25.01.2022 Schooling from home, learning what this new life looks like for now. Taking every new day as just that. Readjusting, enjoying the gold, and letting the not so gold moments slip away as learning curves. ....... Still trying to fit some work in, and still trying to work out what that looks like now too. ........ Holding fast to faith, hope, and the abundance of love we can show and receive, despite the circumstances. These three things are crucial.... . . . #homeschool #covid19 #faith #hope #love #belong #trust #nourish #bodytruthnutrition #fearfullyandwonderfullymade See more

24.01.2022 #beetrootmuffins ....... Yum. Still refining the recipe. I grated the beetroot this time, but think Id pure it next. Ill also try it with canned beetroot to see if it works. .......... They kind of turned out like red velvet cakes ....... BUT Did you know you can eat beetroot leaves? And that theyre full of vitamins? B6, Vit C, Iron, Magnesium... all good stuff to further strengthen that immune system. The beetroot is full of this stuff too, so utilise the whole plant and youve not only saved some money, (by not throwing food in the bin) but youve got some nutrient rich fibre in your belly. ....... 24.01.2022 I cant tell you how many times Ive heard this said in the last few weeks. Its coming out of the mouths of clients, of friends, and of acquaintances... and you know what... I have said this myself too. ....... I LOVE chocolate, and as the weather gets increasingly colder, it becomes a time to snuggle down and grab the easy and satisfying food items, and for a lot of us, especially busy mummys who havent eaten a decent meal, and are eating on the run, it feels like its a ...good option. And sometimes it is! But also, sometimes, its not. Sometimes it can be an automatic reaction to stress, or sometimes it has become a routine, or a habit. ....... Now, theres no judgement here, a lot of us have been there. Chocolate should totally be part of your diet. Maybe not every single day of the year, and maybe not a block in one go, but a few pieces here and there are a perfectly balanced part of a varied diet. ....... If you feel like you cant control it, or youre constantly reaching for the chocolate when you dont even fancy it, have a reflection time on why you feel that way. Do you feel guilty for eating chocolate? Are you in a vicious cycle of not investing time to feed yourself well, so you reach for the quick easy option to get you through the day? Do you fancy something sweet but dont know what else to go for? ...... I personally change it up. Here are a few sweet chocolatey options to get you thinking rather than just reaching, being a little mindful might be all it takes to help you consider if you really fancy chocolate or not. ....... hot cocoa- cocoa powder + honey + hot milk stewed apple with cinnamon (and choc chips if I actually want some chocolate. dark chocolate instead of milk (not quite as moorish but still ) Cocoa bliss balls frozen fruit pureed into icecream with added cocoa or melted choc drizzled over the top. try some dark chocolate with sugar and antioxidants. ....... And for goodness sake, if you fancy a few pieces of chocolate.... eat a few pieces of chocolate without feeling guilty about it!!!!! . . . #chocolatelovers #winterfood #enjoyit #guiltfree #bodytruth #bodytruthnutrition See more

23.01.2022 Theres a whole lot of #covid19 social media encouraging the learning of new things whilst in lockdown; the development of new skills, the opportunity to learn how to cook, grow a side hustle, change your life, learn to eat better, workout more, grow an online business etc. ....... Whilst I agree that its a great time to do life differently, it also comes with a heck of a lot of challenges learning to just live in this new way. ....... If, like me, you have young children at... home, your focus is likely going to be on staying emotionally stable and supporting your children through this time. ....... I think its worth noting that you dont actually need to be doing MORE. We actually have the opportunity to do less, for the first time in forever. We dont need to have the added pressure of being told we need to continue our insane lifestyles. Enough is enough!!!! ....... How about we discourage burnout, encourage rest, lift up family and friendship units, and use this time to BE! And if you would LIKE to do something extra in that mix; if you have the time, energy, or inclination, then go for it. Just dont, for one moment, think you are any less incredible because you didnt. . . . #selfcare #familytime #encouragerest #bestill #nomoreburnout #nourishnotpunish #learntoloveyourversionofyou #highachievers #youreenough #bodytruthnutrition See more

23.01.2022 One common barrier people will often commiserate about in eating a nourishing diet is COST. This very thorough and informative article by Foost will give you some great info and tips on budget friendly ways to shop and cook

23.01.2022 @repost . Winter is all about hot tea, keeping warm and avoiding or recovering from the common and as a new added bonus keeping safe from other less desirable ....... What irks me a bit though, is all of these articles on how to avoid weight gain in winter when in actual fact, a bit of weight gain in the colder months is actually quite natural, and in fact helpful!... ....... exposure to sun = melatonin. melatonin = OR more food to give us energy to stay awake! (Just think hibernation). Also... more food to give us more energy to keep us warm... and a bit of storage (ie fat) to ensure thermostat regulation. ....... So next time you start stressing that those jeans are feeling a tad tighter than they did in summer, just remember that God planned for our bodies to self regulate, and go ahead and nourish yourself how you see fit. ....... out and get yo self some ....... 21.01.2022 Chronic illness can be debilitating at the best of times, but with the threat of further illness, increases in anxiety, changes in routine, inability or fear of access to medical care, its an extra layer on top of an already unstable situation. ....... I know that Ive struggled. My condition has flared since the beginning of iso. The extra pressure, the overwhelm, the change in routine, the not wanting to visit the dr, the heightened anxiety. The loss of headspace. The incr...eased needs of my children. ....... Whilst for some, its a great time to improve dietary habits, to get more exercise etc, for others, now is not a good time for health. At all. ....... My point here is to increase awareness of chronic illness, and spell out how much silent conditions can impact peoples ability to cope and function well. You would be very surprised how many brave faces are hiding silent pain. ....... For any battlers out there, I see you, and I support you. ....... Our bodies are incredible, but sometimes it just doesnt feel like it, and at times like this, its really hard to stay positive and stay well. ....... My professional advice is to lower your expectations of what you should be achieving right now, and just focus on the little things you can be thankful for. If you can, spend time outside. Move your body as much as is possible for you, and try and have some sort of routine, so eating and taking medication is a regular and steadfast activity. ....... 21.01.2022 Over a year ago, I posted this to kick off Body Truth on Insta. ....... A year on, and ALOT has changed! But one thing that remains is my belief in the ethos I set out with, right at the beginning. ....... Body Truth has always been about encouraging individuals to persue health over weight, nourishment over diets, and end judgement of bodies for themselves and others.... ....... I now work predominantly with families and children to support fussy eaters (check out @fussytofreefoodies) but this ethos has never been more important, especially in this #covid climate. ....... How we teach our children how to eat and care for their bodies will have an incredibly long lasting impact on the rest of their lives. It did on mine. ....... 20.01.2022 Putting on my big girl pants means stepping out into bravery. It means doing that thing that you dont want to do, even though you know its in your best interests to do so. Its going to the dr to get something checked, its getting that blood test, its going to that counseling session, its getting an early night, its being assertive and voicing your opinions, its making a phone call. Its eating those regular meals, its doing that workout session (or not doing it). .......... Its so many things. ....... 20.01.2022 COVID-19 is making a momentous impact on how we conduct our lives, so for now, to be safe, and confidently put social distancing into effect, we are going online! ....... Whilst this may not work for everyone, Im confident that it can still be effective and beneficial for all nutrition consults, childrens feeding assessments, and food sessions for individuals, and families with fussy eaters. ....... If you decide that online food therapy sessions are for you, you will recei...ve a foodie package in the mail to assist in making your in-home experience just as great as the in-clinic ones ....... 20.01.2022 Over the last year or so I have had many questions from friends and family on the strong stance I take in regard to #healthateverysize and the #nondietapproach to health. ....... I totally understand why people question me, and it has been a very steep, but also a very science based learning curve for me too. ....... Im not anti weight-loss, but Im not going to make weight loss a focus in ANY situation.... ....... WHY? ....... Well, the research is extremely clear, that restrictive diets are not only a psychological minefield, but also not effective (in fact can increase negative chronic health issues) in improving long term health outcomes. ....... Of course some people go on diets and they lose weight. Some keep it off, some put it back on. Its a personal, and highly genetic based situation. Some people will go on living their life, some people will suffer from debilitating anxiety and disordered eating (and this is why I advocate so strongly!!! ) ....... What I would like to highlight, is that, as a health professional, HEALTH should always be the priority, not some aesthetic goal that will actually put your health in jeopardy. ....... If your looks are presiding over how well you eat (what you eat, how often you eat, how you are emotionally after you eat), how much you move your body, and how you perceive food, I would encourage you to rethink your priorities. ....... If you have put on a lot of weight in a short time, go and see your gp and get some blood tests done. This is not a time to prescribe a weight-loss diet for yourself, and you certainly shouldnt feel ashamed. ....... We only get one body, and we need to care for it. By caring for it I dont mean making it smaller (though this sometimes happens when our health improves). I mean: Learn how to eat what your body needs. Learn that all foods are morally equal. Learn that there is no superiority in body size (even if media tells us otherwise) And learn what works for YOU! Not celebrities, or your neighbour, or that hot chick at the gym. ....... I hope Im making sense Eat well friends. . . . #intuitiveeating #nourishnotpunish #liveinthemoment #incrediblebodies #strongbodies #learntoloveyourversionofyou #bodytruthnutrition #belong #trust #nourish #allfoodsfit #endthejudgement #endbodyhate #noshame #fearfullyandwonderfullymade

16.01.2022 Nutrition and feeding sessions are all complete for this crazy, but wonderful year! . It’s been such an honour working with all the families and individuals throughout 2020, and considering the year that’s been, I’m incredibly thankful! . I’ve been a bit quiet on here lately, just focusing on my clients and working on streamlining, but I’m taking some time away from the clinic and feeding sessions, as well as all the social media.... . I’m excited about some new ‘stuff’ that’s in the pipeline for 2021, including a new look to my media pages, so stay tuned. . For now, I’m going offline to enjoy my family and spend some unscreened time with my beautiful boys. . I’ll be back on here early in the new year, but until then, have a wonderful Christmas, a blessed new year, and hopefully, some time with loved ones. . 15.01.2022 Who else was taught that they had to eat everything on their plate before they were allowed dessert? . Who was forced to sit at the table until theyd eaten their grey overcooked peas? . Who was told that their food would be sent to children who appreciated it if they didnt eat everything given to them?!?... . Hunger and fullness cues are a crucial lesson to learn in childhood for our bodies to sit at a healthy weight, and to avoid a negative relationship with food (among other things!!). . Make a conscious effort to support your child learn when they are hungry and full by offering regular meals without constantly feeding your child (ie, allowing hunger), and not forcing them to eat if they say they have had enough. 10.01.2022 Ive just written another blog... in such crazy times, I hope this is helpful ....... So how can we help our fussy eaters to adjust to these changes, without their diets consisting of only a few foods that are eaten on repeat. Following are just a few steps to aiding your fussy eater in this tricky time. Firstly, taking steps to avoid food jagging is important. Food jagging occurs when a child is over exposed to a food. They may eat this food every day, multiple times a d...ay, and then suddenly, wont go near it. This can be quite distressing for a family with a child who has a very limited food repertoire, so avoiding food jagging can be of considerable importance. ....... 10.01.2022 There is certainly a place for Medical Nutrition Therapy if there are health conditions that require it (mostly GI illness and disease) but for the mainstream chronic illness sufferers, extreme food restriction, elimination of food groups, and strict regulation of calories is not only unhelpful, but can also be harmful. ....... Basic dietary modifications are things like increasing your fruit and veg intake, decreasing your weekly intake of red meat and including legumes and ...other protein sources instead. A basic modification could be to drink more water, and less coffee. Another one could be to not overeat, OR to actually eat when youre hungry instead of avoiding food. A common small change I often recommend is to eat regularly! ....... For those with intolerances or allergies, there are incredible alternatives available these days so you dont need to be restrictive. ....... There are SO many basic dietary modifications that can enrich your life, and your health, especially if you suffer from chronic illness. ....... Considerable dietary changes that restrict the variety of food in your diet can*(read below) be helpful for a very short period of time, (if supported by a practitioner in this area), but in a lot of cases can actually compromise the diversity of good bacteria in your gut, and this in turn can impact your health in a negative way. Equally, anxiety towards food is a huge component in gut issues, and having a restricted diet has been undeniably proven to increase food anxiety AND that can lead to further discomfort and mental health issues. ....... I wont go naming diets right now, but there are some out there that claim miracles, but are really just another silly fad wrapped up in sparkly packaging. ....... If you have health issues that you feel warrant dietary intervention, please see a practitioner and get some support. It was more the motivation that I had to muster (thats my biggest struggle). ....... - Broccolini chopped - Red capsicum chopped... - Dregs of a bag of pine nuts - Leftover noodles from a few nights ago - Tsp of cumin - Bit of salt. . Pop it in a pan with some oil, fry til tender. . I plopped it in a bowl with some avo on top. . You could do this with any random veg you have in your fridge! (But I do like broccolini and red caps the best). . Lunch Done . . . #simplefood #nourishnotpunish #food #comfortfood #aromatic #nourishingfood #sibofriendly #easyaspie See more

03.01.2022 I couldnt agree with this more. Be careful what you say. Well intentioned comments about weight can not only be completely innacurate, but also very damaging for the recipient, especially those battling illness. #weightstigma #lessweightcomments #weightHealth

02.01.2022 Where and when does body image begin to develop? . Children as young as 3 years old can suffer from body image issues and struggle with how they perceive their bodies. Shocked? . Parents attitudes towards food and their body are the largest influence on how a child will perceive theirs.... . How can we be a positive influence? . Speak positively about your own body. Dont talk weight loss diets in front of your kids. When looking in the mirror, dont respond critically to ANY part of your body. speak about food in general terms. Not good/bad, or healthy/unhealthy. Describe foods attributes like bright, crunchy, soft etc. constantly affirm to your children that everyone is unique, and there is SO much more to us than what we look like! . . . #bodypositive #growingcompetenteaters #competenteaters #keepingitpositive #rolemodeling #leadingbyexample #nourishnotpunish #foodfreedom See more
