25.01.2022 We are looking forward to running on the new map at Raging Waters next Saturday. Lyn Malmgron has drawn a cracker of a map of the water theme park with Barry Hanlon preparing the base map. The courses are being set by Barbara Hill who is the course planner for most SOS events. There are a few unusual features to navigate in the park and the orienteering challenge should be a treat. Entries close on midday on Thursday.

25.01.2022 Successful day for the girls at Northside - Saturday O Series yesterday. Women took first place in each of the Long Line, Short Line and Warm Up open courses in the bush at Allambie Heights yesterday. Congrats to Melissa Thomas, Caroline Wilson and Julie Piggott for the top runs. Results are in the comments below.

24.01.2022 A great turnout at Saturday O Series yesterday. Hills District was at North Rocks Public School which always performs well at the Sydney West Schools Champs. Awesome to see participants of all ages compete in the event - the youngest being 6 years. There was top racing amongst the primary and high school entrants, fast times from the young adults and hot competition amongst the most senior attendees in their mid-80s! Grab a cup of tea and take a moment to catch a glimpse of the community participating in the event. Thanks to North Rocks Public School and Parramatta City Council for providing the venue and Western & Hills Orienteering Club for assistance.

22.01.2022 TED talk. All set and ready to go for the Emerge Festival with Garingal Orienteers today. We are meeting at the back of Willoughby Leisure Centre at Small Street, Willoughby. See you there.

21.01.2022 OMG it’s a very complex map today for Saturday O Series. All set up and ready to go. Bring your thinking caps and running shoes ...

21.01.2022 We were delighted to kick off the Northside Saturday Orienteering Series at Field of Mars yesterday. This is a fabulous pocket of bushland within Ryde. For those on the Long Course, which route did you take from 1 to 2? The Field of Mars EEC were super hosts. The Environmental Education Centre is actually a NSW public school and does an amazing job educating our next generation on the environment that we all enjoy. Thanks too to City of Ryde Council for access and Garingal Orienteers for use of the map. Next weeks Northside event is at Allambie Heights. Enter before midday Thursday.

21.01.2022 Wow, its magnificent in the forest this morning. Thanks to Ku-ring-gai Council for access to this fabulous patch of Sydney sandstone forest. We are looking forward to sharing it with you.

20.01.2022 Looking for some Saturday night entertainment? The team at City Theatre is spending this week writing, producing and rehearsing a new musical for performance this Saturday night. 20.01.2022 So pleased to meet a friend out in the field today...

18.01.2022 Wow - some blue sky for the set up at Hills District! Note that the assembly area for Hills District is at the back entrance to North Rocks Public School at Tiernan St, North Rocks. See you there!

18.01.2022 Good morning. The sun is shining and we are looking forward to a glorious spring like day (thats the good news). Now for the bad: unfortunately we have placed entries for this weekends events on hold. You can read the latest news below. Although SOS events are regionalised, sports which mix community groups are to be temporarily suspended. We will be seeking clarification and make further announcements however ensuring that everyone remains safe and well remains our highest priority.

18.01.2022 Spring has well and truly arrived. Saturday O Series - Hills District concluded today with a sprint at George Kendall Park at Ermington. Northside was a full bush O experience at Ingleside Scout Camp. Thank you Parramatta City Council and Ingleside Scout Camp (and Ric) for the venues and competitors for an enjoyable day out.

17.01.2022 Bush or Urban? Two choices for Saturday O Series this weekend. Hills District is a sprint event with a maze at The Ponds High School which is near Tallawong metro station. 17.01.2022 Spring is in the air! A sensational day for the 2 Sydney regions of Saturday O Series. Hills District enjoyed strips of bush along the creek lines at Rydalmere - complete with families of ducks. Northside featured a new SOS map of bushland along Lane Cove River and Mowbray Public School. Thanks to Toby Wilson for a beaut new map update for Lane Cove River, Tracy Marsh for development work with the school, Willoughby City Council, Parramatta City Council and Western & Hills Orienteers. And thanks everyone for your patience in dealing with the new COVID-19 guidelines.

16.01.2022 Orienteers may remember the Sprint the Bay Carnival in New Zealand in 2013. There was a sprint event held at the Splash Planet water park in Hastings, New Zealand which featured some of worlds best orienteers. The event was won by Judith Wyder and Matthias Muller both of Switzerland and the map was nominated for map of the year at World of O. https://doma.orienteering.asn.au/show_map.php. You can enjoy a brief video of the event from NZ's Ross Morrison at https://mapross.blogspot.com/?m=0.t The event at Raging Waters Sydney will be a very similar concept and format to the 2013 New Zealand event.

16.01.2022 #collisions the musical written, produced and performed in one week in Sydney is now available with free online streaming. The show was presented last Saturday night at the Flight Path Theatre in Marrickville. Settle in for the show at home this evening!

16.01.2022 What a great way to start Ryde Secondary College's orienteering journey. The school is a sensational spot for sprint O and we are very fortunate to be able to get out and exercise as a community in such a great location. Thank you to Gordon Wilson for preparing a top quality map in such a short timeframe and thanks also to Ryde Secondary College for the venue.

14.01.2022 All set up and ready to go for Saturday O Series this morning at Palm Beach. Meet near the cafe at the north end of Governor Phillip Park. Is this the last Saturday O Series for the year??? ssh....

14.01.2022 This one will bite. Welcome to the new Tasmanian NBL team. Great to see the name and branding building off the Tassie bush environment.

12.01.2022 Two contrasting events this coming Saturday. Ingleside will include forest and rock detail. We recommend leg cover. Ermington will be a riverside park experience. By popular demand, we have added a start window for north shore residents at the Ermington event. With 22 degrees forecast, it should be a great spring morning for a run.

12.01.2022 Bush orienteering in the Sydney metro area today for Sydney O Series at Turramurra. Great to have bush O so close to home. The spring natives were out in force with blue flowers in abundance. Hope everyone had a great day out. Plenty of room for expansion of mapping of the rock areas in the future. Thanks to Ku-Ring-Gai Council for access to the area.

10.01.2022 22 August SOS events cancelled. On 17 August NSW Health introduced new guidelines for the conduct of community sport events. These include a strong recommendation against events or sporting activities which mix people across Sydney regions. Although SOS events are regionalised, we do have people that travel between regions to attend. As a result, we are currently replanning, reconfiguring events and liaising with our landholders to continue with updated and COVID-safe loc...al events. Whilst we do this, we have cancelled this weekends events. Sorry! We are hopeful that SOS will resume from 29 August. Please watch the event listings and this Facebook page for the latest news. Stay local, safe and well everyone. See more

10.01.2022 The team at Bold Horizons really want to continue to share some of the best parts of outdoor Sydney with you throughout the current pandemic. Its important that we exercise, its important that we get fresh air, its important that we see other people. To run events, we need your help. Please read and follow our COVID-19 Participant Guide and do your bit to help yourself and others to stay well. This illness is not something that we would like to see any more of our frien...ds or family succumb to. Included below is a video by the dad of some of our regular orienteering lads. Its about his experience with the illness. Exactly how or where he caught COVID is not known but most likely off a returned traveller that was asymptomatic through his work. Stay home if you are unwell, cover your cough, blow your nose to a tissue, wash hands etc. Good hygiene and distancing is essential please. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vy0n2uUrUY&feature=youtu.be See more

09.01.2022 The sun is shining and Saturday looks like being a terrific day for SOSing. Pre-entries close each week at midday on the Thursday before each event. So if you havent yet entered but would like a run on Saturday, jump on line and enter asap.

09.01.2022 We love the Sydney sandstone forests. Northside SOS today was a true adventure. Recent rain had greened up the forest which was glistening in the sunshine. Thanks Terry Bluett for a top map and competitors for a great day. #bennelongnorthsideorienteers

06.01.2022 Robert Pymble Park isn't a big area yet only two people managed times under 15 minutes at the SOS. With most runners taking around half an hour, courses exercised minds and bodies. Results have been posted to Eventor and the Bold Horizons site. They have been updated to exclude additional time on the interim download for Long course runners and time penalties have been cross-checked. Next week will be a contrast as we take on the trails at Bobbin Head.

06.01.2022 Sneak preview of a section of the map for the Saturday Orienteering Series event at Raging Waters Sydney on 12 December. This a new sprint map which presents challenges for the mappers and interesting nav puzzles for runners. Enter at Bold Horizons website.

06.01.2022 Life's a Beach. Saturday O Series today was set amongst spectacular Sydney coastal scenery on the Palm Beach spit. Any guesses for what happened here on 17 January 1988 and then 7,466 times since?
