25.01.2022 Lower Back Pain( LBP ). Whenever we hear that a lot of people automatically think, "check the clients lifting technique", treat the erector spinea group, work on glutes, quadratus lumborum or do quadrant test for discogenic issue. These are good places to start, they produce LBP. However sometimes with some simple testing we find that it's the major hip flexors that are the culprit... Psoas major and minor( let's call it just Psoas for simplicity ), are major primer movers in... hip flexion ( illiacus is also involved but we will look at that at a later date ). When looking at the attachments of Psoas you will see that the origin is L1-L5 vertebral bodies and insertion is the lesser trochanter of the femur. If Psoas becomes tight or dysfunctional it can impact on the L1-L5 vertebral bodies causing an increase in anterior pelvic tilt. Hence the onset of LBP. So if you are an athlete who squats, lunges, deadlifts, runs track or hard on game day and you are pulling up sore with LBP maybe you need a Myotherapist to work on Psoas for you. As a side note, prolonged sitting can cause dysfunction of Psoas, so desk bound people, students studying for long periods can also suffer from shortening of Psoas which in turn leads to LBP. The attached video shows a "Psoas Release", yes it can be painful but the benefits out way the small amount of treatment discomfort. See more



24.01.2022 Congratulations Mathew Jones on your WFF 1st place finish in the men's class 2. Mathew had to push through a knee injury while preparing for this comp and was able to maintain and improve his already fantastic physique by modifying his leg day workouts. Just shows you with hard work, will power and a commitment to be the best, you can achieve great things! Well done Jonesy!!

22.01.2022 MEDIAL ELBOW PAIN (Golfers elbow) A lot of people suffer from medial elbow pain. People such as golfers, weight lifters, carpenters working with hammers and drills etc. Quite often the pain is felt at the attachment site of the forearm flexors and unfortunately a lot of the time it has an insidious onset meaning a gradual build up. With this in mind it can take a little time to settle down but it is definitely something a Myotherapist can treat with great results. ( note: there are other muscles that can cause elbow pain, this is just one area).The video shows very simple passive and active treatment of the forearms to reduce medial elbow pain.

21.01.2022 This is a short video of Jeff Valle who is a regular client at Body Refinement Myotherapy . This is 4x 180kg squats. It is a PB for Jeff. He came in to Body Refinement Myotherapy a couple of days before this lift for some general maintenance and some positive affirmation that he could achieve this PB, as he was very keen to get at least get 2 reps out. Previously he had lifted 180 kg for 1 rep. He smashed that!! At Body Refinement we're here to help.



21.01.2022 Do you ever get that feeling of discomfort/ pain in your lower back? In particular do you get that LBP( lower back pain), to the left or right of the base of the spine? If so you could be dealing with an SIJ( sacroiliac joint ) Dysfunction. It can be annoying or painful ( generally both), as it can make getting out of bed difficult, walking or running uncomfortable, getting out of the car painful. The worst part however is that can affect the way you squat, deadlift, lunge.( this is unacceptable). If you find you have you are having some sort of discomfort, find a good Myotherapist to help you out. They will test, assess, treat ands give corrective exercises to help resolve the issue. ( note this is only one example of what can cause LBP, there are many other things it could be. That's why Myo's test)

19.01.2022 This is why i push you all to exercise. All the soft tissue work is great for a short term benefit but exercise and postural correction will benefit you greatly long term. ( His summary at the end is spot on )



17.01.2022 Here is the follow up video on treating subscapularis. Due to the location of subscapularis it is not the nicest muscle to have treated but the improvement it gives to external rotation is well worth the treatment.

13.01.2022 There's been a change of name to Body Refinement Massage Therapy. We are now Body Refinement Myotherapy. The people are still the same, the dedication to helping people with muscular dysfunction and pain still remains our number one goal. Along with the name change we have a new Myotherapist on board. John Rose graduated from RMIT University and brings a lot of new skill sets into the team. This allows us to open Friday's 9am to 5pm( over summer) and Saturdays 8am to 12pm( permanent shift ) Thanks for everyone's support over the past year it's been fantastic. 02.01.2022 KNEE PAIN Knee pain can be irritating at best, debilitating at worst. Everyone at some stage whether you lift, run or even climb ladders can suffer from knee pain. Due to the common attachment points of the quadriceps ( rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, vastus intermedius) to the knee ( patella), pain can be referred into the knee. It can refer to the inside of the knee ( medial ) to the outside ( lateral ) or to the superior and inferior ( above or below ) ...aspects of the patella. If you suffer from any of these symptoms then massaging the quads can be quiet beneficial. The video shows how a Myotherapist can help lessen the knee pain.
