23.01.2022 BENCH PRESS is not my favourite exercise! WHY you ask, I find it hard to increase my weight on the bar because it needs to be in such small increments. Those that know me, know Im impatient especially with things I have control over, sometimes not a bad thing! . 50kg for 4 x 8reps I increased to 55kg in this session but only got 4reps...WIP!! ... . 21.01.2022 Why eating less is NOT the answer . During these trying times, some people get bored in the house because they are refraining from going outside. They tend to eat more than they usually do because of boredom and cravings. As a result, they gain weight! .... Now they start to think of getting into diet and exercise. Some may think that not eating breakfast is the answer to make their weight loss journey faster or doing an excessive amount of cardio. . Girl, you're wrong, you only need to monitor the calories you're taking in. Eat healthy and well-balanced food. Make a time and schedule your workout and make it a habit. . Ive been really working on my relationship with food the last couple of months and have noticed a massive change with my thought process around food. For example, before I eat something thats not in my plan for the day I think to myself is that going to make me feel happy and make my body feel good OR will it make me feel heavy, bloated, and regret eating it? . We all know that eating a healthy, well-balanced, nutritious ...diet is good for us, but yet we still eat highly processed sugary foods that make us feel sluggish. It may make you feel good in the moment but that doesnt last long. . We cant be perfect with our diet all the time, we are allowed to enjoy our favourite foodsI certainly do! However, making sure your diet is 80% whole foods and 20% foods you love is a great place to start. . Here are some reasons to eat healthier foods at least 80% of the time: - High intake of processed carbohydrates causes blood sugar levels to rise and fall dramatically, this can lead to low energy and irritability - Eliminating food groups entirely from your diet may cause essential nutrient deficiencies - Improves Immune System - Reduces the risk of diseases - Positively affects your mood - Increases focus - much more... . I hear all too often that people (females mostly) think that eating low calories is the only way to lose weight/cms. 1200 calories per day seems to be the magic number. Well let me tell you...even a child should eat more than 1200 calories per day. .... STOP depriving your body of the all important nutrients it needs to function every day! Be kind to your body. It has got you where you are today! . I havent always eaten 2400 calories per day (average over the week). Its been a long road of ups and downs to get me here and I intend to increase that amount without putting on more body fat. So far so good . 18.01.2022 New Year: A chapter of our new beginning. All of us are aware of how challenging this year has been for us. Our health becomes our worry because of this pandemic. Some have lost a loved one because of it, and whether we like it or not, fear has been walking with us all throughout the year. Due to this feeling, most of us have taken this opportunity to start being mindful of our own health. Which could be a good memory that we'll remember for 2020. 17.01.2022 Want to workout at home but don’t know where to start? . A lot of people are deciding not to return to a gym post-lockdown for various reasons. Some have purchased enough equipment to keep them going at home, some prefer the privacy of their own home and the convenience of training in their garage. I have many clients come to see me in my garage because it saves them having to pay for a gym membership as well as their PT sessions and of course the privacy that come...s with it. . Try this 45 minute workout on your own or with a friend: . 4 sets of 12-15 reps per exercise Superset A1 & A2, B1 & B2, C1 & C2 60 second rest per superset . A1 - Counterbalance Squat A2 - Bent Over Row B1 - Goblet Squat B2 - Lat Pushdown C1 - Static Lunges C2 - Single Arm Row D1 - Kettlebell Swings (finisher) . If you don’t have dumbbells or kettlebells at home, use any household item that will add weight to the exercise. For example, dumbbell replacement could be cans of food, bottles full of water, etc. You could even use bands for most of the exercises. Bands are cheap to buy and very useful. . 16.01.2022 HEALTHY EATING doesnt come easy to all of us! Some, like myself for example, need to work hard to eat nutritious food. If I could I would live on pizza, burgers, donuts, ice cream and chocolate . I LOVE how healthy, nutritious food makes me feel in mind and body so I make sure I eat 80% whole foods each and every day. I still get to have my cake and eat it too but I pick my times when this is appropriate. . Being a female, I also need to look after my hormones wh...ich is something Im currently working on with a Nutritionist. . This is my typical training day meals, they keep me full and satisfied. Im a simple cook but as long as it tastes good and is nourishing what does it matter! Meal 1: Protein Pancakes (pre-training) Meal 2: Beef mince, sweet potato, vegetables & avocado (post-training) Meal 3: Apple & Peanut butter Meal 4: Chicken, Beans, Pasta & Seeds Meal 5: Berry smoothie with almond milk, peanut butter and protein powder . If we want to start a healthier journey for 2021, let's not delay it anymore and start NOW! ... I hope you did well on our Week 4 Workout Challenge part 1. Because it's our week 4 (Part II) Workout Challenge today which we will call it: "Chest Quest". Did you know that when you workout your chest muscles it would allow you to burn MORE calories?! Yes, it's because it has big muscles that can carry more weights your shoulders and arms are involve so it allows you to exercise your body all at once. Amazing, right? The following exercises are made to build stronger chest, shoulders & arms: 1. Bench Press 2. Push Ups 3. Incline Bench Press 4. Chest Flyes Of course, you should complete 4-5 sets, 12-15 reps. 10.01.2022 FEEL GOOD FRIDAY - STRENGTH - NUTRITION & ITS BENEFITS!! . Recently Ive started powerlifting instead of my usual bodybuilding training. Its great for the body and the mind. Im working with a nutritionist to get my hormones back working how they should post-competition because I was not doing what I should by myself #accountability .... WHAT we eat and WHEN we eat has a huge impact on how we feel in body and mind! Eating the right foods pre and post training will help us perform efficiently and give us the strength we need to perform the desired activity, e.g. weight training. Currently Im eating most of my daily carbohydrate allowance around my training session (pre & post) on training days. Non-training days my carbs are mostly at dinner time (helps you sleep). . Eating an adequate amount of macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins and fats) provides us with the strength (and energy) to fuel a training session and helps us get through the day! . 05.01.2022 FEEL GOOD FRIDAY - BODY IMAGE . I wanted to get real with you all for a minute. Most people think they need to be lean to be healthy and if they arent lean then they are fat!! Well, I was one of them unfortunately but there were a few things going on for me there.... . 1. I competed last September in a Figure competition (aka Bodybuilding) so was being judged on how my body looked, how lean I was essentially as this brings out the muscle symmetry . 2. The foods I was eating was making me think poorly of myself because I felt guilty eating it once I had jumped on the scales the next morning . 3. Ive always felt like Im being judged with how I look because of my passion for health and fitness. This actually puts a lot of pressure on a person and it can go either way...obsessed with being lean so not eating or eating too much to self-sabotage. . As Ive mentioned in a previous post, Ive been working on my relationship with food and with how I see myself in the mirror which has been amazing. Im eating what I believe is my maintenance calories for some time now, Im the HEAVIEST IVE EVER BEEN and Im happy . Ive still got work to do but I feel amazing and I couldnt have done it without the help of my amazing nutritionist @superlan13 and the support of my partner @olly__key .
