocampus, posterior cingulate cortex, temporo-parietal junction, and cerebellum, as well as decreased grey-matter density in the amygdala. Similar brain scans of a control group of non-meditators (those on a waiting list for the program) showed no such changes over time.

11.01.2022 The Food Forest We are very excited about our latest project here at sachaboodja.com During the Summer of 2016-17 we began to research mediterranean/ semi ari...d and desert species suitable to use in a Food Forest. We have also included some species that fall outside these climate zones that will require extra care until they (and the micro-climates within the food forest) are established, for example Avocados and Moringa, (neither of which are wild about frost, especially when they are young). There is a wealth of plant species from drylands all over the world (including some that are endemic to the area) that are edible, medicinal or useful in other ways, with many possessing excellent nutritional values. To begin we selected an area where there is an old diversion drain and although it is not on the contour with some minimal earthworks, we were able to make it work as a swale. This involved building new berms across the drain itself to catch and hold the water, with overflows into the next section. We chose this site to start because of low input costs, its manageable size and also as the drain comes into our property from the neighbors sheep paddock in heavy rain large amounts of sheep manure are washed in and caught in the swales bringing a increase in fertility. For years now this section has produced the best crop of weeds, with many deep rooted, soil opening plants such as wild radish. So we thought to make use of all that extra fertility. Once the earthworks and site preparation where completed we staked out the positions for the climax trees. After the first rains of autumn we planted a mixed cover crop of white lupins, lucerne and broad beans, planted so thickly that there was no space for the weeds to grow. This seems to have worked really well, with the lupins and broad beans forming a thick cover. The Lucerne is a bit mixed but should put on much more growth in Spring forming a perennial ground cover as the annuals die down. These are all nitrogen fixing plants and will further add to the fertility. We also planted the nurse tree species, Albizia, Acacia and Moringa, though some of the Acacia and Moringa will remain as part of the climax forest. As much as possible we are growing from seed and now that Winter is coming to an end it is time to begin propagating the trees, shrubs, herbs, and ground covers. If you like our post please share it!

07.01.2022 Body Mind Yoga Closing It is with great sadness that we are closing down all classes at Body Mind Yoga until further notice, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We feel that although spread of the disease is still in the early stages and chances of infection are low, it is better to be safe for ourselves and everyone in our community and "flattening the curve" early on is of great benefit to all. So you can continue your practice at home, until we can come back to class, we will be... putting audio's of yoga and meditation on the website regularly and will eventually do some video in the future. Please give us any feedback on the audio's so that we can improve them for you and if you have any themes or body issues you would like us to focus on send us an email. We hope you enjoy the audio classes and please share them with anyone who you think may benefit. Feel free to email us or connect through Facebook if you have any questions or concerns. Take care and much love Quentin and Bhumi

07.01.2022 The Journey Mary Oliver One day you finally knew what you had to do, and began, though the voices around you kept shouting their bad advice --... though the whole house began to tremble and you felt the old tug at your ankles. "Mend my life!" each voice cried. But you didn't stop. You knew what you had to do, though the wind pried with its stiff fingers at the very foundations, though their melancholy was terrible. It was already late enough, and a wild night, and the road full of fallen branches and stones. But little by little, as you left their voices behind, the stars began to burn through the sheets of clouds, and there was a new voice which you slowly recognized as your own, that kept you company as you strode deeper and deeper into the world, determined to do the only thing you could do -- determined to save the only life you could save. 04.01.2022 Wow, what a term of yoga! From our perspective the most unusual term we have ever had in our 23 years of teaching. From coming along to class and enjoying your company to moving to audio downloads and home schooling two teenagers. Hopefully with time and when all returns to the new normal we will once again be back in class teaching. We hope you are coping well with changing times and taking good care of yourselves. This is a good time for many to be quiet and connect with t...he more simple things in life. Have a wonderful Easter and keep happy, safe and peaceful. Even though the term has come to an end we will continue to put up more audio classes each Monday. I have made a page in the web-site called Yoga Audios so that each week we will add new tracks to the list of previous offerings. This week 4 new audios tracks have been added. Bhumi's class is in two parts. The first track is called "Bhumi smiling yoga class" and "Bhumi smiling meditation" is the second track. My (Quentin) class also has 2 parts which should be played consecutively. These are titled "Quentin yoga class 3 part a" and the second track "Quentin yoga class 3 part b with meditation". To listen and download for free please click the following link https://www.bodymindyogaperth.com.au/home-practice/ To download onto your computer, firstly click the above link and then right click on the play arrow and choose the "save audio as" option. From there you can transfer to any device so you can listen in a relaxed environment. We hope you enjoy the audio classes and please share them with anyone who you think may benefit. Wild Geese Mary Oliver You do not have to be good. You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting. You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves. Tell me about your despair, yours, and I will tell you mine. Meanwhile the world goes on. Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers. Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again. Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting -- over and over announcing your place in the family of things.

04.01.2022 If your interested in coming you will need to book your place by the 7th of October - please e-mail me at [email protected]
