25.01.2022 'Let The Sunshine In' with Juliette Binoche caused quite a stir on opening night at #BOFA2018. If you loved it, hated it or missed it, catch it on SBS. Not up for the challenge? Can't go wrong with Audrey Tautou in 'Amélie'.
24.01.2022 BOFA IN CONVERSATION WILDER THAN WILD SATURDAY @4.30pm Believe we can do more to prevent bushfires in Australia? Sick of inaction on climate change? Join us today @4.30pm for a very special Bofa in Conversation as we confront the big issues and go deep with the film's producer/director Kevin White, and panellists from the Tasmanian Fire Service and Indigenous communities. We will discuss how climate change is affecting the Australian landscape, the aftermath of the summer's ...bushfires, and how we can learn from (and work with) traditional custodians to use Indigenous and cultural burning practices to safeguard our futures. You will find us, as always, planting the seeds of change here. Join the event for more details
22.01.2022 It's Slo-Mo Sunday. That time of the week when we take a step back from the screens, peel our skin from the sofa, and panelbeat our bodies back into a human-like shape. Whether it's sofa stretching or a making your own cinema-scented relaxation candles (our favourite is 'Choc Top Stained Seat Cushion'), maintaining a strong and healthy body not only improves your state of wellbeing, but may save your vision during a pretty intense movie marathon. Today's class is all about ...EYE YOGA. Let's begin by warming up the eye muscles with a shifty side-to-side eye dart. Side-to-side. Do that a couple of times at your own pace. Side-to-side. That's good. Now try an up-and-down movement - like you're sizing up Gary Sinese on the red carpet. Very good. You've done this before. Next, we'll try the eye roll. Let's pretend a loved one has just said 'A Beautiful Mind' is the most underrated film in the canon of cinema. Now, roll those eyes. Exaggerate that movement - really get deep into those sockets and show us that "possessed" look. That's it! Now you're exorcising! Finally, let's end with an eyelid massage. Using the tips of your fingers, gently massage the eyelids in a counter-clockwise direction. Not too hard - we don't want to blind ourselves this early into the festival. Let's slow it down and ease into a clockwise direction. Good. Your eyelids should now be feeling as relaxed as the skin behind Mickey Rourke's ears. And, that's it! Your eyes are now ready for another 168 hours of continuous BOFA viewing. And remember - exercise throughout the festival to maintain optimal viewing dexterity! As always, don't forget to tag and share your Slo-mo Sunday routines with us using the hashtag #letsBOFA

15.01.2022 BOFA ON THE SOFA @4:30pm. We're counting down the minutes to today’s installment of BOFA on the Sofa. Today’s film is CHINA LOVE. We’re fortunate to be joined on the virtual couch by China Love producer Rebecca Barry, Robert Ravens of wedding venue Bridestowe Estate, and James Chin of UTAS Centre for Asian Studies, as we discuss contemporary Chinese culture (and the wedding photo industry boom). Zoom link : https://us04web.zoom.us/j/681776008 And, as a bit of fun, we’ll be g...etting into the wedding spirit and peeling the protective plastic off the sofa, ironing our butterfly collars and challenging our amazing BOFA community to dress up in your craziest (and daggiest!) wedding-themed attire (whether this is your pastel 70's tux, your 80's puffy sleeves - it's up to you!) Expect cheap bubbles, big hair, preened moustaches, browned edges, valuable lessons learned, and undoubtedly good times. And to keep the tradition going, simply take a photo of yourself in your wedding outfit (and your extravagant sofa setup) and tag us with a #letsBOFA, and we’ll share on our social over the coming days. Raise your glasses!

02.01.2022 And just like that, another season of BOFA draws to a close. It’s custom to turn up the house lights as the final credits roll, tap on the microphone and ask if we can be heard at the back, and thank everyone involved for making the festival a stupendous success So, we’d like to keep the tradition alive as we tap on the keyboard and hand out the 2020 BOFA Online Film Festival Virtual Laurels. To all those involved behind the scenes who were able to get this online festival ...up in the space of two weeks (which was no mean feat) - thank you. To the wonderful filmmakers and distributors who gave up their time to be part of our Q&As, behind-the-scenes videos, trivia and last-minute license hurdling - here’s to you. And, finally, to our wonderful BOFA community, who allowed us the freedom to glitch bravely into the new world - we thank you for your continued support, and couldn’t have done it without you. On a personal note, taking something we once saw as purely an in-person event, online, has taught us invaluable lessons. This last-minute decision (which was, at first, out of our hands), has set the festival up for years to come, and gives us the chance to experiment with the festival in ways we would have never once imagined. It has also allowed us to reach new audiences around Australia, and we’re continually humbled by all the support and kind words flowing in from people all around the country. This has inspired us to keep building the festival, and combine both in-person and virtual screenings and events for years to come. Until the next edition of the Breath of Fresh Air (Online) Film Festival, we wish you happy viewing and good luck to you all. Cheers, Helen, Owen and the BOFA team
02.01.2022 The Sydney Film Festival just launched its first fully online "virtual & national' program. The line-up includes a selection of films from European women directors and 11 films contending for the Documentary Australia Foundation Award.Time to get back on the sofa!
01.01.2022 Happy Halfway Monday. We've reached the festival equinox (or is it a festival solstice?), and just wanted to say a quick thank you to our BOFA community for all your kind support. On cold Tassie mornings such as these, your friendship warms us like an old fisherman's sweater. Thank you! This week we're squeaking the spotlight on WINE CALLING - a documentary that rips the waxed seal off the French wine industry and shows us the punk rock side of the burgeoning natural wine mov...ement. Expect flashes of Franco-nudity, beautiful vineyards and tantalising wine. Over the course of the coming days, we will instigate conversations and go behind-the-scenes of the film (and the wine industry). And if you love your wine, join us this Friday @8:30pm for our special BOFA in Conversaton as we discuss WINE CALLING, wine, natural wine, and ecological sustainability with some viticultural juggernauts. You will find us on our regular Zoom channel and continue to tag us on social (using the hashtag #letsBOFA) with your questions, photos and reviews.
