22.01.2022 Have you ever had one of those days where you jump on the scale and somehow it says you gained weight since yesterday? Well, the good news is you probably didn’t gain fat! The truth is, it’s quite hard to gain fat overnight. Personally, my weight fluctuates based on quite a few factors, but lets break down what could have happened ... 1 You ate a high carb meal yesterday. It also possibly came with some salt as well. In this case, you simply might be holding some extra water retention, which could easily account for that weight 2 If you had a leg workout over the last 2 days and you really pushed yourself, your legs could also be holding some fluid while they are trying to recover 3 If you didn’t sleep well last night or maybe you were really stressed out, you could have some water retention due to the cortisol spike in your body. This is the stress hormone and being stressed or not sleeping will affect this 4 Simply put, if you have not gone to the bathroom, you might have some extra waste built up and in that case, you have to poop! 5 Weighing yourself at all different times can always throw off your weight depending on food and water. Your best bet is weighing yourself naked in the morning after you go to the bathroom 6 When that time of the month hits for females, the hormonal shift can certainly make you hold some extra weight. It’s very normal for some to be 1 to 2 or even 5kgs heavier. All of which goes back to normal when your cycle is over As you can see there are many logical reasons for this and if you are someone trying to make progress in the fat loss area it’s important to keep this in mind so you don’t go crazy looking at the number. 20.01.2022 And that’s a wrap for 2020!! As I sit here and pour this very large glass of wine I can’t help but think of what a crazy year this has been. It definitely did not pan out as I had intended. Normally at this time I would share a video of all our classes and the fun had throughout the year but I couldn’t bring myself to make a vid this year, because if I see another class of black boxes again I think I’ll lose it! As much as I have loved seeing you guys online I can’t wait ...to see you all back face to face in 2021!! So here’s the good news... We are back at our normal venues face to face for term 1 starting Monday 1st February. Enrollments are now open. Places will need to be reserved so pls get back to me ASAP to avoid disappointment. Also I will be running 4 weeks of summer online classes during January. Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9.30am. If you’re keen message me for more details. I want to thank the ladies who continued to support my little business this year. It means more to me than you’ll ever know. 19.01.2022 Vegan Neapolitan Popsicles A healthy twist on a classic flavour combination of strawberry, chocolate and vanilla. Wholesome ingredients packed into these deliciously fun summer treats. Perfect for the hot weather days coming up Ingredients * 3 cans of full-fat Unsweetened Organic Coconut Milk... * 1/2 cup fresh or frozen berries (strawberries, blackberries, raspberries) * 115gms stevia sweetened chocolate (sub with unsweetened or semi-sweet) * 1 tsp vanilla extract * 6 tbsp maple syrup (optional) Instructions * 1. In a small saucepan add 1 can of coconut milk, blackberries and 2 tbsp of maple syrup. Simmer over medium heat for about 5-10 minutes. Puree with a hand mixer just enough to create a pink coconut milk mixture. Transfer into a measuring cup/bowl and set aside to cool. * * 2. In a bowl add 1 can of coconut milk, 2 tbsp of maple syrup and 1 tsp of vanilla extract. Mix until combined. * * 3. In a small saucepan add 1 can of coconut milk and maple syrup. Heat over medium heat. * Add chocolate and stir until fully melted and incorporated into the milk. Transfer into a measuring cup/bowl and set aside to cool. * * 4. Evenly pour pink coconut milk into 10 popsicle molds filling each . Set in the freezer for about 1 hour. Repeat process with white layer and chocolate layer. Enjoy. * * 5. That just means that when we eat carbs, the excess gets sent to our muscles..or if we eat too much, to fat.... 16.01.2022 Today I want to give it up for the lovely Sophie!! Sophie started PT not that long ago and wow this woman is accountability 101!! Without fail every night around 9pm I get a text from her showing me her steps for the day, calories burnt and what she ate. I don’t ask her to do this but it has kept her on track and boy has she done well. And this woman is busyyy!! She works almost 7 days a week at 2 jobs! If she can do it we all can. Sophie also gives 100% in every session and ...walks on her treadmill every night at home. She makes sure she gets at least 10000+ steps daily and has cleaned up her diet. Small changes to her everyday that are sustainable and will become part of her new lifestyle. The weight and centimeters have started to come off to the point Sophie had to order two sizes down in her work uniform recently. So proud of you Sophie. I know it’s hard but you have everything you need in spades to be successful. Keep punching and keep smiling. 11.01.2022 This Quinoa Spinach Salad is loaded with favourites like butternut pumpkin, chopped apples and quinoa. It’s packed with nutrition and flavour and you’ll love the apple cider vinegar tahini dressing too! Easy to whip together for Meat Free Monday INGREDIENTS * 4 cups fresh baby spinach, chopped * 1 1/2 cups cooked quinoa (cooked according to package directions)... * 3/4 cup butternut pumpkin, chopped * 1 medium apple, peeled and chopped * 1/3 cup pepitas (pumpkin seeds) or pecans * 3 Tablespoons dried cranberries Tahini Apple Cider Vinegar Dressing * 2 Tablespoons tahini * 2 Tablespoons apple cider vinegar * 2 Tablespoons lemon juice * 2 Tablespoons low sodium tamari or coconut aminos * 4 Tablespoons nutritional yeast * 2 teaspoons minced garlic (2 cloves of garlic) * 2 teaspoons maple syrup INSTRUCTIONS 1. Prepare the pumpkin by peeling it, cutting it in half and scraping out the seeds. 2. Cut the pumpkin into bite-size cubes, place on a lightly oiled baking sheet and roast at 200c for 30-40 minutes, turning once or twice, until all the pieces are tender and have a few small brown spots. 3. If your pepitas or pecans are raw, you can toast them in the oven with the roasting pumpkin. Spread seeds/nuts on a separate baking sheet and add to the oven with the butternut pumpkin for 5 to 10 minutes or until the seeds/nuts are golden and crunchy, then remove from the pan to cool. Be sure to watch the seeds/nuts carefully because they can burn quickly. The pepitas will take less time to toast than the pecans because they’re smaller. 4. While roasting the pumpkin, toss together spinach, cooked quinoa, apple and cranberries in a large salad bowl. Add cooled pepitas (or pecans) once they’ve been toasted. 5. Prepare dressing by placing all remaining ingredients (tahini through maple syrup) in a blender and blend until smooth. 6. Once the butternut pumpkin is done roasting, allow it to cool and then place into the salad bowl with the other ingredients. Pour the dressing over the salad and toss to coat. Serve immediately. Just like Banana Bread but better And if you French Toast it..well, it takes it to a whole new level Ingredients: 1 cup blueberries (you can use any berry) 2 tbsp organic honey... 2 ripe bananas mashed 1 tbsp vanilla extract 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar 4 eggs 2 cups almond flour/meal 1 tbsp cinnamon 1 tsp baking soda Coconut oil spray Steps: Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Spray bread pans with coconut oil spray and set aside. Mix dry ingredients together well: almond meal, cinnamon and baking soda. Mix wet ingredients together well: honey, vanilla extract, apple cider vinegar, and eggs. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients; make sure these are well incorporated. Fold in blueberries and bananas to the mixture. Divide batter and pour it into the two mini bread pans or muffin trays if you prefer. Bake for about 35 minutes (or until it passes the toothpick test). Let bread cool. Once cooled, cover it with plastic wrap and place in refrigerator overnight.
