25.01.2022 We all know we should try and eat more vegetables but in reality only 7% of us manage to successfully achieve this on a regular basis. Vegetables dont need to be bland and boring. Try this new idea for your "meat free Monday" dinner idea or as a left over for lunch. Your kids will also love it too!

24.01.2022 Welcome to Well Being Wednesday- Do you feel a bit flat during training? Wish you had an injection of energy to push harder and feel stronger? If you answered y...es, then it might be a good idea to pay some attention to your pre-training nutrition Eating foods containing carbohydrates before training has consistently shown to enhance training performance So to get more out of your body try a easily digested carbohydrate snack 1-2 hours before you train. We love: Slice of w/meal toast/crumpet or muffin with honey Pikelets with jam + piece fruit Bowl cornflakes with milk Slice raisin toast + banana Fruit smoothie/glass juice Try the Milo & Banana Shake or Milo Bliss Ball recipe featured in the latest edition of Sports Dietitian Australia Refuel Magazine Big thanks to member Sally Hanks- Accredited Practising Dietitian Ocean Grove Allied Health & Drysdale Village Medical Centre Ocean Grove 52562019 Drysdale 52531002 bodywisenutrition.com.au Mobile 0400396917 https://www.facebook.com/bodywisenutrition/ #wellbeing #wellbeingwednesday #connecting #fun #challenge #diet #energy #nutrition #inspired #activelife #fitness #friends #family #training #surfclub #performance #carbohydrates #bodyweight #strength #endurance @a_guide_to_oceangrove

24.01.2022 A simple message for parents battling to get their children to eat vegetables; your not alone, it takes time and persistence, dont expect them to love all types and finally be a good role model. As with any parenting its not easy.

23.01.2022 With all the hype over sugar these days the question gets asked "should I be avoiding fruit"?

14.01.2022 Ever wondered what to do with Chickpeas? I have just made a delicious Choc-chip and almond blondie for the kids after school snack. The proof is in the pudding so give it a try. 1. Preheat oven to 160C and line a loaf tin with baking paper. 2. Place 420g tin of drained chickpeas, 125g almond spread, 1/4 c lightly packed brown sugar, 1/4 tsp baking powder and 1/4 tsp bicarbonate of soda and 1 TB water in a bowl and blend with a stick beater or food processor until hummus like... consistency. 3. Stir in 1/4 c white chic chips and 1/4 c chopped almonds. Pour into prepared tin. 4. Bake for 40-45 min or until skewer comes out clean. Cool in the tin for 5 min before turning out. Enjoy! See more

14.01.2022 I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and happy Easter at home reconnecting with your family. There is a barrage of information around how to keep healthy in the current environment and it’s important to filter it to focus on that which is evidence based. Nutrition will not stop you from getting COVID 19 but it can improve your bodies ability to fight the virus and decrease the severity of symptoms. Take a read.

14.01.2022 The bogus Alkaline Diet in the news. No more said.

13.01.2022 Sadly a diet mentality is common place in many homes, workplaces and friendship groups - meaning it can be hard to avoid! If you feel guilt, fear or shame around eating or certain foods, you may realise that doesnt actually help you eat that food much less! If you want to learn how you can nourish your body in a way you enjoy and makes you feel good, without guilt or worry- book an appointment to see Amy or Sally and they can guide you.

13.01.2022 I get asked this question a lot, so here is the response from one of my favourite well respected nutritionist.

12.01.2022 Another awesome Well Being Wednesday Nutrition post from Member & Accredited Practising Dietitian Sally Hanks Do you train or exercise in on consecutive days? ...If that’s a YES then listen up.. Refueling your body with good food will result in quicker recovery from training and an increased performance at your next session. Recovery nutrition should happen ideally within 30-60 min of finishing your training and should consist of meals or snacks that combine carbohydrates and protein So if its breakfast after an early morning swim or dinner after iron training then keep some of these ideas top of mind- Baked beans on toast + glass milk Weet-bix + milk/yogurt + tinned peaches Shushi hand roll salmon, ck, tuna Beef stir fry + rice Vegie burger + salad + w/grain roll Tuna casserole with pasta and veg Fried rice + fried egg If you’re travelling or dinner is just not ready in time, try these quick convenient options- Bircher muesli prepared the night before Fruit smoothie Banana + yogurt Dried fruit and nut mix Cheese sandwich Trail Mix recovery bar (see recipe below from Sports Dietitians Australia ReFuel Magazine) Trail Mix Recovery Bar Recipe Ingredients 4 cups of mixed nuts or trail mix (I usually do a 50/50 mix so its higher in nuts and seeds) 3 eggs 3 tablespoons of coconut flour 2 tablespoons of dark chocolate chips Method 1. Pre heat oven to 180c. Line a small square slice tin with baking paper. 2. Roughly chop the trail mix and nuts 3. Mix nuts, eggs and coconut flour together and press into the slice tray. Sprinkle with chocolate chips on top 4. Bake for 20 minutes until just browned on the top. Allow to cool fully and slice into bars. Allow to cool fully and slice into bars 5. Store in an air-tight container for 5 days or freeze 6. 03.01.2022 Today I attended an event by The Moderation Movement, my favorite quote: "Our body obsessed culture thinks a lot about our bodies, but we rarely take the time to feel their sensations" Suzanne LeCombe. Isnt it time to learn how to eat intuitively by reconnecting with our internal cues. Trust your body to tell you what, how much and when to eat. Let go of the diet mentality, dont quit food you love and nourish your body.
