23.01.2022 MAGGIE MAGIC So excited to celebrate the launch of Maggie Dents new book, From Boys To Men. I know so many families over the years who have treasured Maggies wisdom. We cant wait to read the latest! We are honored that Maggie is Bold Park Community Schools Patron ... or as Maggie jests.... our Patron Saint. We can certainly say ... we are blessed.
23.01.2022 KAMBARANG - In the 6 Noongar Seasons we are now moving into the transformational time of the year | October & November As many things are undergoing transformation with the warm change in the weather and longer dry periods, October is a time of the year you are most likely to encounter a snake. Reptiles at this time are emerging from hibernation and look to make the most of the warm weather to assist them in getting enough energy to look for food. We still need to keep an eye... on the Koolbardi (Magpies) as they are still nesting through October. (Information links on Reptiles and Koolbardi below). It's a good time to remind our families about being sunsmart - being mindful of hats, shoes, sunscreen, water bottles and freezer block with lunch! Kambarang is the wildflower season with many yellow flowers, orchids, kangaroo paws and banksias in bloom. Even the Balgas will flower, especially if they have been burnt in the past year. One of the most striking displays of flowers at this time of year is the Mooja or Australian Christmas Tree, whose bright orange/yellow flowers signal that heat is on its way. 21.01.2022 MAKING THE MAGIC VISIBLE Over the past few years, our Pedagogista, Nicole Hunter has worked alongside our teaching teams to articulate, capture and maintain rich documentation around a central Whole School Focus. We are thrilled to be working with Angela Mitchell (Graphic Designer and Bold Park parent) to make visible these magical stories of integration, inspiration, partnership and inquiry learning through new banners (and a range of new initiatives this year). Today we received another wave of banners on-site which provide links to online video stories that deeply articulate these learning journeys further. We hope you will take the time to enjoy them when you return for a visit.

20.01.2022 MUD WEEK! Middle School students started rejuvenating the Wildspace Mud Hut, which was built by Middle School and College back in 2016. It has become a much loved meeting space and chillout zone across the school and is in need of a little refresh! Students started the process today making cobb (mud, sand and straw) and repairing the walls and the inside bench seat.... More work will continue on the hut and space this week and the students are planning to add some additional seating outside.

19.01.2022 1000 STORIES Lens 5 - Middle School (Year 7-9) and College (Years 10-12) Through our internal platform, EDUCA, we share with our parents stories and insights about what happens in their childs classroom at Bold Park Community School (Yes - even the Year 12s!). 18.01.2022 ENGAGED, SUCCESSFUL, RESILIENT, GRADUATES... Our College Team Leader, Tim Vidler really captures the heart of our College Options program when he says: "(the program) gets them out of their comfort zone, out in nature and they get a huge sense of achievement ... and it really resonates with them." Want some more information on our College Program? Contact Lei Baker, our Community Engagement Coordinator via [email protected] or book a tour https://bit.ly/BPCSTours
18.01.2022 WE NEED TO PROTECT THEM! Three of our littlest people had a lovely time playing with little creatures in the sensory tub in Early Childhood. Suggestions were plentiful on what to create and they decided on building a house for the little creatures to protect them. The caring nature and collaboration exhibited in this delightful nature play encounter these little learners had forms just part of the daily experiences at Bold Park Community School.... To find out more, contact our Community Engagement Coordinator Lei on [email protected]
17.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW? REmida has grown from humble beginnings to a visionary leader in sustainable reuse. In 2004, the teachers and parents of Bold Park Community School collected a 1000 containers of waste materials. These materials became a feature in the artistic installation 'Materials in Dialogue' which was set-up in Forrest Place, in the heart of Perth. This installation inspired the community to rethink waste and discover the endless possibilities of reusable materials. By... 2005 the REmida centre opened at the old Cairne TAFE campus and exhibited the 'Sculptures of Identity'. This body of work highlighted the many expressions of identity from children in the local community. From here REmida began to grow and evolve, building relationships with members, volunteers and suppliers. In 2008 REmida WA was incorporated and relocated to a larger premise allowing the centre to attract even more enthusiastic members! Perth's has a rapidly growing community who want to embrace sustainable practises, watch this space as REmida is set to lead the way in creative reuse! (REmida website) Happy Birthday, REmida!
17.01.2022 LEARNING and GROWTH, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY FUN, THROUGH SENSORY PLAY It is important for us to provide the opportunity for sensory play during the day. Outdoors, it is in the form of sand, water, and mud. Indoors, it can be presented in various ways. Last week the Djidi Djidi Friends enjoyed sensory play in a few ways. One day they had a large tub full of lids to rifle and rustle through, searching for hidden treasure in the form of smooth, cold marbles. But their all-time fav...ourite is playing with shaving cream. Playing with shaving cream offers so many opportunities to expand a childs knowledge and explore with their senses. It feels wonderful and smells lovely! The sensory messages from the feel and smell are creating more neural pathways in the brain. It can be quite social as the children talk to each other about what they are doing. There can be scientific thinking in the cause and effect play and literacy skill development as the children practice their writing or seek to describe how it feels. The other important benefit of this play is that it can be very calming, as it provides the sensory input needed to assist with self-regulation. Looking to enrol and want to know more? Contact Lei Baker our Community Engagement Coordinator and book a tour. [email protected] or https://bit.ly/BPCSTours
16.01.2022 HAPPY MUD DAY! On Monday the Dancing Diggers had the joy of opening the "present" that had been waiting, covered in the Early Childhood playground. A present for the children for mud making... a huge load of gravel! The Djidi Djidi Friends also had the opportunity to enjoy the "present" this week, working together to dig the gravel, fill buckets and wheelbarrows and then transporting it to the gravel pit and spreading it around.... 16.01.2022 MUTUAL RESPECT... "What if we lived in a society where we ALL could understand and respect each others rights?" This is just one of the questions posed by our Year 5/6 students as they seized an opportunity to participate in the Yolande Frank Awards recently. Click below to read more about their experience...
16.01.2022 22 YEARS Time and time again we read about the amazing benefits of children being ‘allowed’ to play outside. I’m so proud of our school’s commit to this ethos for nearly 22 years ... long before play and engagement with the outdoors and nature had any significant following (other than outdoor sports). The foundational DNA of our school has prioritised what research reveals is best for children. We are thrilled that our country now enjoys a time when our media are capturing the momentum more and more... let’s keep working to empower educators to step outside, out of the indoor-class and embrace playing and learning together in the outdoors... not for a day but every day.
16.01.2022 CHANCE OR SKILL... WHICH IS IT? Middle School students have been exploring whether Rock, Paper Scissors is a game of chance or skill. They had their theories and some strategies they thought might provide answers. However, the students needed to put these to the test. How did they do this? They asked the College students to join them in a Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament! 44 players got together to battle it out for the title and after 43 (x3) games, a Middle School and Colle...ge student versed each other in the final round! After a 1-1 score, the Middle School student ultimately won the tie-breaker game. And what were there results? Well you will have to ask them!
15.01.2022 LITTLE LIVES MAKING BIG CHANGE... One of our wonderful Pre-Primary students was excited to drop off some containers last week shortly after the Shenton Park Containers for Change refund point opened. Her mum said, "She’s so happy to be recycling and doing something good for the school." We're so happy too that even our littlest ones are doing their bit to recycle for change. Want to donate? Collection points can be found at https://www.containersforchange.com.au/wa/where-to-return Remember to quote our scheme ID C10292253.

14.01.2022 LITTLE THINGS ARE THE BIG THINGS At Bold Park we have always seen sustainable practices as a priority but it is only in the last 5 years that we have pursued specific recognition for our Waste Wise, Water Wise and Sun-smart (being nature-based) practices. This is not for the ‘pat on the back’ but rather that we have external measures for accountability and make visible that these are ongoing priorities in our community. Thank you to all of the staff, students and families who keep our work at the fore in these spaces.
14.01.2022 MAGGIE MAGIC So excited to celebrate the launch of Maggie Dent’s new book, ‘From Boys To Men’. I know so many families over the years who have treasured Maggie’s wisdom. We can’t wait to read the latest! We are honored that Maggie is Bold Park Community School’s Patron ... or as Maggie jests.... our ‘Patron Saint’. We can certainly say ... we are ‘blessed’.

14.01.2022 INSIGHT | LOOKING IN, LOOKING OUT... The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes. ~ Marcel Proust This year's Arts celebration week takes the form of an exhibition with unique pop-up experiences for our parent community. InSight began this morning with the wonders of community, family and homes with our Pre-Primary students. Read more...
14.01.2022 HOW ARE YOU DOING THE 60|20 CHALLENGE? This term we had a change in Principal ... for an hour ... Two of our Year 1/2 students stepped up and became "Co-Principals of the Hour". These two students met with the Senior Leadership Team and put forward some proposals to address items that they thought were important to the school community. One of these items was slowing down in the car park and they put the call out for parents to slow down in the car park several weeks ago and... were wondering how many families have answered that call. The Co-Principals challenged us to aim for 60 seconds from entry to drop off in the car park. So, how are you doing the 60|20 challenge? Tell us in the comments below!
13.01.2022 SO EXCITED FOR SHELLEY! Did you know that author "T.C. Shelley" is Bold Park's very own English Teacher ... Shelley Turnbull? Shelley's hugely successful 'The Monster Who Wasn't' has been a massive success around the world and we can now look forward to Shelley's second book 'The Werewolves Who Weren't', hitting the shelves on the 1st October!
13.01.2022 PROMOTING LIFE-LONG LEARNERS Small projects was the name of the game for the Wildlife Warriors last week and Tuesday afternoon saw the whole class working together and in small groups on a variety of projects. From caring for animals at the Veterinarian to using careful folding skills to make boxes. Decoding cryptic text was also on point in the mat area. Spilling out of the classroom to our classroom in the great outdoors, there was bug hunting, tower building and role-pla...ying on the go. Some students began a mini project writing stories using a Story Mountain Map. Story Mountain Maps are a tool used to illustrate the structure of story writing. There was much negotiation and discussion over space, equipment and designs in the construction zone by students as well as caring for each others creations by labelling them as a work in progress. When the environments are designed for collaboration and engagement, learning occurs on multiple levels through play because the child is engaged and focussed. This in turn promotes confidence and then independence in their work and the ability to question, innovate and create.
13.01.2022 DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR! Seriously engaged, real projects, so honored to show a bunch of families around this morning and introduce our programs and new campus in Maylands (complete with the BUZZ of an amazing team of young people). Do yourself a favour and book in a tour!
12.01.2022 WHEN CONNECTION MEETS COLLABORATION... Our Certificate IV Design students have moved further along with their project at Maylands as they seized the opportunity to meet one on one with some local artists and talk to them about their experiences in working on projects of this size. Read more about the Mural Project at Maylands through the link below. For more about the College program or to enquire about enrolling for 2021 contact Lei by emailing [email protected]
12.01.2022 BOLD READING CHALLENGE! HAVE YOU STARTED? A few years ago, the Premier of Western Australia would run an annual ‘Summer Reading Challenge’. Over the holiday break, WA children were challenged to set a goal in relation to their reading, log their reading and celebrate their achievement together. Sadly, the challenge stopped in 2014 as not enough children were participating! We started a Principal's Reading Challenge for Bold Park students a few years ago and the response has ...been FABULOUS every year! So..... our Reading Owl is keen to know "HOO" has started the challenge already? Don't forget that a visit to your local library is part of the challenge! Find out more at the link below (or via our Newsflash) https://documentcloud.adobe.com/link/track

12.01.2022 InSight - A WEEK OF CELEBRATION At our annual Arts Exhibition week recently, we welcomed our community to share a space that will play an important part in our future, Maylands Campus. InSight moved towards a model which favoured projects that were more under construction and hosted workshops with our parents. Rhys George, Exhibition Curator and Arts Team leader said, "To share what happens in the classroom with our parents was a real joy to see after a year when parents ha...ve had a limited window into the classroom." https://www.boldpark.com/insight/

Sir Ken Robinson ... Thank You. ... Rest In Peace.

It was also good to get advice from someone who has been successful in this area and seeing all the cool things he did. Also see...ing the drawings before they were published and the steps he went through to get them published. Thank you to Zeno Sworder for his time and experience and to Beaufort Street Books for the introduction! You can read more about our students experience through our website.
