21.01.2022 Exercise is such an important part in not only preventing disease and illness, but also in treating it. Gone are the days where doctors recommend staying immobile, but getting up moving to aid recovery! Proper exercise prescription with a qualified professional can help even those suffering with cancer - even during treatment. The following is a great read https://www.abc.net.au//calls-for-exercise-to-be-/11605372

20.01.2022 Merry Christmas to all past and present clients and your families! To celebrate Christmas we have this amazing Christmas special. Offer available until 23rd December.

19.01.2022 This week I had the pleasure to welcome back one of my favourite MTB clients. Michelle had a stack off her mtb 10 weeks ago and as a result broke c6, c7 (neck) and t3. I can't believe how positive she has been throughout the recovery progress, she is truly a champ! So 10 weeks post op, and she back to PT with modified exercises Welcome back Michelle, you are such an inspiration Your determination and drive is something that I think we all can learn from - no excuses, do what you can and every day you will get a little bit better

19.01.2022 This seems so relevant, everyone has time to exercise, but you have to make it a priority, nothing is more important than taking care of your body and your health!

18.01.2022 Everyone has their own preferance when they perform best, and when they prefer to train. I'm an early morning person, so I find thats the best time for me! What do you find works for you?

15.01.2022 Best of luck to our riders competing in King Of Ballarat today! If your looking for something to do today head up to Black Hill, racing starts at 12!

13.01.2022 Many people have been affected by the smoke haze that has been hitting towns across Australia, and I have had many conversations with clients regarding the safety of exercising in the smoke. Several things need to be considered - those at most risk are the people under 14 years and the elderly. Those with breathing conditions are also at high risk. There are government websites for each state where you can check your air quality and decide if it is safe to exercise. The advic...e issued by the Australia Institute of Sport, is avoid exercising in the smoke, as it will do more damage to your respiratory system and you will not gain any fitness from training in it. Where possible workout in doors, out of the smoke. The following is the AQI (air quality index) produced by the AIS, to help all understand the levels of air quality. General population and low intensity exercise Endurance based and high intensity exercise AQI VERY GOOD (0-33) Enjoy activities GOOD (34-66) Enjoy activities FAIR (67-99) People unusually sensitive to air pollution: Plan strenuous outdoor activities when air quality is better POOR (100-149) AIR POLLUTION HEALTH ALERT Sensitive groups: Avoid strenuous outdoor activities Everyone: Cut back or reschedule strenuous outdoor activities VERY POOR (150-200) AIR POLLUTION HEALTH ALERT Sensitive groups: Avoid strenuous outdoor activities Everyone: Cut back or reschedule strenuous outdoor activities HAZARDOUS (150-200) AIR POLLUTION HEALTH ALERT Outdoor training should be rescheduled indoors, and exposure should be minimised for everyone HAZARDOUS (>200) AIR POLLUTION HEALTH ALERT Sensitive groups: Avoid strenuous outdoor activities Everyone: Significantly cut back on outdoor physical activities You can view Victorian air quality from the following website: https://www.epa.vic.gov.au/for-community/airwatch

11.01.2022 Rightyo friends, Im gunna put my science/trainer hat on for a minute... I see lots of you doing the 25 push ups a day challenge. Awesome job, and for great causes. But.... approximately 80% of my clients and the general population already have wayyyyy over used anterior chain muscles ie the front of your body. Meaning the muscles at the front are overused, resulting in the opposing posterior chain muscles to be lengthened and weakened (this has to happen to facilitate the ti...ghtening of the anterior chain), you can see this by looking at peoples posture - shoulders are slightly rounded forward, head slightly forward and in some cases a rounding in the thoracic spine. If you've ever trained with me, you know the set position, shoulders down and back ..... So Push ups are a predominantly chest exercise. So, as a trainer, while I think its amazing how many of my friends are doing these challenges could I request that you add into your daily challenge some posterior chain exercises? Ideally you would do 2-3 posterior chain excercises to 1 front execerise... so what exercises do I suggest?? Any rowing action or pulling action would be a great add in to your daily push up challenge. Exercises such as a bent over row, reverse fly, single arm row - seated, standing etc etc. If you have any questions shoot me an inbox

01.01.2022 Hey guys! Im riding the cycle challenge this month, my personal goal is 400km. All funds go to fight kids cancer, so every donation big or small can make a difference :-) https://greatcyclechallenge.com.au/Riders/RhiannonAttiwill

01.01.2022 Warning, long post! Inuury rates are increasing from people working out at an alarming rate. It has been linked to the massive increase in accessibility- you can literally find any youtube clip on any type of workout. Instagram has thousands of unqualified "coaches" demonstarting poorly controlled exercises, and thousands of people are then going to the gym to replicate them. Power without control is worth nothing. It won't translate across to any sports, so even if you ca...n lift 100kg, if you can't control the movement smoothly, you are lifting too heavy. If you can't land a box jump and hold it at the top of the movement you don't have control. Make sure that you you see a qualified coach - someone who has a degree in exercise sport science, or a personal trainer who has some experience, to ensure that you learn the basics of training. You can't gain this experience from watching a few youtube clips!!! Get a tailored made program for you - to suit your goals and your postural requirements. Exercise is prescriptive and can help enhance your life, but only if it's performed correctly! You only have one body, and you need to live in it for the rest of your life, so please make it your priority :-) See more
