25.01.2022 What a great story

25.01.2022 Thinking of our American counterparts.

25.01.2022 During and following the 2019/20 fire season, $25 million was donated to CFA. $4.8 million of these donations were allocated to one of CFA’s four programs to di...stribute donations a tools and equipment ‘District Pick List’. The 11,000 items distributed to 95% of CFA’s 1200 brigades from this list will help us protect our communities across the state. To everyone who donated to CFA thank you.

25.01.2022 Great post to read by Mike from the tv show Paramedics. There's so many people to be thankful for in our current situation, some more obvious, some less obvious, and all deserving.

25.01.2022 Did you know you can't smell smoke when you're asleep? All smoke alarms in your home should be interconnected - this means that no matter where a fire starts - all alarms will sound.

25.01.2022 Super interesting clip. Keeping in mind this simulation is only showing flames and fuel on one side of the car.

24.01.2022 SOLO RIDERS AND 4WD’s IN MACEDON REGIONAL PARK 4WD’s and solo riders regularly visit Macedon Regional Park to explore the beautiful flora and Fauna it provides.... Parks Victoria and Police encourage visitors to the area as long as you abide by the laws which govern them. 4WD’s and solos are allowed to ride through the Macedon Regional Park as long as the vehicle is registered and the rider/driver is licensed. You can only drive/ride on the designated made roads/tracks and not veer into the bushland. The bushland is protected and the flora and fauna in it. There are consequences for leaving the designated made roads and venturing into the bush. You are not allowed to make your own tracks and jumps. Parks Victoria and police regularly patrol the park and will continue to do so and if you are found outside the rules you will be prosecuted.

23.01.2022 Seeing a huge smoke plume or smokey haze? Forest Fire Management Victoria are well underway with their planned burn schedule for autumn. You can check for planned burns in the area on the Forest Fire Management Victoria website. https://plannedburns.ffm.vic.gov.au/

23.01.2022 To be able to fight fire, we must first understand fire and that is where Thomas Duff, Senior Research Scientist at CFA comes in. Victoria’s landscape is compl...ex, and we need scientists like Thomas to better understand what drives all types of fires, how they move and what resources we need to fight them. This information is then used to help our firefighters and protect them during our fire seasons. His role involves using a lot of science, from looking at how climate change and weather affects fire conditions to research and experiments done right here in Victoria. Thomas explains why he loves his job for #ScienceWeek.

22.01.2022 Thousands of Victorians are still with us because a brave bystander stepped in. Every day around 18 Victorians will have a cardiac arrest, with only 1 in 10 sur...viving. Bystander intervention has the greatest impact on improving that rate. Did you know that performing CPR and using an AED lifts the chances of surviving a cardiac arrest by 68%? October is now dubbed 'Shocktober', as Ambulance Victoria encourages all Victorians to learn CPR and locate their nearest AED. #shocktober #easyasAED

22.01.2022 Well it is something of a Red Letter day tomorrow for the Victorian emergency services. After 129 years service, the MFB (Melbourne Metropolitan Fire Brigade)... ceases to exist at midnight tonight. Tomorrow, all MFB members, trucks, stations & equipment will transfer to Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV). Joining them in the new organisation will be all the staff firefighters & some other staff from CFA (Country Fire Authority). The staffed CFA stations, including the new Tarneit Fire Station, will now belong to FRV as will many of the trucks & associated equipment in those stations. Volunteer firies & support members at the transferred stations (in our area Point Cook, Melton and Caroline Springs) will still be based in and respond from those stations. What does it mean to you? We suspect (indeed hope) you won't even notice the difference! If you call 000 you will still get the same firies on the same trucks... only some will have different badges. There are still exactly the same number of firefighters, trucks and stations servicing our area, the greater Melbourne metro area and Victoria as a whole. You may have seen press articles about disruption and disagreement that is being caused by this change in the CFA and the broader emergency services. What we want you to know and remember is that irrespective of the wrangling higher up, your local firies - staff and volunteer alike - are 100% committed to providing outstanding service today, tomorrow and into the future, the same as we always have been.

22.01.2022 What a sad sight. This is New South Wales before and after the Black Summer bushfires. Satellites have revealed, for the first time, the scale of the destruct...ion and the entirety of the aftermath in one image. The NSW Government is using the photos to help prepare for the upcoming bushfire season. Read more: https://ab.co/2YQIpzZ

19.01.2022 Today we mark one year since the start of the devastating bushfires which deeply affected Victorian communities across the state. On 21 November, 2019 the first... ‘code red’ fire danger rating in almost a decade was declared in the Mallee and Northern Country, and dry lightning strikes in East Gippsland that started three fires which grew to a widespread bushfire disaster that burned for months. Today we reflect on the devastation and challenges that followed 21 November and the incredible support from all emergency services who came together to aid the communities impacted by the unprecedented fire season. 16.01.2022 This year the Good Friday appeal is celebrating 90 years of giving for the kids, and the CFA has been supporting the Appeal for 70 years! Our littlest member Rory was there to help the CFA launch this years CFA GFA fundraising. Bolinda-Monegeetta Brigade will once again be a part of the virtual tin shake for the Good Friday Appeal. If you would like to donate, the link for our virtual tin is in the comments below, or you can find it in the pinned post on our page.

14.01.2022 Well, it's 2020

14.01.2022 The Royal Australian Mint has today launched a commemorative $2 coin to honour those who battled the horrific 2019/20 summer bushfires, recognising the determin...ation and commitment of our firefighting communities across Australia. The coin will feature a blaze of orange in the centre, with female and male fireys either side of it, ready for action. $125,000 of the proceeds from the sale of the coins will go to fire and emergency service organisations across the country, including CFA.

11.01.2022 Bolinda-Monegeetta Brigade is helping raise much needed funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital in this years Good Friday Appeal with the official virtual tin shake. A number of babies and kids (and their families) in our local community have benefited from the amazing work this hospital does - it really is an exceptional facility we are lucky to have in Victoria. We understand it’s been a tough year for everyone but if you can spare any amount to donate, no matter how small, it all helps! All donations $2 and over are tax deductible, and you can donate thru our virtual tin shake page by clicking the link below. The more money that is raised, the more incredible work and sick kids they can help #GiveForTheKids #givethattheymaygrow #goodfridayappeal https://www.virtualtinshake.com.au//boli/virtual-tin-shake

10.01.2022 Such a heart breaking video. Sincerest condolences to the Fellows family.

09.01.2022 Today marks the start of Men's Health Week, an annual event to encourage Australian men to come together and openly discuss health issues, needs and outcomes. Both on and off the fire ground, good health is absolutely vital, and it's important to take stock of your health and think about where you're at. Here's five easy actions you can do each day to help boost your wellbeing

09.01.2022 Fifty years ago seat belts were made mandatory in our state. But since last year, 42 Victorians have died driving without one. It's a staggering number almost... hard to believe. We all know that seatbelts save lives, and we're all taught to buckle up and drive safe. But the message seems to have gotten lost. So from tomorrow night, this ad will hit TV screens 28 years after it was first shown. It's stark and it's graphic but it's clearly a reminder some of us need. Because whether it's 1992 or 2020 the danger remains the same, and the message hasn't changed: Seatbelts save lives.

08.01.2022 CFA has received a number of calls from community members regarding bonfires to mark the ‘Spark in the Dark’ event this evening. We appreciate those who are tha...nking our frontline workers, but urge you to keep fire safety front of mind. As today’s conditions are windy in some areas we are urging those who wish to participate to not do so by lighting bonfires or using fire pits. If you are choosing to light a candle, please ensure it is monitored by an adult and extinguished properly. You might like to mark the event by using a torch or outside light. Thank you and stay safe.

08.01.2022 Wow, in a week our ‘little community’ has raised $445 in our virtual tin shake for the Good Friday Appeal!! Big thank you to those who have supported us so far thru donations and sharing our tin. NOW - can we get past $500 for the kids!?!? Remember every donation no matter how small helps, donations are tax deductible, and you can also help by sharing the link for our virtual tin shake. The fundraiser will be running for a couple more weeks yet! https://www.virtualtinshake.com.au//bol/virtual-tin-shake

05.01.2022 Seeing a few posts asking about burning off at the moment. There's lots of information available on the CFA and local council websites which are always best to refer to. However below is a quick summary to answer a few questions: Always check whether your municipality is under fire restrictions, also known as the fire danger period or FDP. This will dictate what and whether you can burn anything.... If your municipality is in the FDP, burn offs can only be conducted under strict conditions and with specific permits. Please visit the CFA website for further information. Illegal, or unpermitted burn offs during the FDP are illegal and pose a significant threat to the community. If your municipality is not in the FDP, check the CFA website for requirements to burn off legally and safely. Some requirements include wind speed restrictions, weather and monitoring of the fire, visit the CFA burning off web page for all these requirements. These rules are in place all year round Check your local council bylaws regarding burning off. The Macedon Ranges, for example, has restrictions based on the size of your block, and what you plan to burn. Visit the Macedon Ranges web page to view all burning restrictions. These rules are in place all year round You must comply with BOTH the CFA and your local councils burn off requirements Notify ESTA of your intentions to burn, with an address, date, time, duration, approximate location and size of burn. ESTA can be contacted on 1800 668 511. Alternatively there is now an online form that can be completed if your burn is going to commence more than two hours later than you registering it. You can find this online form here https://firepermits.vic.gov.au/ Notify your neighbors of your intentions. This helps to reduce inconvenience to neighbors (for example they may decide to hang washing inside based on your notification!) prevents unnecessary worry for your neighbors. Currently the Macedon Ranges are predicted to commence the FDP on 14/12/20. This is subject to change based on weather. To check whether your municipality is in the declared FDP, or check for any changes, follow the below link. https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au//restrictions-during-the-fire-d

04.01.2022 Little Rory is the newest ‘member’ of Bolinda-Monegeetta brigade! After an early arrival and a couple of hurdles she is doing well and supporting the CFA’s involvement with the RCH Good Friday Appeal.

04.01.2022 Let's get donating

03.01.2022 In an emergency, you may not have time to think about what to take with you. What would you bring if you had just 10 minutes to get out of your house?

03.01.2022 As we start to tentatively venture out of lockdown how many of us used the opportunity to make improvements to our property? Did any of us consider fire prevention in part of their improvements? With the reopening of hardware and garden places there are still lots of things you can do before this fire season, for the season coming and the ones ahead. The CFA has an excellent guide on what you can do when it comes to landscaping for bushfires via this link. Check it out and ha...ppy gardening! https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/landscaping

02.01.2022 Spotted again. Bolinda-Monegeetta firefighter and secretary Kylie getting the word out about how vital blood donations are. We're all glad you're feeling so much better after your transfusions Kylie!

02.01.2022 It appears swooping season is upon us. The plovers and magpies are starting to come out in force. But did you know you can make friends with your local magpies, and once they know you're friendly they won't swoop you. Talking nicely, singing, and feeding them (small amounts, inconsistently so they don't rely on you) are all great ways to start to build a friendship with them. But best wait until after swooping season if you're just starting your relationship building. Im not sure how masks come into play with them recognising us! At least the ones in the backyard wont have to worry about it. Here's some more interesting facts about these beautiful and scary birds. https://www.abc.net.au//magies-ten-things-you-didn/9245780

02.01.2022 Do your horses live on your property? Did you know that by law in Victoria, you have to have a Property Identification Code (PIC) if your property houses horses and other livestock? Having a PIC will aid not only emergency services, but your animals in the event of an emergency. The PIC is free, and is used to identify properties with livestock and horses that may need assistance, as emergency services have access to an area affected by fire, often before residents are allowe...d back in. Considering that, I can't think of any reason to not have one! For more relevant information on PIC's, please visit the Agriculture Victoria website: https://agriculture.vic.gov.au//property-identification-co Photo credit to the very talented Courtney Walker from the CFA Social Media Team

01.01.2022 Did you know that only 1 in 10 Victorian households have smoke alarms in recommended locations? In the last 10 years, 22 people across regional Victoria have di...ed due to fires in their bedrooms. Install interconnected smoke alarms in every bedroom and living area in your home. It could save your life.
