23.01.2022 Today Vacy Brigade along with Paterson Rural Fire Brigade Gresford Rural Fire Brigade Bolwarra-Largs Rural Fire Brigade Lochinvar Rural Fire Brigade NSW RFS - E...ast Maitland Brigade and Flat Tops Rural fire Brigade carried out the first part of a hazard reduction burn on Mt George (Eaglereach). We burnt the upper part of the face of the escarpment up to the cabins which were protected during the exercise. Next Wednesday 9/09/2020 we will be extending the burn on the lower part of the escarpment. We had the weather on our side and today's burn was a success. Karla Bruce

23.01.2022 With winter frosts causing grassland fuels to cure, we are beginning to see grass fires take hold and threaten homes and other assets. This fire near Glen Innes... burnt around 50ha on Sunday with firefighters undertaking property protection at a number of assets. It is important to have a cleared and maintained line of at least 20 metres around your assets. If you are undertaking pile burning or having a fire pit, make sure you remain with the fire until it is out, and you have enough water to extinguish it, should it escape.

20.01.2022 Our firefighters couldn’t do what they do without the support of family and loved ones. This past season, many of you were able to have that close support right by your side. Thank you and happy Mother’s Day to all.

19.01.2022 A huge shout out to all our amazing fathers out there who do such an amazing job! Happy Father's Day! #nswrfs

18.01.2022 Avoid a dryer fire, follow these three simple rules when using your dryer: Clean your lint filter before or after each use. Ensure there is adequate airflow around your dryer. Don’t leave the dryer operating when you’re not home.

18.01.2022 Prepare for fire season by contacting your children’s daycare and school to find out their plan in the event of a bush fire.

17.01.2022 The Brigade was able to have its first general meeting last night following to reduction of the COVID 19 restrictions. To ensure social distancing was maintained we had to move the trucks out and use the larger room.

17.01.2022 It’s National Volunteer Week and we’d like to say thank to all of our volunteers across the state for the valuable contribution they make to the NSW RFS, and to... their communities. Without their dedication and commitment, the devastation and losses across the past fire season could have been far greater. Thank you for changing communities and changing lives. See more

16.01.2022 Bolwarra Largs Brigade held their general meeting last night. Following the 2019-2020 bushfires the Premier of NSW awarded a Bushfire Emergency Citation to recognise the outstanding contribution of volunteers. The Citations were presented by NSW RFS District Manager Superintendent Martin Siemsen. Martin also presented Long Service Medals to Brigade Volunteers for their dedicated service to the RFS. Congratulations to everyone and thanks for your time and effort.

16.01.2022 The rain is welcome but it brings another risk. As grass dries out, the risk of dangerous grass fires increases. Grass fires are dangerous - they start easily and spread quickly. Check www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/grassfires for tips on getting ready this season. #NSWRFS

15.01.2022 A number of hazard reduction burns are programmed for this weekend. This includes burns in the Sydney, Central Coast and Hunter areas. Smoke is likely to settle over a broad area. Check for burns near you. https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-informati/hazard-reductions

15.01.2022 The Bushfire & Natural Hazards CRC, commissioned by the NSW RFS, is undertaking research into people’s experiences of the 2019-20 bush fires in NSW. They are in...terested in hearing a range of stories and views from people who were directly and indirectly affected by the fires, including residents and tourists from all parts of NSW. Interviews will take place via telephone or video conferencing. The results of the study will be used to inform strategies to improve community bush fire safety in NSW. More information around participation is available on the NSW RFS website at https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//research-into-the-2019-2020-bu

14.01.2022 As we approach the winter months, where there is an increase in the number of fires starting in the home, please remember to stay safe at home. Today we saw a d...emonstration by Fire and Rescue NSW of just how fast a fire can take hold in the home. For information on how to make your Home Fire Escape Plan, visit www.fire.nsw.gov.au/winter

13.01.2022 Hot, dry and windy weather is increasing the fire danger in parts of NSW tomorrow. A total fire ban will be in force on Monday 23 November for the Far North Coast and North Western Fire areas. Review your bush fire survival plan and know what you will do if threatened by fire.

11.01.2022 FACT: There will never be as many fire trucks as there are houses. Do not depend on a fire truck being available at your home. But if you and your home are well... prepared, you stand a better chance of surviving a bush fire. There are simple things you can do around your home to prepare it for a bush fire, like keeping the grass low and having a cleared area around your home. Learn more and get ready at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/plan-and-prepare #getreadyweekend #nswrfs

11.01.2022 Many Australians like Jim learned some terrifying lessons in the last bush fire season.

01.01.2022 From fires to floods! The NSW South Coast has certainly been hit hard this year, with areas affected by fires now being hit by floods and storm damage. There ha...s also been a number of large trees in previously fire affected areas falling across major roadways. Take care when travelling through these areas. In some good news, conditions are expected to ease from this afternoon. If you need assistance for flooding or storm damage, contact the NSW SES on 132 500. #nswrfs Shoalhaven Heads Rural Fire Brigade
